[2021] AK vs TAR. What's the point in the TAR?

Yes; The TAR is compatible with a few other mods that the AK isn't. It also fires single shot(or was it 3 round burst?), iirc, instead of full auto like the AK. Overall, it is much more accurate, and much easier to control with precision.

Unlike most other weapons types, Machine guns specifically are kindof built such that you use both the Tier 2 and Tier 3 variants. The TAR is your precision shooting weapon- But your M60 is your 'mow everything down with lead death, ammo is no issue.' gun. But trying to use the M60 for precision is gonna give you a bad time. So, you use the TAR for precision, and M60 for lead death upon hard targets or overwhelming odds.

TAR is up to 3 round burst (if you keep M1 pressed), but you can do 1 or 2 bullet at a time as well. I believe you can also put that mod that allows you to fire as an automatic weapon, so you aren't limited at 3 round burst max at a time ?

Correct. You can actually also put the single shot mod on an AK, I think- But the accuracy of the TAR is still superior. Might also have a higher range falloff on the damage.
