No offense, but this site is junk. The voting system is so easily abused it isn't even funny.

Didn't know that. I have been directed here by several servers I have played on. Is there an answer to the OP that doesn't involve a junk site?
Not really. I know a couple of people that have talked about starting one, but it's never really gone anywhere.

I mean look at the Steam review system. How often are titles review bombed? It's so bad Steam has built an AI algorithm to automatically clean up floods of overly negative/positive reviews, and even with that it's still happening.

Calling it junk but not explaining why? It's easily abused? How exactly? It requires me to login with steam and prohibits duplicates on the same server?
All it requires is Steam login. You can make a bunch of accounts, log in, then vote for whatever server. The voting system is commonly abused in this way to push servers to the top of the listing for more visibility. I've tested it with their Empyrion site. Took me a week to take a dead server from the bottom up to the top ten. I was able to hold it in the top twelve for almost a month with little effort. Even the site author admits the system is broken in this way, but doesn't have any ideas on preventing it.

So if you're thinking a server with a lot of votes means it's good, you're wrong. I mean it's possible that they didn't cheat the system. And it's equally possible they did. As a result the whole system is meaningless and void.

Then it’s on us, the moderators, to arbitrate the he said/she said disputes. If not, we’d just have uncorroborated accusations flying around, and the attitude of the forum would be quite toxic.

What to do? I don’t know... there are websites like Yelp that have perhaps figured out online reviews as well as anyone has. Maybe they need a section for game servers, or maybe some enterprising user can start such a website, preferably for all kinds of servers.

Personally I think if server owners are allowed to advertise here, then users should be allowed to comment on them here, without the fear of being banned.

Well again, without a system of accountability, which someone has to implement and maintain, that’d be carte blanche to slander (technically libel) all the servers and players you want. And the moderators are volunteers, so... not it! 😛
