It looks like a broken revolver which was rebuilt with pipes and ♥♥♥♥. Totally fits the theme for me.

The second pic looks like a broken revolver, The first looks more like a repurposed normal revolver.

But, that's kindof the point? We've always had this gap/disparity. Stone axe to fire axe, Stone shovel to iron/steel shovel. Primitive bow to compound bow. There's some things that look like it was cobbled together from junk(second pic) that represent the 'Primitive tier', and some things that look like actual weaponry that fit the Iron or Steel tiers.

Not everything is meant to look like a heap of garbage made functional (primitive tier.)
and not everything is meant to look like a precision manufactured set piece (iron/steel tier.)
