basicrules
Now that we’ve got the gears in your heads turning, here are some clarifications on what you can and can’t build:

  • Only 16 foundation pieces are allowed and they must be placed in a square. You can use any type of material for the foundation, including DLC foundation pieces. You can also use more than 1 foundation types if you want! You can use LESS than 16 foundation pieces but you cannot add more. The rows and column can be no more than 4. Feel free to use any type of foundation piece (square/cornered/etc.).
  • Only one full floor is allowed that’s as tall as two walls plus added roof/ceiling pieces. You can place walls however you want and use how ever many you want.
  • You can build a split-level/loft using max of 8 ceiling tiles for non ceiling related use above the base foundation. Any other ceiling pieces are used for covering your home.
  • Please limit any outside building pieces such as ramps or non-decor items that are attached to your home and stretch outwards. We are judging tiny homes after all!
  • We’ll be mainly judging the interior of your home but feel free to decorate the outside as well.
  • NO MODS ALLOWED. This is to keep it even across all platforms.
  • You can use DLC.
  • You may use the admin tool to spawn items you need. So feel free to build on singleplayer or a private server if you want. You can of course also build on official servers if you choose.
  • Only one entry per email.
  • Please refrain from sending pictures taken from mobile phone.
  • No photoshop or edits outside of the game.

How to Enter

  • Please send us a screenshot (or more) of your tiny home to this email address: [email protected] to enter.
  • If you do not email us here, it will not be counted.
  • Make sure your subject line is “Building Contest”.
  • We will accept entries until August 5th. Entries submitted after this date will not be counted.
  • In the body of your email, please mention which platform (PS4/Xbox/PC) you built your home. If you built it on a private server, please mention the name of the server. If built on an official server, tell us the number.

screenshotsonconsole
We understand that the process can be easier on PC so here is some help on how to do it for console.

PS4

  1. Press the Share button on your PS4 controller for at least one second.

  2. This will open up the share menu. Here, press the triangle button to save the screenshot. If you want to discard the screenshot, press the circle button on the PlayStation 4 controller.

  3. Once you have your screenshot(s) captured, navigate over to the Capture Gallery, and find the Conan Exiles folder. Press the Option button on the PS4 controller and select Copy to USB Storage Device.

  4. Select the screenshots you want to transfer and copy them over. Once copied over you can easily attach them to an email on your computer.

Xbox

  1. While playing a game double tap the Xbox button on your controller to capture a screenshot and pressing Y to save the screenshot. Or if you’re one of the rare few with Kinect plugged into your Xbox One, you can say “Xbox, take a screenshot” to take and save a screenshot.

  2. After saving the screenshot. Press the Xbox button to suspend the game.

  3. Go to the Upload app on your Xbox One and choose the screenshot you want to share from Manage Captures.

  4. Press the Menu button and choose Share.

  5. You can upload it to OneDrive, then email them from OneDrive. Or just download them to your computer from OneDrive, then email them to us.

Correct, the foundation pieces must be built this way as a base. Building outwards is fine! As long as it’s still one floor. Don’t see a reason to have ceiling pieces restricted. I like the way you’re thinking!

Oh dang, thanks for all the questions everyone! I can definitely tell you’ve got some wild ideas already. And I definitely knew there would be some clarification on some things I would need to write. And thanks to that, I’m altering the rules a bit.
Okay let’s see…

  1. Remember that it can only be as tall as 2 wall pieces

  2. I would keep it to submitting 1 base. I can totally see how you all would have multiple ideas for different bases but gimme your best!

  3. As carlmitch mentioned, yes one submission per person/email

  4. Hmmm…I would allow less than 16 foundation pieces, sure. But they still have to be positioned in a square. If that makes sense? You can’t add more than 4 pieces to a row/column, but you can remove. For example, if you removed a middle piece and an edge piece:
    oooo
    o_oo
    ooo_
    oooo

  5. I would allow lofts/split-level. As long as it’s not a FULL floor. Let’s say the split level can be no more than half the room size. So max 8 ceiling pieces. Inside and outside. (outside of normal roofing for your home)

  6. The baby animal I just spawned in with admin controls. No mods used.

  7. Please be sure to submit interior screenshots but if you went through the trouble of doing the exterior too, send those in! But we’ll be mainly judging interior.

  8. They have to be foundation pieces. You know what? Any foundation piece. Cornered or square. But they still have to be in a 4x4 square.

  1. Regarding pillars, you can use them. But remember our added rule now. No more than 8 ceiling pieces above the base foundation.
  1. Take as many screenshots of your building as you want!
  2. If built on an official server, I would absolutely credit the server. If built on a private server, gimme that server name!
  1. Other than that, go crazy. Use fences to build a tiny garden to go with your tiny home if you want.

Does this make sense? If there’s something I should add please let me know but I also don’t want to stifle any creativity. I’ve added all this to the main post.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

No worries at all! I appreciate the questions. It helps me a lot too with things I didn’t think about.
Anything above the 16 foundation pieces (like ceiling pieces) are limited to 8 pieces. This includes any loft or balcony. Inside and outside.
Not decorations or anything but building pieces. So for example, you used 6 ceiling pieces inside for a nice loft, you have 2 left you could use for the outside for a balcony or something of the sorts.

This is a rule besides your actual ceiling pieces for a roof/cover of your home.
So, your roof/cover + 8 pieces for any flooring/lofts.

I hope people know what I mean

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Exactly! I totally get what you mean now. Thanks againf or the questions!

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Yup! Anything that’s defined as a “foundation piece” can be used as your 16 foundation pieces.

By fitting in a square, do you mean the foundation has to be within a 4x4 grid, but it can be any shape within that grid? (like, is a circle base allowed so long as it fits in a 4x4)

Exactly.

And your example can totally work. You got it!

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Eh, I would just count that as decoration. It’s not foundation and it’s not really a ceiling. Just don’t go nuts and build a ton or anything. Honestly, I’m not going to be SUPER strict about all this. Just make it a cute tiny home with the rules described and all else is good.

Regarding entries, one entry per person. So one email with one home per person. You can send as many screenshots as you want in your email!
I don’t think we’re doing multiple entries this time. Maybe in the future though!
Nudity is allowed.

@Born2bAlive It doesn’t HAVE to be a home, I guess. What exactly are you thinking?

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

@Born2bAlive Hm that’s an excellent point. Yeah I’m fine with that as long as it still all follows the rules.

@drukuku If you do, I can’t count it towards the Tiny Home contest building you submit. The entry you submit can only use up to the 16 pieces in the square formation. :C

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

@Barnes You totally can! But just make sure to email them in first!

@zerog I’m okay with people using Ansel. I’ll add that to the rules for clarification. We’ll judge more on the actual home than the screenshot quality.

@Ishinaia Example A is perfectly fine. It’s 2 walls high + roof piece. \o/

Like I said, I’m not gonna go and be SUPER strict about the rules as long as you stick close to them.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Indeed, it’s a mod so not allowed. Basically, if players on PS4/Xbox don’t have access to it, don’t use it on PC. Sorry! That’s a really neat idea though and something I’d LOVE to see outside of the contest. Sounds cool!

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Exactly as Cauthey said. I don’t want to be super strict about all this so as long as you try to follow closely to the rules that’s fine. I just want to make sure people make a small home and avoid doing anything big.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Yeah! Just be aware that if you build a house in co-op, it can only be submitted once by one person.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Yeah what drukuku said is perfectly fine. I don’t mind any size formatting editing. However you want to send them is fine as long as it’s safe of course. Google Drive is okay by me.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

I mention it for a couple reasons but for example, in previous contests we’ll get submissions that have nothing to do with the contest. So we’ll receive buildings people already have built that don’t meet any of the criteria and then ask why they don’t receive a DLC key.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Hm that’s an excellent point. I’ll allow it (if you all will agree with me) since it works more as a “decorative piece”. When I say, “foundation” I’m talking more about the ability to walk on it and increase surface space. This fits within a 4x4 foundation area so I’m okay with it; I just didn’t want people expanding their “tiny” home too much.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

“Building Contest” is fine. It helps with us knowing it’s for the contest and not something else. I have a special folder in my email for contest entries. :star_struck:
Once we announce the winners on August 8th, we’ll reply to them as well as whoever participated. So you’ll get an email either the day after on Friday or the next Monday.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

You’re good! They’re likely from Jens and Natascha but all CMs get emails sent to that email address. So I have it!

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Anyone who plays the game can join! Absolutely not restricted to just forum members.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

So far, more than 100. @_@

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Quality is fine as long as we can tell what we’re looking at. The last contest, we specifically wanted good quality shots since they were made into framed pictures in the game! There isn’t a prize this time so the screenshots are just for us to judge.
And yes, once the contest closes we’ll look through all entries and contact you about DLC!

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

Once the contest closes and we announce the winners on the 8th I’d LOVE to make a separate thread for everyone to post their creations on. We’ll make a post on the winners and everyone will be free to put theirs up. I won’t be able to post every single creation due to the huge amount of entries we got.
@Bourgmestre No, but that’s a great prize idea for a future contest!

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

As long as you sent it in to [email protected] you’re fine!
We aren’t replying to each individual email we receive but we will be contacting you after the contest about participation prizes/winners. If you’re unsure and want to be sure we got it, you’re welcome to DM me and give me the email address you sent it with.

almost 5 years ago - Spynosaur_Nicole - Direct link

That’s fine if you’re replying to the same email or using the same email address. Just be sure to specify that it’s your final one since we will only be judging one home from one email address.
