8gb minimum is truth; You can play a 4k world on 8gb, if you don't have a bunch of bloatware or other programs open on your computer. You can also, barely, play Navezgane, iirc.

Minimum means exactly that, The lowest of the low, the bare minimum specs required to play the game at all. That does not mean the minimum will let you play an 8k map with textures over 1/8th and a resolution above 640x400.

Also, as a side note, Amount of data loaded into ram != performance of the game. If anything, more data loaded into ram at one time is more data that doesn't need to be shifted around constantly and actually would improve performance, not worsen it. A lot of ram being used is not the same as a memory leak bogging down a game.

Fallout 4 is a finished game that released over 5 years ago. It's also a 2D game. It is most definitely not a fully 3D Voxel game with a fully destructible 3D terrain, structural integrity calculations on every block, and a complex AI that has to re-calculate pathing based on an ever-changing landscape.

I mean you're basically comparing a 2005 Honda Fit against a 2022 CR-V.

8GB RAM is the minimum that is playable. It works quite well, and I've run tests to show the difference between most users bloated systems, and an optimized system. I documented it quite thruroughly.

..Possibly a dumb question, But, Do you have your pagefile enabled? And if so, how large do you have it set for? 'Cause it sounds like you either don't, or you have a very small paging file.. You should be able to make a 4k map without crashing.

nah man, i dont have pagefile enabled. Using SSD for that is obviously dumb and my HDD is too slow and old, using it just to store videos at this point.
Having a pagefile on an SSD, especially newer models, won't make much of a difference in the lifespan of your SSD. It's much more beneficial to the end user to have a pagefile that is at least equal to the size of your ram.

And we're talking in the ballpark of "Your SSD has somewhere in the ballpark of 800 Terabytes of rewrite capacity; Having and utilizing a pagefile might cost you 1 or 2 in the long run. Maybe.".

Strongly recommend enabling your pagefile to a minimum of 8gb.

The game is crashing for you on generation because you have no pagefile- So in actuality you're limiting the game to closer to 5~gb of ram, as windows will refuse to give up it's own allocated ram to a game; and when the game calls for more ram than is available it results in an out of memory exception and a crash.
