Hey Everyone, Hotfix #55 (1.6.2) is currently being rolled out across our platforms and it should be out everywhere in an hour. You can read the notes below! Audio Fixes
  • Fixed an issue that caused audio stutter and performance degradation when using virtual surround functionality on Console and PC (e.g. the audio crackling).
  • Merged fixes for the audio stutter and stall issues that were first introduced in the “Path of Redemption” update. These were made much worse recently with the issue introduced in 1.6.1. These specific fixes were the ones we tested on the experimental branch on Steam.
    • Fixed priorities for file reader queues, meaning audio will have higher priority than other file reads.
    • [Audio System] Removed code for cancelling a read request since it could stall/deadlock for some users.

Hey Everyone,

We wanted to share a message saying we’re aware of audio issues being present since 1.6.0 and 1.6.1. After further investigation we’ve identified that these are two distinct issues. They are predominantly apparent on XBOX, but they also may affect other platforms.

Hey Everyone,  For Grim Protocols, we are releasing a new mission known as Dark Communion. To celebrate its release, we interviewed some of the devs and Fatshark team members who helped bring it to life.

We’re going to talk a bit about the narrative that inspired it, the level design process, the art and the visual effects. As always, we want to give you an overview of the process of creating the mission, but we still want to leave some things unsaid for players to discover for themselves when they boot up the map for the first time.

Let’s dive back into the carnival.

P.S. We waited to share this dev blog until a few days after release so everyone could have a chance to try it out without any spoilers.

With Dark Communion we wanted to forward the narrative of the Moebian 6th activities in The Carnival, as well a... Read more

December 4, 2024 Hey Everyone,
Since the release of Grim Protocols and our new game mode Havoc yesterday, we’ve received reports from some players experiencing error 9999 and subsequently being unable to continue playing Havoc. We found a few reasons causing this lockout to happen, mostly related to team composition changing before the mission starts.

We have implemented a temporary fix that will prevent this error 9999 from happening.
This is a temporary fix that might have unintended effects. We are working on a more complete fix which we are aiming to have fully implemented for Hotfix 1.6.2 next week.

We’ll be continuing to monitor the situation to ensure everyone can boot up and take on the challenge of Havoc.

Hey Everyone,
We’re making a few layout changes to Ogryn’s Talent Tree with the upcoming Grim Protocols patch on December 3rd. This will reset player’s talent trees and require them to redistribute points.

We wanted to let you know ahead of time so players can take note of their current talent tree distribution.

Have a great weekend,

The Darktide Team

From the moment the Rejects arrived on Tertium, Interrogator Rannick harboured suspicions that there was more to the invasion than met even his over-suspicious eye. Now, with the forthcoming Grim Protocols update, there are signs that the Battle for Tertium is entering a new phase.

We sat down with Narrative Producer Michael Knight and Lead Writer Matthew Ward to find out more.

So, Tertium’s in trouble then?

Mike: It’s always in trouble, isn’t it? But yes, things are about to get worse.

Matthew: Are they though? Isn’t it more the case that Rannick’s finally about to realise just how bad they’ve really been from the start?

Mike: I know, right? He’s probably known something was badly wrong ever since the Orthus Offensive last year, but that’s the problem with suspecting everyone and everyth... Read more

Hey Everyone, Hotfix #53 (1.5.11) is live now on Steam and it will shortly follow on our other platforms. You can read the patch notes below! This is only a smaller update before we release Grim Protocols next week. Bug fixes and tweaks will be wrapped into that larger patch next week.
QoL updates Tertium Logo Animation and Text Update: In this update we’ve added some small changes to transitional screens in Darktide, which will appear while you are loading.
  • The animated spinning Tertium logo is now present in more places, such as after a mission.
  • Text has been added to indicate on what step the game process is currently at.
Dev Note: The intent with this addition is to make it more transparent to players what happens during these transitions, and give more clarity to troubleshooting in case players run... Read more

Hey Everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, we released an Introduction to Havoc dev blog. Similar to when we released the Introduction to Itemization dev blog over the summer, we’ve received a lot of comments and questions.

For Itemization, we answered these in the form of a couple of Q&A posts, and we thought it would be a great format to use for discussing Havoc, as well.

Hey Everyone,

We’ve been cooking for you. We’re ready to announce our next major update, Grim Protocols. It will be released on 3 December on all platforms.

This update will include:
New Game Mode - Havoc: Think you’ve mastered the threat over Tertium? Think again. Havoc is a new end-game experience that will test the resolve of the most seasoned operative. Be ready to face daunting challenges and earn new cosmetic rewards. We’ve posted an initial dev blog about this, and we’re working on finishing the Q&A post to follow.
New Mission - Dark Communion: Return to the Carnival and explore its darkest corners. Stee... Read more

Hello Everyone,
We’ve long seen the comments from players saying they want more of a challenge from Darktide. Players would like to continually challenge themselves and improve their skills. You want to face the horrors of the tide.

We’re excited to announce the next major game feature we have been working on for Darktide: Havoc.

If you’re a player who relishes overcoming obstacles and seeks to measure and improve your abilities, then Havoc has been crafted specifically for you.

This dev blog is an introduction to Havoc and to answer initial questions. We’re still performing tests for it, and we’ll announce a release date as soon as we are confident! We will be following this dev blog up with another Q&A, similar to what we did with Itemization.

What is Havoc? Commissar Dukane and the Moebian 53rd Steelheads have arrived on Atoma, keen to prove their mettle and quash this uprising. Havoc missions represent Dukane’s influence on the war ... Read more

Dispatch them at close quarters to avoid this.

This event will start on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The rewards will be Ordo dockets, Plasteel and Diamantine. Those who complete the last tier of the event will receive a new Portrait Frame. Introduction In Darktide we wanted all sounds to feel coherent and real, even though the Warhammer 40,000 universe is full of concepts based on fiction. It’s very easy as a sound designer to fall into cliches when making futuristic or fictive designs. You know, a sci-fi gun doesn’t have to go “pew-pew” when you shoot it. Me and the team actively avoided these cliches, because first of all it’s boring, and second of all, the Warhammer 40,000 universe has its own unique sounds.

My name is Johan W., one of the sound designers here at Fatshark. And in this dev blog I’m gonna go into some details in the process of creating the sound direction for Darktide.

How It Started A good place to start is to bring up Anders D. G., our Game Director. He was the one sitting on the vision for Darktide. We had a lot of chats about sound and music in general and shared refe... Read more

Heyo Everyone,
Hotfix #51 (aka 1.5.4) is out now and you can find the patch notes for it below! It is out now on Steam and it will shortly follow on our other platforms.
Render Settings Reset With 1.5.0 and the introduction of FSR 3.1 Frame Generation we accidentally defaulted the Frame Gen setting to be on. This was unintentional and we apologize for the inconvenience. With this hotfix, the launcher will be doing a proper re-detection of your render settings and reset the frame generation setting to off. This applies even if you have explicitly turned on Frame Generation. You will have to turn it on again, and you might want to tweak other render settings to your liking after the first time you launch the game.
Deprecating Fullscreen Exclusive (FSE) Display Mode What? With 1.5.4 we will be deprecating our Fullscreen Exclusive (currently named "Fulls... Read more

Heya Everyone,
We are putting out a hotfix this week which might require players to tweak their render settings again when first launching the game on PC.

When Unlocked & Unloaded came out last month, we added FSR 3.1 Frame Generation. As many noticed, this was defaulted to “on” and it caused issues for some players.

Honestly, this was unintentional, as it was not meant to be defaulted to on.

For this next Hotfix #51, we will update the settings version which will force the launcher to re-detect players’ render settings, this will reset the FSR3.1 frame generation to off. This is partially to revert the defaulted frame generation setting and partially to clean up resolutions and render settings to prepare for another change coming with the hotfix.

When launching the game for the first time, the launcher will show a pop up ... Read more

The release of Unlocked and Loaded brought a new face to the Mourningstar. Commissar Darinda Dukane has assumed command of the Moebian 53rd regiment - the famed Steelheads. These stalwart troops have been deployed to Tertium at the behest of the Planetary Governor, Lord Margrave, who is disturbed by the perceived lack of progress made by the Inquisition.

But what is a Commissar of the Astra Militarum? The Commissars of the Officio Prefectus are fearsome, iron-fisted authoritarians who keep the wheels of the Astra Militarum in motion. To the masses of Humanity, most of whom recognise the black greatcoat, peaked cap and polished boots of a Commissar from hab-block propaganda frescoes or grainy recruitment vids, these inflexible men and women are Imperial authority made manifest. Their amorphous remit is to ensure that all do their duty in the Emperor’s name, an... Read more
