[2021] Zombies randomly speed up?

Solo I can handle a group of 10+, but NOT when they sprint like its the damn blood moon. Is there a set pattern for when this happens, or am I missing something?

There is a "rage mode" where they will randomly start running at you after taking damage. Aside from that, there is no vanilla mechanic that would cause an entire group to start sprinting.
