Hey there,
This issue has been addressed multiple times.
Official servers are a free service we provide to players who purchased the game, and as such they come with benefits and drawbacks. One of those drawbacks is that there are not active admins in the game. Many people expect an MMO-like level of support, which unfortunately can’t be provided similarly to other games within this genre.
Private servers do offer a more direct, hands-on level of moderation, which does also have many positive and negative sides. For instance, many people feel like that level of power is often abused (admin abuse) and they are on the wrong side of active moderation.
It is a complex issue, but we’ve been pretty open when it comes to let you know official servers are most of the time offered as-is, and that we would only step in only in extreme situations (as seen in our public stance). We’ve also mentioned a few times that we will always prefer to address the exploit rather than the exploiter. Which is why we value much more when somebody comes forward and informs us via the appropriate channels on how to reproduce an exploit. Which we can use to fix the issue.
Problem is of course, that many people prefer to keep that knowledge to themselves unless they have been recently affected by it, moment in which it is relayed to us and many times could be considered “a bit too late”.
It is not a black and white situation and any stance will always have things that can be improved and benefits that other stances don’t. We’ve had to settle for one as we only have so many resources we can distribute among the many open fronts active development of a (mostly) multiplayer game has at any given time.
