[2023] Why add so many building pieces when you can't use most of them

It´s actually a limit by the unity engine. You can only have so many different blocks and/ or items, not quite sure if those are correlated. And if they wanna leave room for modders to add stuff they have to limit us in the vanilla game. Understandable and welcome because i want mods to be able to add stuff, but also frustrating at the same time.

Going close to the limit of the engine also causes inventory lag aka your inventory taking forever to open.

The block limit still exists, but it's much larger than it used to be. Currently the issue is the number of recipes for crafting things. The more you have, the more it will lag out the inventory window when you open it, or when opening workstations.

At one point there was a hard limit on something like 4028 blocks, but I think it's closer to 30k now. It's been a bit since I was modding though, so my numbers may be a tad off. Especially since the way blocks are handled has changed a bit in a21 compared to previous versions.
