Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

Without further ado, let’s proceed with Week 14!

Accomplishments
There’s a lot of similar things to last week, but nonetheless, here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:

1. Played the German BB line in Tiers 5-6
2. Played the French and Italian lines through Tier 4
3. “Completed” the Atlantico Dockyard!

Focus Points of the Week
Same refrain from last week: my focus points for this week are largely the same as they were last week, as I still want to put a lot of time into my play in lower to mid tiers before I move on to tackling higher tier play:

1. Continued exploration of lines that I am not familiar with, namely French and Italian (the idea is to mainly focus on Cruisers and BBs for now). This week I moved more into BBs in the French line, while staying in Cruisers (for now) in the Italian line.
2. Development of strategy and skills in mid tiers (mainly Tiers 5 and 6 and mainly in German BBs, but branched into it in the Italian/French lines with Tier 4 Cruisers and BBs).
3. Better positioning as a whole - I wanted to be a bit more analytic with my positioning considering I would occasionally get torped to death by DDs.

Dockyard - Atlantico

This week I finally obtained enough doubloons to finish out the Atlantico Dockyard! I haven’t gotten a chance to take her out yet, but I have been very excited about this ship since I first heard about her. I like the idea of playing her sort of mid-range: not afraid to do some sniping (AP only, of course) but if it comes to it, I can get close and unleash those secondaries. Full disclosure here: I don’t think I did any of these phases via mission, so it’s a bit exaggerative to say this was an “accomplishment” but I did think it was worth mentioning, lol. Mid-Tier Play - German BBs Ships: Konig, Bayern

Another week, another few rounds with these mid-tier German BBs. I focused a lot more on my survivability this week as opposed to the previous week, but not in the same way I have in the past. Previously, it would be all about staying alive, even if it meant my impact on the game as a whole was not as large as it could have been. This week, I took some advice from the previous week and tried to position myself more strategically in relation to DDs and their capabilities at those tiers. I was still punished for pushing the boundaries sometimes, but I did find that I have the capability of “staying in the fray.” The biggest challenge will be learning the capabilities of DDs individually, which I think will come easier when I do a deep dive into DDs.

Low-to-Mid-Tier Play - French and Italian Cruisers/BBs Ships: Taranto, Turenne, Giussano, Courbet

Similar to last week, I spent a long time in these lower/mid tiers! I took my first large bite into French BBs, and I am liking them well enough so far (though I think less so than the German BBs). I really like the accuracy on the guns and the fact that they seem a bit speedier overall. I am VERY interested to see how this flavor translates as I work my way up the line even further. For Italian Cruisers, I am still having a good time with SAP! I do find it interesting that unlike any other line I have played so far, the BB line does not start at Tier 3. Don’t really know if there’s anything significant to discuss there, but just something I noticed. My cruiser play as a whole still needs work, I would say. As designed, I am being punished more often for overextending, but I find some of the strategies I use for BB survivability don’t translate to Cruiser play. I need to study up some more and get familiar with other strategies, but I am very open to suggestions!

I think that about covers it this week! I want to remind everyone that the New Player Captain’s Log is also designed to be a place for new players to reply with their experiences or seek advice as well, so feel free to join in on the conversation below!

See you next week for some more New Player musings. Fair winds and following seas!

Yeah! And since I am not a competitive player or anything, Steel is a pretty hard resource to come by, so this made sense to me!
