Hey everyone,

With the release of Patch 2 today and the holidays on the horizon, we wanted to give you an update on what’s been done so far and where we’re going in the new year.

Over the past few weeks and continuing on into Patch 2, we’ve been steadily increasing the rewards and tuning the content included in 'Beyond the Veil'.
Today we’ve added Player Anonymity to conceal the identity of players you encounter in the Mists, we’ve changed the relationship of Mists Rarity and Tier to guarantee that enchanted Mists have an increasingly higher chance to lead to higher Tier zones, and further increased the silver and loot bonuses of the Mists to match that of the Open World.

We’ve also reworked travel to and from Brecilien so that players no longer feel trapped after traveling to the city.
Unstable Roads are now easier to find in The Mists, and when they are found they guarantee a connection to the Open World. This means you’re more likely to find your way home - whether that home is in the Outlands or on the Royal Continent.
Fast Travel with luggage is now also an option if instantaneous travel is preferred.
While these changes necessitated that Brecilien became a bit more difficult to find from the deep Outlands to preserve the integrity of travel, everyone will now have more options when traveling away from the city.

We’ve also begun increasing our focus on the Roads of Avalon.
Patch 2 significantly increases Raid zone connectivity so that fights are more common, and we’ve also upgraded one third of the chest spawns in the Roads from Veteran to Elite which increases both their difficulty and their rewards.
There are a number of changes to mob behavior and balance also included in Patch 2, which were necessary to support the increased availability of these mobs.
You’ll also see that the high reward bonuses of persistent randomized dungeons within the Roads of Avalon have returned to their old values, offering higher rewards to everyone for participating in these dungeons.

You can read the overview of Patch 2 here and the full list of changes here.
We’ll continue to evaluate all of these changes and improve upon them as necessary, as we’re committed to making both The Mists and the Roads of Avalon the best gameplay experiences they can be.

Coming in 2023

Patch 3 will have an even greater focus on the Roads of Avalon as we further improve on this feature to meet the needs of all the different audiences participating in this content.
While our original intention was to drive the Roads of Avalon more toward a group focus, studying how the Roads have been played both before and after the update has led us to question this intention.
Our new focus will be to improve upon the Roads of Avalon universally in order to improve the experience for all ranges of group sizes (including solo players).
The first focus of Patch 3 will be to redistribute the content found within the Roads so that all players’ needs are met.

This will include:
  • Raid zones still exist with the higher connectivity introduced in Patch 2 and will continue to be found from Roads Hideout regions
  • The larger camps found in the majority of Roads regions will primarily be aimed at medium to large groups, though a small minority of these will see a return to green chests (limited to only the 4x green chest camps, which will again spawn 4x green chests)
  • The small camps will be dedicated to solo players and small groups, though when we say “solo” we do so with the caveat that Roads solo play is generally more difficult than in other areas of Albion and we intend on preserving that
  • Camps will fully spawn when a chest appears
    • When a chest upgrades, the entire camp will upgrade with it
  • Camps will again be marked with the green/blue/gold chests to help players navigate the content targeted at their group size

Since camps will be further subdivided, we will be increasing the frequency of the camps to compensate for this division so that no content is lost for any specific audience.
We’ll also be reviewing the rewards, with the intent of increasing them to a level that is appropriate for the risk involved.

Furthermore, we'll be finishing our work on the environmental changes to the Roads, so in Patch 3 you can look forward to a brand new look in addition to all the content changes we have in store for early 2023.
Though the poll we recently ran on these changes has now closed, you can see some (work in progress!) previews here.

We'll continue watching how things progress over the holidays and look forward to your feedback. We're also excited to share more changes we have in store for these features...along with other announcements...in the new year!

Until then, happy holidays!
