I have been playing this since it is free from Playstation plus. The game updated language pack last week. The Chinese translation really surprise me, in a good way. The translation is good, accurate and easy to understand. It is not direct translation from English to Chinese, and it convey the meaning well. It takes someone with actual understanding in both language to do it. Direct translation will feel odd on the other hand, glad they didn't do that.

I have seen some really bad translation in other games. Ghost of Tsushima got the meaning wrong, and it almost like google translate. Gundam battle operation 2 got google translate, copy and paste the wrong text box, word spilling out the text box.

Fun fact; Most, if not all, of the translations, are done by the community itself.

There are a couple of reasons behind that model:
First and foremost, GSG started out small, so there wasn't really any bandwidth to do more languages. Having it crowdsourced lets the fans get their specific languages into the game by pitching in with the translation.

Second point. The way we make DRG (essentially a steady flow of updates within a short break between) makes it hard to have everything ready in due time for translations to be done in time for the update. A lot of flavor text isn't really ready until a few weeks before release, so being able to push it to the community hive mind is a great advantage.

It would be incredibly hard to do the number of languages we have, without the help of the community. It might not always be the perfect grammatical symphony some might expect of a game, but I feel that having the game translated by people who actively play it, adds a lot to the overall quality of it. If you haven't gone to Hoxxes, it's impossible to know the context and meaning of things that are happening, so it really works out well for us.
