Previous posts with quotes got all screwed up so I'm going to re-post them here.

OMG I LOVE games that aren't finished... But I'm SO MUCH more wary of them...

Have you not been burnt by a game that *ever* promised all you wanted in a game - from past or even present? No? Perhaps? There's BILLIONS of dollars worth - perhaps not that much, perhaps it's just millions...

Have you "engaged" in No Mans Sky" & (dare I say) suffered it's updates!?

And you can opt into any alpha version going as far back as 8.8 and play your old saved games anytime anyway if a new updates drops - BUT who would ever... There's no fun there.

You can play the new Alpha builds when they drop, but they require a wipe as new things are added, like poi's/buildings..... do you understand? if you have an old map with everything spawned in, how tf can you play the new buildings??????????????????????????? you cant..........
Along with them adding removing items and if still in game (from old versions) will causes errors as they are not in game..... many things like that.

If you're not happy with "constant wipes" like every year or so...., there is literally an option when you right click the game to play older versions that your saved game in on...

So you have literally what you asked for... you dont want to keep wiping, then dont update the game..

There is no need to restart every Alpha.

For many years now, including every Alpha that I've played, the devs have made the previous Alphas available to re-download at any time in the game's Steam settings (instructions are in the pinned FAQ). You can set your game to download Alpha XYZ, and stay on that Alpha indefinitely no matter what happens in the future. If you are happy with Alpha XYZ then you can completely tune out that the game is still in development, if that's what you want. They've been doing it for so long that there's no particular reason to think this practice won't continue.

If on the other hand you think "there's no fun there," then... good news! The developers agree with you. That's why they kept working on the game, instead of stopping at Alpha XYZ. If you stop to think about it for a bit, it wouldn't be feasible to make worlds made in the old Alphas compatible with newer versions. You would have chests full of sharpened sticks and adobe ramp blocks and tungsten ingots and a zillion other items that do not exist and don't have a one-to-one analogue anymore. They'd have to bring back old ugly non- performant models and textures and other assets, and/or spend countless man hours figuring out how to convert the old stuff into the current stuff in a way that doesn't break the game, just so you could stay on your outdated game world. Or they could just keep the old build available. It's a no brainer.

It's like if Ford started with a 3-wheeled car, and later designed a 4-wheeled car that was more stable (and offered it free of charge to existing owners). And you're used to the 3-wheeled car, but you want something more stable. You don't ask Ford to make your 3-wheeled car more stable. You either stick with the 3-wheeler you have (because you have it set up the way you like or whatever)... or you upgrade to the new 4-wheeled design.

Again, if your position is that you find the old game "no fun," then one would expect you would be receptive to the devs updating it.
