This is the first time I hear something like this and I have been modding games for many years. There's a few things I'd like to say to this..
Firstly I'd like to address the "stolen" part which goes with the "copied" part. Most mods are stolen or copied. One or two geniuses find out how to do something and it spreads, people learn from it and use it with their own ideas and the creator gets some fame. That's how most modding works because apart from a small hand full of very talented individuals who actually create content, the rest of us mostly copy, learn and tweak to our liking. It is common practice and considered polite to give credit to the original creator or even ask permission if required by said creator.
There are many cases of people straight up copying 1 to 1 and just putting their names on whatever mod they copied but this happens everywhere and is frowned upon so you wont earn much credit for that, but this happens everywhere.
As for the "broken" part, you can easily see by the comments and votes what is broken on Nexus. I have never had issues with mods on Nexus but you gotta pay a bit of attention. In many cases people simply lose interest in the game or the mod and stop updating them so you have to pay attention to the date of release and know which version of the game you are working with.
This comment about Nexus was just very vague and I have always had a pretty good experience getting my mods from them so I'm curious as to what leads you to the conclusion that this is a bad site. There very well could be some controversy I missed because I am not that deeply involved in the modding community but my overall experience has been quite positive when dealing with Nexus.
Nexus in general isn't a bad site. However for games that already have a primary source, Nexus should never be the first place you look. In regards to 7 Days it's one of the last places you should look.
Mods started out on the official forum. Then later people started putting them on the Nexus. Mostly the Nexus was only used for file hosting though.
Unless the Nexus is the primary source for mods for a game, like it was for the Elder Scrolls series, it should never be your first choice. Always check the original source platform for a game before you to looking on the Nexus. Vortex doesn't even properly support the client, and likely never will until after TFP finalizes the modding platform. At that point the primary source will be the Steam Workshop.
I mean, would you go looking for Ark or Conan mods on Nexus?
For for 7 Days, your mod sources are as follows.
-
Official Modding Forum[community.7daystodie.com]
-
Community-driven Mod Site[7daystodiemods.com]
-
Community-driven Mod Launcher[7d2dmodlauncher.org]
- Then maybe Nexus, but everything to find on the Nexus already exists at the first three locations 98% on the time because that's where they originated.
