Now having played AOC and new world, one thing stands out, exploring the world is far more engaging in new world then ashes. Primarily because of their approach to gathering, let me explain.
In new world everything is harvestable from the biggest tree to the smallest shrub. If bored there is always something for the player to do.
Oposed to ashes where gatherables are all spread out. meaning there are large stretches of time with little to do, making traversing the world far less engaging.
But won't making everything gatherable diminish the reward the player feels when harvesting?
No, new world dots Rare gatherables and animals around the map to still give the player that jackpot feeling. The common resources feel less rewarding but are great at plugging gaps in game play.
This may be controversial but I think ashes should have a look at how new world has done gathering and take some notes.
