Hi everyone,

My game won't launch from Uplay, Epic Games Laucher or by manually executing the .exe
The screen turns black and then it crashes and I end up on desktop
After buying the game after its launch I played for a bit, but it got out of my sight. So I do not know when the issue initially arose.

After searching the web and this forum I tried the following (not necessarily in order):
- reinstalling the game
- reinstalling Uplay
- fresh installation of graphic card driver
- tunred on execution as administrator for Anno and Uplay .exe
- verified files (several times)
- turn on offline mode for Uplay
- reinstalled DirectX and VC 2015 redist
- disabled firewall

msinfo and dxdiag were ok at first glance, but I can post additional info if needed

Hey! Sorry to read you're facing this issue, we will do our best to help.

I am uncertain if those errors are the cause of your issue, I will keep that in mind going forward.

We have noticed a larger increase of crashes with Windows 7, and strangely enough it was due to a conflict with our overlay.

Please try disabling it and see if that helps -

- Open Ubisoft Connect
- Click on the menu button at the top-left corner
- Settings
- Uncheck "Enable in-game overlay for supported games"

I can see you have had quite a large conversation with a support agent; they will review your system files in detail and offer you some suggestions.

In the meantime, I've had a quick look for you, and here are some further suggestions -

- Install Windows Updates
- Run System File Checker (SFC): https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/929833/

I noticed a lot of Windows-related crashes, so hopefully that will solve it!

You also have a lot of applications installed, so I'd like to suggest disabling background applications to see if that helps: https://support.ubisoft.com/en-GB/faqs/000025721/

I did what you suggested. Also I installed some optional Windows Updates, updated my firewall and tidyed up my system in general.
Luck me: the game is working now! But I don't know what fixed it in the end ...
I think it's only natural for many of us to hop on the PC and use it for our work & games, but the thought of maintenance doesn't come along naturally

That is great news! We won't know for sure what resolved it but the main thing is, you can get back to playing.
