Hello.
A couple of days ago I was playing without a problem.
Now, though, I've been encountering this error: "Failed to create the Direct3D device. Error code: 1205"

So far have done:

  • full uninstall and reinstall (including of Ubisoft Connect)
  • verified the files,
  • restarts
  • checked that everything's up to date with my laptop.

Managed to get it working earlier today, but then the laptop went on standby while I had to step away, the game froze and I had to close it from the task manager - and now the issues back.

Any guidance and suggestions on how to resolve this would be gratefully appreciated - especially if it's the sort of thing that comes and goes!

Tech specs if it seems relevant:
Dell Inspiron 5502
Windows 10
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7
RAM: 8 GB
NVIDIA GeForce MX330 / Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics)
Using an external hard drive. Game's run on the hard drive without issue in the past so don't think that's the issue or that hardware's the problem.

Hey TimelessLady,

I'm afraid the error is related to your laptop not fulfilling the minimum requirements of Anno 1800. The Geforce MX330 is a potent laptop graphics card, but not suited for more demanding video games. We can't guarantee the game will run on such hardware. Your described errors (DirectX and Direct3D device)
You can try checking if newer graphics card drivers are available for your card, as well as lowering the ingame graphics settings and see if this helps.
We usually also recommend to install and run games from internal hard drives since the data processing speed is faster than when using an external drive via USB.

Hey @Imposter420 and welcome to the Ubisoft Discussions!

I understand your frustration regarding this issue. As previously indicated by @Ubi-Thorlof, since the GeForce MX330 is not officially supported by Anno 1800. Although the game was able to run on your PC before, we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case, given the updates that this game receives regularly.
That being said, there are a few things you can try to resolve this issue. First, I'd advise reinstalling your graphics drivers. If that doesn't work, you can also try to reinstall the DirectX runtime files, as shown here: (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35).
