Exactly. If they at least made the dirt blocks really cheap then you could replace them but last I looked they are really expensive. I'm not grinding to fix the ground every day. I simply stopped going underground all together unless I'm mining and then I just do what I got to do and get out of there before zombies start tearing up the map.

You may have some ingrained knowledge from older builds there. If I’m not creating screamers and it’s not horde night, it’s remarkably quiet around my base, underground or otherwise. The threats are just few and far between. Even when I’m not really trying to be quiet, I don’t have to deal with zombies at my base on a nightly basis.

Plus, zombies should only pick at the dirt in unpredictable places if the player has given no thought to how the zombies will try to reach them underground. It seems like some still think of the underground as this place where you just put so much distance and material between you and the zombies that you can forget about them and how they move. But build an intended path for them, the way above ground builders typically do, and your terrain should stay as pristine as anyone’s.

Lastly, dirt blocks are dirt cheap. They just have a long craft time because that’s how clay (soil) is.
