FOLLOW-UP FROM:

EXPERIMENTAL BUILD:

Work continues on the GPU-related crashes our players have been experiencing, and with that we recommend anyone with repeated crashes to try the experimental build.

Instructions on how to switch to the experimental build can be seen below, and you can opt out at any time by deselecting the build within the dropdown.

Please bear in mind that this is experimental! This means certain aspects of Darktide, such as player portraits, may be missing.

  1. Open the Steam client
  2. Right-click Darktide in your Steam library
  3. Select ‘Properties’
  4. Select ‘Betas’
  5. Enter the password cTYPtKTsfMDsLHAV
  6. Select ‘Check Code’
  7. Select the ‘None’ dropdown, and experimental - Experimental Builds should now be within the list
  8. Select experimental - Experimental Builds
  9. Close the pop-up window
  10. A download should now start
  11. Play!
  12. Post here to let us know the outcome

LOCALISED ISSUES:

Experimental build aside, please remember that some crashes can occur as the result of localised issues, such as bad drivers.

Potential solutions can be seen in the articles linked below, but please be aware this may reduce the rate at which you experience GPU-related crashes, but may not eliminate them at this time. We are working on it.

We are aware that dramatically lowering the ‘Worker Thread’ count within the launcher’s ‘Settings’ menu down to 1 has been the only way some players have been able to avoid crashing. This comes at the cost of performance, and we consider it to be only a short-term workaround.

Nope! Matchmaking is unaffected. You’ll be able to connect and play as normal (with hopefully, less crashes).

Hi Solun. You are on a very old driver (dec 2022), and something seems to go wrong with the shader cache for you. I would suggest that you firstly update your driver and then erase everything in C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide. Or if you want to keep your settings, only erase the files ending with .pso_lib and .hans. Then run the game again.

A new experimental build is in the works!

Experimental is now available.

If you haven’t already, could you try to wipe your %Appdata%/roaming/Fatshark/Darktide folder from .hans and .pso_lib files, also clear your windows Shader cache. (Using Disk Cleanup tool)

Just to make sure your issues aren’t stemming from cached broken shaders somehow.

Experimental branch without portraits is online again.

A new experimental build has been deployed which disables portraits again, and also fixes the stutters. (unrelated to portraits). A feature to disable portraits properly in the main game was planned for this patch, but was unfortunately last minute delayed due to unforseen consequences.

post the guid that’s being printed by our crash popup and we might be able to help you

The experimental build is now mirroring the live build, meaning it is essentially redundant. We have now implemented an option within ‘Settings’ → ‘Interface’ that allows you to disable Portrait Rendering, which we understand is a common cause of GPU-related crashes for some:
