Greetings Captains,
Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.
Without further ado, let’s proceed with Week 15!
Accomplishments
There’s a lot of similar things to last few weeks, but nonetheless, here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:
1. Played the German BB line in Tiers 5-6
2. Played the French and Italian lines, unlocking the Tier 5 BB in the French line and the Tier 4 BB in the Italian line
Focus Points of the Week
Same refrain from previous weeks: my focus points for this week are largely the same, as I still want to put a lot of time into my play in lower to mid tiers before I move on to tackling higher tier play:
1. Continued exploration of the French and Italian lines, expanding to more BBs in both lines.
2. Development of strategy and skills in low to mid tiers.
3. Playing more strategically - Reacting to the shifting momentum of matches setting not only myself up for success, but my team as well. Mid-Tier Play - German BBs Ships: Bayern
When it came to playing the German BBs this week, I tried to put as much focus as I can on one particular topic: playing strategically. I wanted to make a more concerted effort to read the map, my positioning and my enemies with the knowledge that I have picked up in the game thus far. With that in mind, I tried to use this knowledge to play and think in more of a team mindset instead of an individual mindset. This was…difficult. I often found that the match will shift differently than I had thought in my head in terms of focus and positioning. Additionally, I still have so much to learn in respect to other ships. The easy answer to that is to play as many ships as I can to get a more hands-on feel for them, but that is easier said than done for sure. Nevertheless, if I want to get to a higher level of play, I will certainly need to put the time in.
Low-to-Mid-Tier Play - French and Italian BBs Ships: Courbet, Bretagne, D. Alighieri
This week, I continued my foray into French BBs, as well as began my journey with Italian BBs as well. I continue to be a fan of the French line, though from my understanding I thought the French BBs would have less floaty shells than I imagined. Perhaps the floatiness improves as the line continues? Nonetheless, I was not seeing massive problems with accuracy. I achieved a few key citadels and dev strikes this week that left me feeling VERY satisfied. The speed on this line feels good too, though I cannot take nearly the kind of beating that I can in a German BB. The same goes for the Italian BB line, which I was finally able to get into this week. They also feel a little light in the survivability department, though I definitely feel as though SAP works really well for my play style. They tend to carve through cruisers and BBs that get in my way, which is definitely a plus. I do definitely get more of a “brawler” feel with the Italian line, though I am not sure if that is intentional or just how I have been playing them.
