Hey everyone,

I have a bit of an issue when playing both Multi and Single player games. Within minutes of starting the session the game crashes giving me a DirectX error. I tried both DX11 and DX12, fullscreen, windowed, windowed full screen. Nothing seems to work.

I've reinstalled the game, I've updated the graphics drivers, basically everything short of reinstalling windows. I've also browsed the internet for other possible fixes, down the rabbit hole of the pagefile and so on.

I was eagerly awaiting season 3, bought it, and had 0 luck trying to actually play it. I'm aware that I'm not the only one with the issue, however it being fixed in the next update is not really the answer I'm looking for. The reason is that it worked previously, then it suddenly started doing this, so I'm guessing the issue is most likely on my end, but I have no idea what else to try.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version 10.0.19041 Build 19041
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
16 GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3504 Mhz

Thanks!

Hey phuzzeenuts, thanks for getting in touch and I am sorry to hear about the issue you've been dealing with.

Taking into account that you've already tried reinstalling your DirectX, I would just like to also ask you to try the following, as this issue has been identified with DirectX12 in particular:

- To run the game on DirectX11 you just have to delete the config file - you can find that in " %userprofile%\Documents\Anno 1800\config\engine.ini ". Alternatively, you can also edit the Line ("Device Type": "DX11",) to ("Device Type": "DX12",) in the engine.ini file

Please note that your graphic card driver might be also forcing to run DirectX12 so you would have to ensure you stop it, at least temporarily for testing purposes, to see if that helps.

Finally, there has been someone who had the exact issue of yours, managed to resolve it and shared their resolution, which you can find out more about by checking the following thread.
