[2020] How do you setup the outer walls of your base?

A layer or two of spikes around the outer wall of your base is a good investment. In particular, it’s enough to kill the odd screamer that comes to investigate, without you having to step outside and risk detection to kill it. Depending on your activity level, you may only need to make repairs once a week or less.

If a wandering horde comes through and becomes aggravated enough to pursue you, they shouldn’t spread out along the walls indiscriminately. For better or worse, they should cluster around the weakest point. So for defense against wandering hordes, you can plan for where that is and concentrate defenses on that spot, and save yourself the effort of placing spikes all over the place.
