First, this is the calendar that I put every week to talk about what's happening this week. You know this.

The calendar shows that we're working on a hotfix to address the Xbox One issues specifically, and we're looking to confirm Certification on Wednesday, and if we pass Cert, it will be rolled out on Thursday.

And for all intents and purposes, this seemed LITERALLY AS A JOKE!

I definitely understand how frustrated you are with the current state of Battlefield V. That has nothing to do with Phantasatron's post. He literally posts this every single post we put out - as if we haven't answered the question with information directly from the Dev team. And to be quite honest, it's not a priority. Fixing the game is.

It seems like such a small thing to change, so to constantly hear "nah we're not doing that" without any further details doesn't exactly give any resolution.

It is not a priority when there are bigger issues. Perspective is important.

And I’ve given the answer the Devs have given me. If it changes, I’ll let you know. But I’m not pushing for it while the game is in the current state. And if that gets me downvoted, that’s fine. I’m more concerned about stability and playability and tracking issues than if the pilot or tanker are a male or female or what they’re wearing.

Again, it’s a matter of perspective.

Unfortunately, yes. Due to the issues that arose with 4.0 and the hotfix (invisible players, stability, crashing, stuttering), priority has been shifted to those while the team is still working on the artifacting issues mentioned by PartWelsh.

Apologies if I've misunderstood you though.

You’re right. I was replying from my inbox, not through the thread.

Take the edge off and realize that we Xbox players have every right to be pissed off, and your lack of clarity on this issue over the past week has been absolutely revolting. If there were more communication, and that communication was understanding and sympathetic rather than dickish, then you wouldn't be experiencing any ire from the players. The ire would be directed at the game, and at the studio as a whole, not the community manager. I shouldn't even have to explain this to a community manager. The fact that I do shows even more faults in the studio's commitment to this game and this fanbase.

The Xbox One issue is incredible important for us to resolve, which is why we’re pushing for another hotfix this week.

Some words on these topics would be nice. Can we expect to get these two things like it is planned right now or will it delayed like the map so DICE can work on the game first?

I don’t have any information that Promotions (August) will be delayed, and at this time, Private Matches are still on track to roll out after the summer.

I appreciate the response.

With the game in its current state, obviously fixing major game-breaking issues would take priority over adding a new class to the roster, but when things are back to normal I definitely think it'd be worth bringing up again to the devs.

With the new ability to revive people after their vehicle blows up, it might be worth reconsidering the importance of vehicle operator customization. I'll occasionally get my tank destroyed and then get revived, which means I'm stuck with the default tanker loadout. Even the addition of one or two other SMGs, shotguns, or carbines would make it a lot easier to still contribute to the team if your vehicle gets destroyed.

That is a great point to add towards the conversation. Let’s get through these next few updates and focus on getting the game in a solid state, and I’ll re-ignite the conversation internally. No promises that it will make a change, but I can try.

Hey u/braddock512 I love this game, despite the bugs. I trust they'll be fixed. Two things I want to know though:

1.) SERVICE STARS???!?!??

These were my favorite thing to grind for in BF3, BF4, and BF1. I spend an absurd amount of time playing battlefield, but I currently don't have the "fake internet points" incentive to grind my M1907 SF. I will spend $100 on boins if you can make this happen. (Seriously. I know it's chump change for EA/Dice but I want it that badly.)

2.) Reset K/D

I sucked at this game when it launched. Now I don't suck. But I have over 20,000 kills, so it's REALLY arduous to change my K/D by even .01... Can we ever have the option to reset this?

I would consider those some great Quality of Life feature requests. Obviously not something to prioritize right now til we’re out of the woods, but I do have a nice list of features folks have been requesting and we’ll add it there. If I get feedback - one way or the other - I’ll let you know.

That’s a fair question that I’ve been asked previously, and I’ll share the same answer here.

The Marketplace/Armory team are their own team, not related to the core gameplay team that drives fixes, improvements, and new features. With issues in the Marketplace/Armory, most times it’s an incorrectly flagged item that can be quickly “switched off”. This doesn’t require significant code change, a hotfix, or client update as it’s all featured from our backend.

How do we transition pilots and tankers to infantry and infantry into tankers and pilots with call ins? Maybe not for this iteration but in general. If battlefield wants to always remain the combined forces shooter, we need to remove these barriers somehow.

That’s an interesting point. But to be fair, if a pilot bailed out, he shouldn’t be able to switch to having an MMG as a Support (he didn’t have it in the plane with him). I would go so far as to say the pilot and tank driver load out (from spawning in the vehicle) shouldn’t change if they leave the vehicle. (They can pick up another weapon on the ground from friendly or enemy bodies.)

That being said, if a Recon jumped in a vehicle, should he have the same abilities as a someone who spawned into a tank? Like fast repair or the repair torch? In my personal opinion, it wouldn’t matter what class you pick because it would be too fluid - not really matter for the teamwork aspect.

These are just my thoughts, and I appreciate you sharing yours.

The cadence of updates in this BF compared to previous titles would significantly divide the team between the CTE and the release version. By the time an update is released, they’re already working on the next one. (We’re averaging 14-20 days between main updates). So the average CTE "lifespan" of a build would be 2 days - max. Then the team would have to take the new "retail" build when it's released, create a new CTE from it, then start over to get ahead of the "retail" update cadence. The alternative is to reduce the amount of updates - which no one wants (remember it would be like 3 months between updates for BF4?). It's a tough spot right now - and I'm in no way saying the CTE didn't provide a lot of benefit to previous Battlefield games. But with the speed and frequency at which the Dev team are driving updates, improvements, feature drops, etc., it would significantly impact the cadence of release to have the teams divided.

Due to the critical nature of this issue, we have a specific hotfix to address the Xbox One issue coming this week, pending Certification. As u/b0sk1 mentioned, I was referring to fixing the game being more important than focusing on pilot/tanker customization. I wasn't in any way trying to insult or denigrate your position on this customization feature request.

And when we get into a much more solid state with the game - more bugs fixed than created, more stability, smoother sailing - I will revisit the pilot/tanker customization discussion with the Dev team. I know it's a big item for a portion of the community, and I know some don't care.

I don't understand this. You tested it and found out that it failed but released it anyway? Can you expand on how testing goes and use this hotfix as a example?

Well, I am not QA, so I don't have full insight into how they test. But I can discuss what happens with a "Fix Failed" situation.
If a fix is pushed out, it is tested by the QA team. Keep in mind, the team isn't hundreds of thousands of players or even hundreds of players. They test the update/hotfix and look for reproducible bugs to track. If a tracked bug isn't not reproducing after multiple tests, they consider the bug "Fixed". However, once it rolls out to the masses, the potential for an issue increases exponentially.
(I hate math, but here's some statistical stuff)
If a bug has a 1/1000 chance of occurring, when they test for the bug, they'd test it (for example) 200 times each. If it doesn't reoccur, it's considered fixed. However, once you get a massive population of players at once playing, the likelihood of the bug to show up may increase. That's what happened here. Not everyone on Xbox One is crashing, but due to the volume of players who are experiencing this, it is a significant issue and the fix that was rolled out to address this was considered "Fix Failed". That's why, once it was discovered the "Fix Failed", they immediately began looking at options for an additional hotfix for this particular bug. As the potential for reproduction had increased.

So every update / hotfixes has the potential of "Fix Failed". How is DICE going about reducing these? Because it looks like this is a main root of problems recently.

Well, if 50 (for example) QA test it 200 times each, it’s 1000 tests. (Again, I’m not QA and these numbers are just placeholder examples.)

And the team is focused on preventing these kinds of things after the big “oof” of Ch 4.

Doubt I’ll get a response on this, as I fear the answer is that this game has largely been abandoned and obviously they aren’t just going to outright say as much, but on the off chance that isn’t the case, we need to hear it now more than ever. I dont if yall noticed yet but the weekly ToW experience does not match. My last challenge unlocked by itself. So i lost out on 25k experiences towards the chapter ranks. Hopefully u read this so it can get fixed soon. Thanks

I sent this to the team last night. Haven’t seen if there has been an update on it. It’s 6am here in LA, so let me get some coffee and wake up and I’ll check if there is an update.

Couldn't you guys, "Switch off" the armor/items that cause the video glitch, at least temporarily?

I wish it were that simple. As noted below, it’s not a specific skin. It has to do with the rendering stream the engine uses. But the team has made some significant progress. I’m keeping a close watch over that particular Slack room so I can update y’all when we have a confirmed fix.

Yes, as of now bugs and performance are the right thing to concentrate on but after it's fixed, clearly a big part of the community wants to at least not be forced to play as characters they don't want to play as.

I got a really big reply from a couple of the Devs. Let me read through it a few times and see if I can share it today.

I don't know how I hadn't noticed this before, but are you from Austin? Also, thanks for doing what you do. I would imagine that it's a tough job, but also hopefully fun and fulfilling at times to be close to the community.

I grew up south of Houston, then moved to Austin in 2005, where I met my wife and started working in the games industry. Moved to LA a little over 2 yrs ago.

It’s not the easiest job, and there are times when it is frustrating, but that’s mainly because I’m a gamer above anything and it hurts me to see the community in such disarray due to game issues. But overall, I love this job and community.

I absolutely agree, which is why I’ve never banned anyone for their opinion. If they violate the forum rules, there’s consequences that are enforced by the forum mod team.

BS. anything valid that you don't want to hear or want it to become a community wide complaint you label "non-constructive" and ban. don't try to sugarcoat it by lying.

Okay then. I won’t waste your time or mine with this. Have a great day.

What does the next battlefield look like in the modern war or something in the past?

Let's just focus on this one and getting it to a place where we're all playing and having fun and enjoying new content.

Still waiting on that reply huh?

I did receive a reply, but u/PartWelsh and I talked about it and we want to hold on sharing it - just for now - because we have a possible plan that would resolve the frustration of not being able to customize. We just have to get the Devs to agree. I promise I won’t forget about this and if they decide against our idea, we’ll share their feedback.

Hey I was just wondering there was this one update quite a while ago and afterwards hit points would go over a hundred without an enemy dying when hitting one person but it is in no way consistent because sometimes they died in a hundred hit points. I was wondering why and if you guys could please change it back to where 100 hit points per person = dead. PS4.

It’s a bug the team is working on.

Our idea is actually much more significant. Just hang tight.

Yeah well to be frank and fair, every time Dice thinks their “ideas” are better than the communities ideas they’re brutally f**king wrong.

That’s fair and I totally understand where you’re coming from. My comment was more in reference to “just a gender toggle”. But, I can say that the team is now looking at options (once we get stability and bugs sorted) when before it was not.

/u/Braddock512 I believe I’m still effected by the company coin bug. I’ve been at level 50 for a months now and my typical end of round reward is between 50-150cc, even though I sit in the top 5 with a 10k+ score.

Every now and again I’ll get 2500 but never more than that. I know there was a hotfix some months ago but I don’t think that worked for everyone. Is there someone I can contact to get the correct number back?

Hit up EA Help and get a case number, then message me the case number.

I don’t “have moderators remove” anything. EA/DICE do not control this subreddit in any way. (We have enough on our plate, as I’m sure you would agree.) We’re guests on this sub to share information and gather feedback.

I try to play daily (at least on PC) by getting a few matches in during lunch break or right after work.

I would honestly think that they should budget some of your allotted (paid) time to play the game, so you can experience first-hand, what is going right, and what is going wrong.

Heck, you could even screenshot some of the chat, when people recognize your name. Similar concept of "contact hours with the community," just in a different medium.

If I got paid for my "contact hours with the community" as a base, I'd be getting twice what I currently am paid (gaming, chatting on Discord about issues, time on Reddit/Forums outside of working hours, creating events/contests to encourage the community, giveaways, random drop-ins on streams for surprise giveaways, etc.)

The community is not at fault for the flaws in your negotiated contract with your employer. You're sounding like a bitter old man recently.

The comment was saying, "man it would be great if DICE paid their employees to play the game to ensure quality, work you already do", your response was "I work a ton, and don't get paid fairly". Is this the new Battlefield? I don't want a response, but maybe think about this.

That’s not what was stated, but thank you for trying to make it a negative.

I’m fairly compensated for my job. I didn’t say otherwise.

My point, that you totally missed, is the fact that I spend a lot of time - personal time - interacting with the community because this is something I’m passionate about and I don’t just “turn off” like a regular 9-5.

Have a great and positive day.

Addendum: There are positions that are paid to “play the game”. If you’re interested in how the game industry works and what positions those are, there’s plenty of resources online to check out.

Saying "you sound like a bitter old man" does not mean you are. It just means that your post could be construed that way, in my opinion. With that being said, I don't think I should be able to have that take away when the post is coming from a CM (which is why I said something). You certainly sound bitter again in this response, regardless of the nice-ities at the end. Perception doesn't have to equate to reality you know?

The comment was trying to imply that your work outside of work, shouldn't be. Saying DICE should make employees play, doesn't take away from the fact that you already do, a lot. I wasn't trying to make it negative, I was just pointing out that you were taking the conversation away from the point, while sounding like you were complaining. I think that was a fair critique.

Thanks for the (limited time) downvote Jeff. Perception, is not necessarily reality, stay positive.

Your comment made assumptions and accusations of things I didn’t say and my reply was to clarify that erroneous assumption. Nothing was implied.

They're looking at doing something for Xbox One players who literally can't play without crashing. I'll push to find out more info tomorrow - and will let you know as soon as I hear anything. It's not fair that you miss out on Chapter XP because of our issues.

Hey Jeff, Is there any contingency plans if this hot fix fails like last weeks? I am meaning specifically in reference to the TOW chapters.

I dont need to know what the contingency is (yet), but as no ones come out and explained the issue and its failed one hot fix it seems like a substantial issue. If it fails that means for 3 weeks those of us on Xbox have been battling to get into matches praying to do enough for the full challenge, so we dont need to try and fight our way in all over again. For some it's been neigh on impossible.

I appreciate you guys are working on it and that it's often not productive to think in failure but I feel the need for that warm and fuzzy feeling that no matter what myself and my xbox brethren wont just be told to deal with it.
