Could be they are scared of criticism or it could be due to other reasons. Given the fact that you are able to post an all caps title criticizing them for doing it right here in the discussion forum is a pretty good sign that they aren't scared of the criticism. Regardless of comments being turned off in announcements, anyone can still comment on them in a critical manner as we've seen with this one as well as with the Labor of Love announcement.

Even on their own official forum when they announce a new update or post patchnotes those threads are locked because they are just....announcements.

It's obvious that some people are appalled by such a policy which is ironic since they still seem to find public places to give voice to their outrage-- all in caps even.

Not too surprising but hey it's what they're allowed to do. Much like working on this game for 120 months in EA.
Do note that the parent post of that thread, happens to be the first thread on the subject. So they all get merged into the thread that already existed. It isn't about cherry-picking the post title.
