Candles and torches make Heat/Activity constantly. Electric lights don't, though the generator powering it May(Solar+Battery for example makes no activity)- You can run a TON of electric lights off one generator. The Lantern is an item added long after the electrical system, and it has not yet been balanced into or against the preceeding systems much. As to a light stuck to your head? Sure. But, There's something a bit extra about actually having a lit room, instead of perpetually going around with a flashlight that makes a place feel like home.

And in any cast, Spotlights put any other lightsource to shame- Even if you're not into decoration, Spotlight wins the lighting game.

Crafting, Because while you're running around with Q1 and Q2 tools praying for a Q6 so you don't have to craft, I've had Q5 for the past week.

By crafting, I can guarantee my access to a Q1-Q5 weapon or tool of my choice with no need to rely on RNG which can, and very frequently does, screw you over by just never dropping the thing you want.

Yes, Q6 is indeed 'better' than Q5; But that's usually only if you have the extra mod to shove into the extra mod slot, and even then, it's a marginal increase at best- Q6 is an improvement, but, an improvement of 5% maybe is not worth scrounging around with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ items until you can get one.

as for crafting, surely crafting in a survival crafting game should equal best ?
I mean, you're talking about 'requires resources and attracts zombies' versus 'Limitless power at no additional cost, and doesn't attract zombies'. So yeah, The latter is expensive to set up. Everyone sees it differently- To you it's not worth, To me it is.

As to crafting, How pray tell would you, a lay man, fabricate a tool with a backyard forge and shoddy hand built workbench that beats AI driven machine precision that can plane and shape surfaces to within a micrometer and can do so with an error margin of +/- 5% of that micrometer? And that's not to mention the quality of raw material which can vary widely, but for metals is largely related to the smelting and forging process for which a proper smelting setup would produce dramatically better results. (This is a long winded way of saying "How can you make something better than what was machine crafted in the pre-apocalypse?")

Simply put: Man is great at adapting; But he is imperfect. We can make tools that can create something near to perfection- But to do the same with our own two hands is a much taller task.

Further, IF crafting is the best, Why then would you ever loot? You can just craft it better. There's a balance to be had here, and that balance currently is guaranteed access vs RNG hell.
