For reference I'm an older player of the game and back a few years ago this community was actually what it was advertised as. Accepting and actually wholesome, unlike what it is now. More and more I see lobbies with titles like "NO NEW PLAYERS/NOOB = KICK/DEATH = KICK". What kind of message are we sending to new players here? Not to even mention the amount of slurs I've seen on server names with no consequences to the people who put them there.
What do I mean by popularity curse? Well, tl;dr it's just this game gaining a wider audience, usually not a great one.
The whole "accepting/wholesome" feeling this community is trying to generate has fallen flat on it's face over time. The only reason it appears as accepting is because the game doesn't have taunts or ways to tell players to f*ck off with a single button press, unlike the salute.
Earlier today there was a thread making an innocent joke involving, god forbid, furries.
I know, I know, to some of you the mere mention of these creatures is scary but please contain yourselves. They are not the animal f*ckers or kid f*ckers some of you morons may think they are.
The amount of people I've seen sh*t on furries in these threads because of these baseless and disgusting accusations is absolutely f*cking vile. Some of you are even giving full essays on why you think your hatred of them is justified, while others settle for the more direct approach of "yea they're just some pedophiles and kid f*ckers".
This is not limited to furries by any means either, god fobid you dare to be a new player jumping into a public lobby or even worse, daring to touch gold.
Again, what kind of goddamn message are we sending to new players with this? I've been avoiding public lobbies for the past few months because of this, the public lobby experience is turning away from the casual style it had to people tryharding in complete silence, often not responding to messages or salutes from other teammates.
Whatever has been going on needs to stop, or I'm getting out of here as quick as I came years ago.
