Hello Miners, Gasp! Shriek! Shiver! It is time for the spookiest of all DRG Seasonal Events. Halloween is haunting the Space Rig - and Management has approved a couple things for the occasion:

  • The new Halloween Party assignment is now available to all eligible employees*. And you know there will be a significant payout waiting for you upon completion.
  • Two new masks, awarded upon completion of the Halloween Party assignment. The Scary Rubber Mask will finally let you dress up as Mission Control. And the Hooded Monster will make you look like…a hooded monster. Scare your fellow employees in style, whichever option you choose!
  • The Space Rig has been decorated to fit the theme. Summon a beer from Lloyd’s pumpkin-infested bar or start a group chant while operating the altar of Deep Dives, whatever gets you in the spirit of Halloween. Also, some uninvited guests have made their way onto the Space Rig. Spoooooky…

Management hopes you will have an enjoyable, frightening, and profitable Halloween. And remember, there is nothing as scary as an unfinished assignment. Get to work, Miners.

Rock and Stone!

With Love,
The Ghost Ship Crew

*Completing the onboarding assignment “Conquer Hoxxes” makes you eligible for picking new assignments

As a heads-up because I imagine I'll see some comments about it: the TOA Drop Rates blog is looking more-or-less there and we'll very likely have it in front of you all before the end of this week.

Enjoy Halloween! The art team knocked this one out of the park!

Looking forward to trying poison dynamite. But if the accuracy is based on equipment won't that be pretty useless for skillers, since they can barely equip any gear?

Previously, the poison dynamite was always counted as Crush damage. This change means even level 3s are able to impact NPCs who might be immune to certain styles or only vulnerable to one specific style!

Is there any way we could know if this is an issue with available manpower to work on this? If it's not a question of manpower, from my perspective it seems odd why this blog has taken as long as it has from initial announcement of it being released.

Is the formula so complicated it can't be given? Is there issues with stealth tuning the rates to hit more acceptable numbers to the team and not wanting to share that information?

It just seems like this should have been something pretty easy to write up. Unless we wrote some insane algorithm for calculating droprate, but if the invocations are scaling linearly with health or invoc level or a mix of both and not something like a weighting towards higher invocs (even then) why would it take so much time for this to come out?

No stealth tuning is occurring.

It's also worth noting that the 'announcement' here was a comment on a Q&A and sometimes can't anticipate/take into account the availability of those involved to help put the blog together.

It's not so complicated that it can't be given, but it is pretty complicated. There's no simple 'at 500 Raid Level this item is a 1/40'. The blog constitutes more or less a complete breakdown of exactly what's going on with droprates. It's full of numbers, and can get difficult to follow at some points.

The extra time is a by-product of wanting more passes over it to make sure that the information is presented as clearly as possible and hopefully well-understood, so that people aren't left with more questions than answers.

I've noticed in a lot of blog posts the team have started writing dates backwards. For example, in this one you've written "November 2nd" instead of "2nd of November"... Is there an American jmod writing the posts now?

Very excited for the Halloween event!!

No! It's just for consistency's sake, we still use dd/mm/yy where needed, but 'November 2nd' comes more naturally when writing and I think is less 'unusual' for ESL speakers.

Timer only 20 minutes? SMH

Hey Ali. There was an issue where only UK worlds were able to see a timer. Apologies for the shorter timer that you've had today. Your world wasn't seeing the timer properly.

We've identified the cause of the issue and will make sure it doesn't happen again.

The rune pouch note from slayer masters change from last week was never implemented. Is this getting fixed?

Just asked the devs about this one, looks like this one was pulled during QA and wasn't removed from the blog. We'll retroactively update the blog, and can only apologise in the meantime for the error.

Another game jam? I mean it's great and all but we've only had 1 idea implemented from the previous one but it wasn't that exciting compared to the rest of the content that was made.

I'd have rather the time went into developing some of those concepts for the real game than waste another week on "what could be" content

I've seen a few people say this, I think what people need to appreciate is that oftentimes content is scheduled far longer than 6 months in advance. Meaning that if we're having a Game Jam every 6 months, the odds of seeing content from Game Jam A release before Game Jam B occurs are astronomically low.

It was also our first one! We're still getting a sense of the kind of 'scale' of pitch that makes the best fit for a Game Jam pitch, and some of the stuff we shared last year is absolutely massive in scope. The 'what could be' content is actually really nice to help us inform roadmaps down the line, and absolutely essential to try and keep the flow of content into the game steady.

Also, while a little bit of a tangent, the Game Jam gives us an opportunity to work closely with people we might not always connect with a lot during office hours and is really powerful for teambuilding and improving morale!

I'm not aware of anything like this, but would never want to stop you feeling closer to your character!

I don't have a better answer for this thtan 'when it's ready'. The rework will be available before the end of the year, but beyond that I have no specifics to share.

Unrelated, but is there a rough ETA for the dragon pick being added to KQ drop table?

My understanding is that this is due to occur alongside the Wilderness Boss Rework, so that the likely drop in the pickaxe's price doesn't adversely affect the current profitability of the bosses in a significant way.

Hey, just wanted to say I love the concept of the Halloween event this year! It really gives off the social MMO vibe from the old events, where everyone is doing the same thing. I feel like the group/social aspect could have been enhanced with a global indicator of how much candy was deposited into the cauldron. The model could change to appear more and more full, with an option to check global deposits.

Maybe a similar idea could be implemented with presents into Santa's sleigh for a Christmas event in the future? Great job to the team, made my day :)

EDIT: I just noticed the global count is there! Great job guys!

The Great Cauldron will change states as goals are reached, and should be a right-click 'Check' option on the Great Cauldron that tshows you the community's current progress. If the 'Check' op isn't showing up, let me know!

Just used my divine rune pouch on Purdu and it's now only showing 3 runesin there. I can still use the runes I can't see, but definitely a bug there

Both of these issues should have been hotfixed, and have been added to the top of the newspost. If either of them persist, let me know!

Can we please get a eta (at least roughly, november? december?) for this summit stream? Every update is so depressing and im trying hard not to be negative but other than toa the updates have been lacklustre for a while now for someone who isnt interested in quest speedrunning/fsw.

is there anything else planned for this year other than the wildy boss rework? When we can expect it? November? December?

Think we've said before in other comments, but currently pencilled in for early December

There is absolutely no way the formula is correct. Based on crowdsourcing in solos, a 350 invo raid is 1/17ish. Let’s be generous and say 1/20. People are doing 100-150 raids and going dry. Your math is incredibly flawed on solos.

I just threw out random numbers to illustrate what the blog would not be in terms of the numbers you'll see in there. i.e. don't expect 'this item is this rarity at this raid level' because TOA's drop mechanics are a lot more complicated than that, as you'll see later in the week.

Math is math, it'll be in the blog - if peoples' anecdotal experience isn't lining up with crowdsourced data, it's likely because there are some factors (especially death) which crowdsourcing isn't yet adequately able to account for.
