Ok, I understand. There was a significant change of Reddit's design a few years back, and a lot of people who were on Reddit long before that change don't like it, so the option, to use the old design is still available. I find the old one a lot cleaner and easier to navigate, that's why I'm using it.

To give just one example: New Reddit has infinite scrolling. If you scroll down, click on a thread, consume the content, and then return to the page you were scrolling on via the back-button, you don't get back to where you clicked the link, but to the top of the page.
That must be a browser issue. Whenever I do that it opens the content in a pop-up overlay, and my position on the main page does not change at all.
