I just wonder what they had to playtest to bring up another double XP mug-like event. Surely they could've replaced the texture with a pumpkin and make some people happy.

It’s a bit more complicated than that. Outside of actual implementation (which requires more than a skin), there’s some logistics that needs to add up. So, we’ve started planning ahead for these events, so we don’t have to do an update right before they happen. Why? Well, we work on new content constantly, which means we’d have to branch our builds to make sure the new untested stuff doesn’t slip out… but the event content still needs to be present when the next update comes out, and that becomes an issue. Also, on Steam putting out updates is easy, but consoles have more friction and systems that needs to pass the update, so having all that ready weeks or months in advance is great! We made the Oktoberfest event as en experiment to see what happens if we do double Season XP like this. Will more people complete the Season pass? Will more people play? However, we only really had time to implement it for one event in time, as they both where released in the same patch, and the oktoberfest was the obvious choice since we had the idea, and the beer theme is pretty obvious. Next double Season event will be for Christmas and it won’t be a reskin of another mug hunt.
