22s day in Vera we have a very exciting
25s stream for you today it has been some
28s time since we have showed off a bit of
29s the ranged combat and today we are going
32s to be talking about the ranger Arch type
36s with some 17 18 19 skills I can't
39s remember what we're going to be
39s showcasing today in the base archetype
41s but it is a whole lot of Ranger um and I
45s have joining us today three of our
46s glorious developers two of our senior
49s designers TRD and Brian Trad Brian how
52s you guys
53s doing doing good glad to be you here I
55s think it's been a couple since uh we did
57s our last combat showcase I know
61s I'm doing great happy to show off the
62s ranger yeah you've been putting a lot of
64s work on this uh Brian I know this is not
67s just me the whole team absolutely the
68s whole team but you Rangers are near and
70s dear to Your Heart Right aren't you a
72s ranger player don't you play some
73s Rangers yes yeah it it's definitely one
75s of my favorite um favorite classes
78s they're often not done Justice in games
80s so get getting the opportunity to do
82s right by Ranger Mains makes me happy yes
85s and then of course The Man Behind the
87s magic the senior engineer uh and the
90s owner for the PC uh core team Keenan how
93s you doing
95s Keenan H I'm alive happy to be here
98s though yeah this is by the way this is a
101s really cool environment I see Carin in
104s the background we're here in Winter it
107s is uh it's definitely giving me the the
109s Christmas Vibes um and it is it is
112s beautiful I mean the environment team
114s holy smokes what an amazing
118s job I love the snow know everything it
121s feels so cozy um it does now we have
127s let's see I'm in your party we have
129s established from some from some feedback
132s from the community on the showcasing uh
134s that a little one by one of each ability
139s before we get into any combat situations
142s with some mobs or NPCs is desired um
145s it's a nice clean way for us to kind of
147s showcase uh obviously all the hard work
149s that's G into the creation of this
152s excuse me into the creation of this
153s archetype I apologize for coughing guys
155s I've I've recently recently got it got
159s sick and I'm still recovering a little
161s bit but um I am doing much better now so
165s um I think this is a great place what is
167s like some dried up riverbed or something
169s looks pretty cool uh got some nice
171s colors in here now obviously as a
173s disclaimer before we begin I do want to
176s say that UI VFX 100% a work in progress
181s oh my God there's a bird up there and I
184s got oh thank you good a scary little
186s bird um the uh the UI is a work in
189s progress the VFX are work in progress
191s everything here is subject to change uh
193s through testing obviously Alpha 2 coming
195s up is going to be a big opportunity for
197s us to test a lot of this stuff um so
199s please keep that in mind especially you
201s content creators out there who are going
202s to do some review videos make sure you
204s mention that uh at the start of your
206s videos um Keenan how do you feel about
209s being a Target dummy for the Showcase of
212s these
213s abilities I'll tank it all right let's
216s do that and do you have a Healer tread
219s very all right Tad's got you it's all on
221s me here all right there we go all right
223s so I H I am now no longer in your party
226s so that I can murder you um but I have
229s set my uh cooldowns to 0.1 I believe so
233s that I can show each of these abilities
235s off um multiple times as we're talking
237s about it so please keep in mind guys as
240s you're out there watching this display
242s the cooldowns here are set to
245s practically nothing um now we're going
247s to do some combat afterwards I'll set
249s cool cooldowns back um but during this
251s display they're set to nothing let us
253s showcase our first ability I see we have
257s snipe and we showed snipe off last year
260s when we did our um last ranged basic
263s weapon uh combo update um and people got
265s to see a little preview of it last month
268s as well during our artisanship review
271s but talk to me about some of the changes
272s that snipe has gone through and what
274s this ability serves as a purpose Brian
277s yeah so with snipe we've been leaning
279s into it being an alpha strike ability so
282s it's what you want to open with to deal
284s massive damage and and since it's got
286s that uh charge up time you know it's not
289s as good to do when you're needing to
291s kite something but whenever you're just
293s opening on something that's un an
295s unsuspecting Target it's it's the
297s perfect ability for it and if you have
299s spect choices there's other things that
301s lean into it for instance you got that
303s proc on you right now that's giving you
304s 20% bonus attack speed on a successful
308s oh very cool okay let me take a look at
309s that fire it again fire it again you'll
311s see it oh okay let me
314s see yeah Tad help with this he added
317s this into the skill tree yeah just
319s proced on you there so oh there it is
322s yeah so your follow-up shots will come
323s out even
326s quicker cool so that proc is happening
328s because I have specked into a passive
330s and let's take a look this is the first
331s time that people have actually seen uh
334s the progression tree for a particular uh
337s Arch type uh in quite a while actually
339s probably since our alpha 1 um but there
342s has been a lot of work that's gone into
343s this uh from you guys of course um talk
346s to me a little bit about the different
347s types of uh abilities we're seeing here
351s uh Trad do you want to take this one
352s because you put a lot of work into this
354s sure I mean uh we're going to go through
356s all these as we um go through and show
358s show them off one by one but what you're
360s seeing at a at a high level here is just
363s what you'd pretty much expect of a
365s traditional skill tree we're doing um
367s something a little more advanced than
369s just like a bottom up structure um
371s because we're being a little bit more
372s free form in this iteration this will
374s obviously see more UI iterations in the
376s future um but you you'll you'll see like
378s a mix of active and passive abilities
380s here actives are um indicated by their
382s square shape while the circular ones are
385s representing passives and um one thing
387s to note as well is that these these
390s passives are aiming to be a little more
392s interesting than just like you know this
395s ability does more damage now or this you
397s know it has a lower cool down like we do
400s have some of those too but um the goal
403s with a lot of these passives in addition
404s to that is to allow people to lean into
407s unique play Styles so you'll you'll
409s notice that some of them are are
410s changing your gameplay in meaningful
412s ways and that's the direction we want to
414s take um player and character
416s customization as a whole very cool yeah
419s I love it um obviously you know this is
421s all subject to intense feedback from uh
424s the testers who will be participating as
425s part of Alpha 2 um all of this stuff is
428s subject to change as I said uh but it
430s gives you guys a very good idea
431s Direction wise and your feedback is of
433s course why we do these development
434s updates so please make sure um that you
436s give us your thoughts uh back on this
438s type of progression Tree in addition to
440s the Arc Type progression tree we also
443s have something that interacts with each
446s of the archetypes and that is a weapon
448s progression tree as well now OB viously
450s the format of this particular weapon
451s skill tree that you're seeing here is a
453s relatively simplistic one um but talk to
456s me a little bit about the intent and
458s purpose uh behind the weapon skill
461s tree yeah so the the intent here is to
464s give you choices either I want to extend
467s and improve my combo or I want just
470s passive benefits that increase my attack
472s speed or crit chance in this case with
474s the short bow um and yeah as you can see
476s the tree is a lot more simple um kind of
479s like like a stage one tree work in
481s progress but it it'll get fancier over
484s time and I see on the far right hand
485s side Brian that there are additional
488s combo steps um so let me actually unspec
492s um these additional combo steps so that
496s we can talk first about the basic um
500s weapon combo and I'm just going to
502s demonstrate that here I'm going to use
503s the short bow now this is a short bow we
505s are using um you guys remember from last
507s year when we showcased range weapons
509s that we had obviously a number of them
511s some of them Arcane some of them
512s physical but the two bow types that we
513s have are long bow and short bow I'm
515s using the short bow as you can see it is
517s a copper uh short bow um and let's see
522s what this looks like without the combo
527s upgrade that's four
529s hits very cool so it's relatively rapid
532s Pace um especially compared to that of
535s the Longbow that you guys got to see a
537s little while ago let us talk about
539s specking now into these additional combo
542s steps and what does that
545s do oh you know what yes so um we we've
550s done a lot of experimentation over the
552s past couple months to find out what's
554s what's the shortest and what's the
556s longest combo that's acceptable um
558s because we we had this goal where we
560s wanted to have a combo length
563s progression available to players um so
565s that certain builds could have longer
567s weapon combos and other builds can have
569s short shorter weapon combos with more
571s passive effects um and and this has been
574s the result of our exploration so when
576s you start out you've got a a pretty
578s quick four hit combo but whenever you
580s unlock the additional hits you get the
582s fifth and sixth hits which U at
585s approximately 50% to the overall combo
587s length but we we found that that gave a
590s pretty satisfying uh floor and ceiling
593s to how long the combo can be it
596s definitely I can feel absolutely the
598s change obviously in in the pace uh
601s between not having spec into the to the
604s combo um and getting those additional
606s fifth and sixth steps so in addition to
609s the later hits in the combo doing
611s additional damage you also unlock proc
614s effects so on your fifth hit um you
616s unlock the special fifth hit which gives
618s you 10% bonus crit uh Critical Strike
621s chance which you just proc there and
623s then the sixth hit you unlock the
625s special six hit which gives you aerrow
627s storm which causes your next I leave 10
630s attacks to fire an additional Arrow at
632s the
632s Target very cool um so that combos
635s really well with rapid fire ability such
638s as the next ability we're going to be
639s looking at all right let's take a look
642s at barrage so barrage is as fire as a
644s continual barrage of arrows at your
646s target for one and a half seconds
648s dealing 12% physical damage per Arrow
650s okay let's take a look at this might not
653s seem like a lot per Arrow but it fires a
655s lot of arrows now that's a Char is this
657s is this a Charged ability I multiple
659s charges of this uh right now you only
662s have one charge um and we we did some
665s iterations with this um and a lot a lot
668s of play testing um and yeah we changed
671s this back to only having one charge and
672s you can reduce the cooldown of this by
674s completing a weapon combo okay all right
677s let me see this so if I complete a
679s weapon combo it would reduce the cool
681s down now right now I'm set to zero to
682s cool down so we can show that off a
684s little bit later um talk to me a little
687s bit about head shot
691s yeah headshot um it it starts off so
694s there there's ways that you can spe
695s specialize this that turn it into the
697s execute that it's it it was born as
700s originally um it it does pretty high
703s damage but if you spec it appropriately
705s it does bonus damage when the target's
707s below 50% health and if the target is
710s marked it has 50% reduced cool down I
714s believe with the spec that you have oh
716s cool
718s okay so if I have a mark on the target
721s then I get a 50% cool down yeah you get
724s 50% reduced cool down on head shot nice
727s now we haven't talked about marks before
730s you want to talk to me a little bit
731s about the intent behind um
735s marks yep the in the intent behind marks
739s is to provide a a burst window on the
742s target um often in other games it's just
744s bonus damage this is much more
746s significant on the impact that this will
749s have on the target it's basically
751s marking the target for death has a
753s pretty huge effect uh for instance Mark
755s of the tiger it grants 50% bonus
758s critical chance to all attack striking
760s the target Mark of the bear is minus 25%
763s armor and Mark of the Raven is a bonus
766s hit that occurs every time the target is
769s struck and it scales up in damage based
771s on how low on health the target is okay
773s so let me try Mark of the bear so this
776s reduces their mitigation by 25% so when
779s I use an ability first like head shot I
782s just did 76 damage if I were to start
786s headshot and then I can use the mark of
788s the bear while I'm channeling the uh or
791s casting the headshot um it'll it it will
795s apply to the Target while while I'm
797s essentially using headshot is that
799s correct yeah correct uh Keenan and the
802s engineers made us some awesome uh off
804s you might know it in other games as off
806s Global cooldown Tech uh we call it
808s simultaneous C Ing and yeah that allows
811s you to uh cast your marks at the same
813s time as other abilities allowing for a
816s very efficient use of time awesome okay
818s so now it's gone from him I'm doing 76
822s again wow that's a significant
824s bump um yeah Mark of the bear is really
826s good against tanky targets yeah that's
828s awesome Mark of the Raven let's take a
830s look at
832s this I love the effect Scott has done
835s such a great job with
838s these yeah I I love that he decided to
841s join the VFX team and come over and help
843s us with combat he's doing a great job so
845s far absolutely let's see oh they look
849s great very cool that's awesome now in
852s addition to um marks talk to me trat a
856s little bit about hunts what are the
857s Hunts intended to do for sure um so
861s unlike marks which are debuffs on the
863s target um hunts are different Buffs you
866s can put on yourself they're both themed
868s pretty similarly
869s um at first uh we had started with
872s linking these two concepts directly like
874s you would put the hunt on yourself and
876s then shoot that hunt out as a Mark um
879s and Infuse the target with that but we
880s ended up kind of separating them just to
882s make them a little bit more um
884s independently and and freely usable um
887s but the theming you can see is the same
888s we've chosen the tiger bear and Raven um
892s animals but they're um you know stay
894s tuned for more um and yeah like like you
897s guys are talking about um the visual for
899s these are are really cool um but yeah
902s you you'll these are basically like like
904s different Buffs that you will put on
906s yourself and they do tend to have some
909s Synergy with their respective um
911s thematic
913s creatures so I used marker of the Raven
915s this time I was doing 96 damage but
917s that's because I had hunt of the Raven
919s which is giving me additional physical
921s penetration but let me use um let me use
925s Mark of the bear on the target while
927s having that hunt active and now instead
929s of doing 117 I'm doing 179
933s wow that's sign oh I'm doing 117 again
936s but that's
937s because let me see let me try this hold
940s on Mark of the
942s tiger know that's increasing critical
944s chance Ark of the bear
947s is let's try
950s that okay maybe Keenan doesn't have
953s enough armor for the extra to help oh
956s poor Keenan not enough armor gray armor
960s is in kind of some newbie gear down
962s there oh no okay all right but that is
965s the thing about the armor pen is that
967s will scale more and more effectively the
969s more armored your target is so you can
972s think of it as like a counter stat um
974s for for people we build that up that
976s looks awesome all right so now we also
978s have scattershot and this is one of our
980s first AOE abilities uh talk to me a
982s little bit about scatter
984s shot yes like you said it's a AOE
987s ability it fires out in a cone in front
989s front of you um about 20 M ahead um and
993s we've got some pretty cool Tech with
994s this um the the first is we're we're
997s drawing a targeting decal that only the
999s Caster can see um to help like align the
1002s the cast as you're firing it um the
1005s second cool thing that we're doing here
1006s is you can actually charge the
1008s ability into a beam which is better for
1012s uh lower amount of targets so if you
1014s just want to hit a wide field of targets
1016s you would just quick cast it but if you
1018s were interested in awing a specific
1020s smaller pack it'd be more efficient for
1022s you to do The Charge
1027s cast very cool so if I have to I have to
1030s hold the charge to completion to get the
1031s additional um damage value
1035s essentially yes very cool now this is
1038s obviously a big point of
1040s feedback that I think people can provide
1043s um obviously uh there's a lot of
1046s interesting thoughts around um
1049s uh subjective of course uh around UI and
1052s decal elements that help to communicate
1054s kind of these AOE as Brian said this is
1057s obviously going to be a decal that is um
1059s only shown to the Caster uh not you know
1063s um shown across uh to multiple players
1066s um but what is the desire of uh our
1069s community when it comes to showcasing
1071s and demonstrating kind of the area of
1073s effect uh for certain types of spells do
1075s you want uh something um obviously this
1077s is done very elegantly I think gotted
1079s this one as well um I think it looks
1081s great um but uh this is something that
1084s is a point of feedback that we want to
1085s collect for players as you guys get to
1087s kind of play through Alpha 2 uh and as
1089s you're seeing these these updates what
1091s do you enjoy most about conveying uh
1093s these area of effects and this isn't the
1095s only area of effect spell we have we
1097s also have air strike and we've seen air
1099s strike in the past as well uh but this
1101s one's received a little bit of uh TLC
1104s talk to me a little bit about that yeah
1106s um and just real quick the reason why
1108s you're hear my voice a lot is is I'm the
1111s owner of the Ranger so yeah I'm in
1114s charge of this class so that that that's
1117s why I'm the one that that's why you hear
1119s my voice a lot anyways air strike we we
1121s gave this um we gave this an update we
1123s replace the particle effects cuz they
1125s were they were way too laggy um so yeah
1128s Scott again did a pass on these they
1131s look amazing um we also let you have air
1134s control with this so you can steer it
1136s while you're in the air and we we find
1138s tune the animation I believe uh Alex put
1141s in some time to make sure that um it's
1144s it's holding you only for the right
1145s amount it's not it's not grabbing you
1147s and locking you in place weirdly on
1149s Landing um we really polished up how it
1151s how it feels whenever you use it um so
1153s it's just really seamless and nice to
1155s use oh and and the effect that it's
1157s providing if you actually hit a target
1159s with it um it it does pretty big damage
1161s and also Roots the target so this is a
1163s really good skill whenever your tank
1165s pulls in a big pack of Monsters Just air
1167s strike over top of it blck it all down
1169s in place and then you and your Mages
1171s blow up the pack I think it looks great
1174s the animation changes that Alex did look
1176s awesome the additional functionality uh
1178s that you guys incorporated as part of
1180s controlling the air air movement I think
1182s is something that people are going to
1184s love
1185s um
1187s obviously uh air strike also is a uh
1191s significant uh mechanical benefit for
1193s the ranger because it's um uh in
1196s addition to damage is also a CC effect
1200s um talk to me a little bit about uh the
1202s CC that air strike conveys um and in
1205s what's its intended purpose like in
1207s combat I mean there's Mobility
1208s associated with it there's damage
1210s associated with it there's CC it's kind
1211s of a has a broad spectrum of effect
1214s conveyed yeah it it's a pretty powerful
1216s ability and has a long cooldown because
1218s it's providing that wide spectrum of
1220s effect um the ranger is one of the most
1223s mobile classes um it's it's second to
1225s the Rogue only so this is part of how
1228s we're providing that Mobility benefit
1229s and yeah whenever you hit targets
1230s they're rooted in place they cannot move
1233s um so it's it's very effective as as an
1235s escape tool but also uh the hard engage
1237s tool that kind of puts you at risk but
1240s if you got a tank and the cleric at your
1241s back maybe that's the right calculus for
1244s your play
1246s absolutely um all right cool let us
1250s try thundering shot talk to me a little
1253s bit about thundering
1254s shot yeah this is definitely a a
1258s favorite ability on the team by a lot of
1260s people um it shoots a lightning Arrow at
1262s the Target and if you're far enough away
1264s I believe the conversion range is 10 m
1266s it does an additional AOE explosion
1268s around the target ooh okay so that did
1272s 96 let's see if I'm
1275s closer
1277s oh okay so it does variable amount of
1279s damage and also it changes it
1282s to 2 around the target mhm yeah so so
1286s you get more damage um we wanted to have
1289s some abilities in the kit uh at least
1292s with the Showcase that we're showing
1293s right now where it's range Focus where
1295s there's there is some Advantage for
1296s staying at range and also there's some
1299s Advantage for closing on a ranger yeah
1301s absolutely very cool um next up we have
1304s another lightning ability but this one's
1306s called lightning reload talk to me a
1308s little bit about lightning reload
1311s Shad sure um this one's more of a
1314s self-buff effect uh when you put it on
1316s yourself um it will will allow you to
1319s use one of a a few abilities without um
1323s spinning its cool down so I believe a
1325s couple of them are like snip head shot
1327s thundering shot ones we've already been
1329s through okay uh if you pop that first uh
1332s you get about a 5sec window and if you
1334s use one of those abilities within that
1335s window um it will not trigger the CD
1337s meaning you could use it twice back to
1339s back um you can also even use something
1341s that's already on cool down by popping
1343s that first so it's not like you have to
1345s already have it available so you can use
1347s it in a lot of pinches so this is
1348s another concurrent Channel effect that I
1350s can that I can use Brian what are some
1352s of the cool combos with this yeah one of
1355s my one of my favorite ones um is the
1358s triple headshot combo so if a Target is
1361s marked um head shot on them has 50%
1364s reduced coold down if you're spec for it
1367s so what you can do is you can Mark
1369s someone you can head shot and as as
1371s you're charging at the first headshot
1372s throw a mark and then whenever the head
1375s shot hits you lightning reload and then
1377s you get two more head shots right after
1379s that and it makes a really nasty combo
1381s for finishing off an a Target that's
1383s already below 50% Health cuz you're
1385s getting that bonus damage on headshot to
1387s at that point which makes its uh
1389s efficiency per second higher than snipe
1392s okay so with Mark of the
1395s Raven um okay which one gives
1399s the mark benefit you were talking about
1401s for head
1403s shot oh any of the marks will do it um
1406s any of the marks will provide uh 50%
1408s reduced cool down on head shot all right
1410s and I currently have hunt physical
1412s penetration but we've already
1416s determined that you don't have enough
1420s physical mitigation so let us do um hunt
1426s of the
1428s tiger and let us apply Mark of the bear
1431s on
1433s you um while we're casting three so it's
1436s going to be three shift four
1439s and then you said lightning reload and
1441s three twice more yes should I start with
1444s snipe first yeah you can do that okay so
1448s snipe to three while doing Mark of the
1452s bear all right let's try that I'm going
1454s to need some heals
1456s strad
1466s really oh but you know what I did that
1468s with the cool down set to uh yeah set to
1471s nothing oh no hold on let me set that
1474s back to Once okay so this is the normal
1476s cooldown
1477s frequency okay oh not representative of
1480s real gameplay correct yes yes yes all
1482s right let's try that again I'm going to
1484s do the mark of the bar all right here we
1496s go ooh okay very cool that was awesome
1501s yeah it feels pretty crisp but yeah if
1503s Keenan was below half Health there he
1504s would have take I mean he might have
1506s died oh my God Kenan not with me as his
1509s healer I I know too
1512s good all right let me set cool Downs
1514s back uh Max by
1517s Mana okay we've showed
1519s off um lightning reload next up I have
1523s bear trap talk to me a little bit about
1524s bear
1525s trap yes bear trap uh um so we went
1529s through a couple iterations on this we
1530s want we wanted a very solid trap ability
1533s it's right in the name but often in
1535s games they're either too small they
1536s activate Too Short they're just not or
1538s they don't last long enough there's
1539s there's lots of ways for a trap to suck
1542s um and we think we got bear trap in a
1543s decent spot where it's pretty useable uh
1546s you can pre- place them on the ground um
1548s they last for I believe 30 seconds after
1550s you place them so it it's a very
1552s strategic ability uh allowing for Zone
1555s control um you can place these in
1558s between you and and a hostile Target and
1560s and kite them into it you can make like
1562s a little trap wall in front of you so
1564s that if if people are are closing on you
1567s and or rather you're setting up a gank
1569s and you you want to set that up
1570s beforehand so whenever there's a
1572s Counterattack you're already prepared
1573s for it it definitely benefits that
1576s strategically minded player very nice
1578s that looks that that feels great can I
1581s hit my own bear trap I'm just kidding no
1583s thankfully I hope not but if I did I'd
1585s have Call of the Wild um yes
1588s yeah maybe we should just show that one
1591s yeah maybe what is call Wild do it is a
1595s cc break and a movement buff so if you
1599s get hit with a nasty stun or something
1601s you can just break out of it and run
1605s away oo that was cool I love the effects
1608s that's that looked
1610s awesome wait let's try that one more
1612s time so I'm running along give me a stun
1616s uh I got to wait for this cool down try
1617s with the Trap
1618s something all
1621s right hold on yeah but the ranger is a
1623s fairly fragile class overall so if if
1627s they get a stun on them and it doesn't
1628s get cleansed and here I'll I'll do it
1630s again they'd be very
1635s nasty oo that was good that's great yeah
1640s all of our archetypes will have their
1641s own versions of uh CC brakes just cuz
1645s you know that that is one of the things
1647s where you know players want answers to
1649s those kinds of situations and um that'll
1652s be part of your spec choice right is
1653s like how much do you want to build into
1655s your ability to resist and break CC
1658s versus um just be like a a raw glass
1660s Cannon um and accepting those risks um
1664s that that all factors into like the
1665s decision making when it comes to uh
1668s specs yeah one of the pillars that we're
1670s trying to build Combat on top of is
1672s giving players the the true feeling of
1674s agency like they're really in control of
1676s their character and what happens to
1677s their character character rather than
1678s just watching stuff happen to their
1680s character that they have no impact
1684s on oh feels so good Kenan come over here
1688s let me uh let me try this next ability
1692s reigning
1694s death love the name of that by the
1698s way feels like a uh perfect like band
1703s name for a heavy metal
1705s group yeah like a Slayer onong I
1710s know all right cool so riging death is
1714s also using a Caster side targeting decal
1716s so again only the Caster is seeing that
1718s targeting decal I and that that allows
1720s them to line it up a little bit better
1722s and make sure they're hitting the
1723s targets that they want to hit um and
1725s another thing to note is we are making
1727s the spread of projectiles a little more
1729s um even and and dense so as you notice
1733s there's some spots in the decal that
1735s don't look like they're getting hit they
1737s are actually getting hit because of this
1739s this homing arot tech there there's
1741s actually a hit box that's being drawn
1743s there and every Target within that hit
1745s box is is getting a homing Arrow fired
1747s at it actually two homing arrows fired
1749s at it so it's it is hitting stuff even
1752s though it might not look like it right
1754s now we're going to improve that a little

1758s more and Scatter shot has a little bit
1760s of the same thing going on where where
1762s the spread's not really perfect but yeah
1764s that's that's currently in progress with
1765s our VFX artist to make it a little bit
1767s better it's it's a good representation
1769s of like where we've we've been trying to
1772s find a balance between making these
1774s abilities feel organic and not super
1778s like templated to use but at the same
1780s time at the end of the day like game
1782s play is the name of the game and we want
1786s these things to be reliable um and
1788s consistent both from um the users and oh
1793s well look at that you're taking
1794s advantage of the fact that I'm
1796s talking ah he just he just turned into
1801s expected that from you he just turned
1803s into as it's okay I resed him oh that
1807s was so good that was so good that was
1809s little Ash loot piles say I forgot what
1813s you saying that was a great effect I
1815s think SAA worked on worked on excuse
1820s me I think SAA worked on that as well as
1822s the snipe um reauthor as well um but
1826s yeah yeah go ahead reigning death is a
1829s as an example where we we iterate on
1831s these abilities multiple times and and
1833s sometimes it requires a complete rebuild
1835s this is I think the third complete
1837s rebuild of that ability cuz the previous
1839s versions just weren't good enough for
1841s our players um they were they were more
1843s direct fire projectile based which is is
1846s pretty cool cuz you you see there's a
1849s direct connection between the projectile
1850s and dealing damage but we found a
1852s solution where we can we can simulate uh
1856s the appearance of all the projectiles
1857s hitting and then we can also have a
1859s homing volume underneath that so it's
1862s it's very reliable while also looking
1865s Mana sorry Keenan oh no
1869s Keenan oh no oh he's corrupted look at
1872s that oh did I turn corrupt oh I got to
1875s take advantage of it oh no no no wait a
1879s minute wait I have no cool down you
1880s pissed off the clar how did the clear
1882s how did I go
1884s corrupt um by killing an innocent player

1928s a little bit of the um uh the bear claw
1931s I mean the bear trap the um Call of the
1934s Wild we went through lightning reload uh
1937s and thundering shot we talked about the
1939s marks uh and the different hunts that
1941s exist um we have disengage to
1944s show yes uh disengage
1948s uh whenever you don't have you only have
1950s the ability um and you haven't unlocked
1952s any of the passives involved with
1953s disengage uh it'll shoot you right back
1956s whenever you press it so it's really
1958s good for creating space between you and
1960s some targets that are charging at you
1962s you just hit disengage and you'll flip
1964s back all right let me try that
1966s now
1968s go and yeah like Stephen's demonstrating
1971s you can also use it for
1974s traversal um something that we learned
1977s with with disengage though is people
1979s have different preferences for how they
1981s want this ability to activate there
1983s there's some people who've played a lot
1985s of Ranger who just like you know what I
1987s don't want to have to spin my C my
1989s camera around to press disengage yeah um
1992s and to to be able to go forward I just
1994s want it to go forward when I press the
1996s button so we made this uh
1998s omnidirectional disengage option which
2000s caus zero skill points yeah that's
2002s awesome but in the future that'll be
2004s kind of an ability uh option that you
2006s can choose right not not necessarily
2008s through a passive effect um right that's
2011s the intent correct yes that that is the
2014s intent uh we still need to do some work
2016s on how we're going to like display that
2018s to the player to make sure it's it's as
2019s apparent as a spec option right cuz
2021s that's very apparent that you have that
2023s choice um and it can often be lame in
2025s games whenever hadam M Max is all in the
2027s options menu but but we're going to make
2029s sure that that's nice and clean for our
2031s players and it's very apparent the
2033s options that they have available to them
2035s um but yeah whenever you have the
2036s omnidirectional optioning engage now
2038s whenever you're pressing a movement key
2040s uh disengage will send you in that
2042s direction instead of straight back very
2044s cool very cool all right and then last
2048s but not least and then we'll go up to
2049s the uh to the environment and just kind
2051s of play together a little bit is the
2054s imbue ammo talk to me about imbue
2057s ammo yep so imbue ammo um whenever you
2061s cast it it'll imbue your next currently
2063s they're set up to imbue your next 10
2064s shots and this will probably go through
2066s another iteration but Curr ly and abuse
2068s your next 10 shots with a special effect
2071s so we've got weighted ammo concussive
2073s ammo and Barbed ammo right now we're
2075s probably going to add more in the future
2076s uh these are ammo imbus so you're
2078s imbuing your next 10 shots with this
2080s effect uh weighted ammunition is a
2083s snaring effect Barbed is a bleed effect
2086s and concussive is a stagger effect
2090s stagger reduces accuracy and evasion
2093s nice okay and it also uh increases trip
2095s duration go Keenan try just kind of
2098s running down this path and let me do
2100s some uh weighted
2105s shots another element of detail that I I
2109s I really like that that you were down
2111s for going for step was it actually
2113s changing the appearance of the
2115s ammunition whenever you're firing it yes
2117s absolutely um so when you load up
2119s weighted shot it will actually swap your
2122s your bullets that you're fir not bullets
2124s your your arrows that you're firing to
2126s look the part um and it swaps apparently
2130s it swaps over both basic attacks and
2134s barrage
2136s nice very cool yeah if you want to cast
2138s your ammo and then cast barrage you can
2140s show that off let's do it let me do um

2148s running again let's try

2162s me set my cooldowns to something that's
2164s representative of real game play
2166s although I have far more abilities than
2168s I should at level seven but that's okay

2180s now you might however flag when you heal

2211s aim offset there in animation that we

2225s as long as it's within a certain angle
2228s um it it will try to maintain tracking
2230s of the
2232s target uh and yeah the the way that we
2234s pulled it off it's not like uh affecting
2237s your control rotation at all it's just
2239s an appearance
2244s thing oh feels good feels very
2252s good yeah it it did not feel this good a
2256s while ago um I I really want to give
2258s credit to our play testing process this
2260s was in a a much rougher State a couple
2262s months ago
2264s absolutely but yeah we we get in we get
2266s in the game we we play test it the same
2269s way that the players will be play
2271s testing it to make sure that it's going
2272s to be awesome absolutely I think one of
2273s the great team great things that your
2275s team has has done is you've really
2279s defined your iterative Loop right and
2282s and obviously the most important aspect
2284s of that Loop is going to be the play
2286s testing
2287s aspect which you guys play test I mean I
2290s think every day right with uh with NPC
2293s team and the world team um in helping to
2296s Define obviously not just the player
2298s character and the abilities you guys are
2300s authoring but also the playable space
2303s and the playable enemies um that you're
2305s encountering as part of this of this
2307s whole
2308s thing yeah I mean it's important to note
2311s even when we're not in official plates
2312s us like when we're building these things
2314s we make it um a key point to be playing
2318s the stuff as we're building it um like
2320s the designers aren't just making stuff
2322s on paper and handing it off like we
2323s we're in the tools we're building these
2325s things and and we're in a game
2327s environment um and it's I think part of
2329s the reason that these things um come
2332s together so nicely is we can we can like
2334s build them in real time and play them in
2336s real time as we do
2338s so yeah I mean it is help guys oh wait
2342s hold on I'm just taking in the view a
2343s little bit over here because it is a
2346s beautiful view it is definitely
2349s beautiful um and I I love all the
2352s verticality on our Maps but it it has
2355s definitely forced us to make abilities
2357s in a better way um if if we just had
2360s flat Arenas like every other game it
2362s would it would be way easier to to make
2364s all this stuff but that's why we were
2365s forced to make the the cool homing uh
2368s hitbox Tech that both scattershot and
2370s raining death are using because we're
2372s play testing in in the environment we're
2374s figuring out what works or what doesen
2375s and then we're we're adjusting and
2376s building new stuff to
2382s fit oh it feels so
2384s good love the combat with this
2387s Ranger and obviously we have a big
2390s showcase next month with regards to PVP
2393s uh in a more raid format um and you guys
2396s are going to be seeing some changes that
2398s are done to the Mage effects as well
2403s yeah Scott's working on that now oh my
2405s God uh Scott and SAA I believe are both
2407s working on the Mage next so that'll be
2410s very exciting to see that get another
2412s pass
2413s cuz man the Mage can really throw down
2415s the particle
2417s effects absolutely wow that was a big
2419s pull
2422s actually
2425s shredded I love this
2430s area and the mixture of uh creatures
2432s here is kind of
2434s interesting yeah I I I actually like the
2437s Raven has gone through a bunch of
2438s iterations but I I do like the current
2441s iteration of it it could be a little bit
2443s more deadly but I I I think it's
2445s fulfilling its role of like that that
2446s popcorn mob it's super annoying but you
2448s can you can kill it really fast if you
2450s focus it down then it won't give you as
2451s many
2453s issues oh man you just one shot that I
2456s just one shot that
2458s Raven by the way Stephen isn't that
2460s isn't that chard over there like more
2463s relevant which one oh good call yeah we
2465s should talk a little bit about this Zone
2468s um so this is a small point of interest
2470s within the riverlands uh area obviously
2473s we're in the river lands that is rter um
2476s and this particular location called The
2478s Gem spring um is uh a Remnant A Shard
2484s remnant of one of the harbingers uh that
2487s broke off and um actually has begun some
2491s interesting interaction with Essence
2494s within this area so uh those of you guys
2496s who are going to be participating in
2497s Alpha 2 this will be a location where
2499s you're going to have some related quests
2501s and this gives you an idea about uh gem
2504s Springs oh we're here gem
2507s spring um what what he say should we
2509s just should we just do like a massive
2511s AOE oh gosh all right do you want to
