All electrical objects can only receive ONE incoming line, but can send out multiple outgoing lines. Attempting to wire two disparrate things to the same object will result in the second overwriting the first connection.

You always want to wire outwards from the generator, no doubling back.

That said, Generators iirc cannot be wired together at all; You can't wire a solar to a solar, for example; and due to the one incoming line thing, you cannot wire multiple generators to the same battery bank either.

Similarly, you cannot wire multiple power sources into the same electrical grid because again, one input.

And no...It's not a bug. It also doesn't just 'suck'; It's just a vastly inferior system of electrical transmission than you experience in your daily life. There's no transformers, no alternating current, no safeties, none of the conveniences you're used to; Nor is it dumbed down into a super simplified 'just spam wire everything to eachother so everything works' kind of system that other games, as you mantioned, have.

Whether it's a good or bad thing, it is what it is.
