[2019] TIL that in 2015, Prince voiced his dislike of record labels saying "Record contracts are just like — I'm gonna say the word – slavery." He concluded "I would tell any young artist ... don't sign." At the time he advocated seeing artists paid directly from streaming services, cutting out middlemen.

You can see many more "pulling no punches" comments from him and others who had joined onto his anti-label movement if you can get your hands on those old NPG Ahdio Club recordings (which was also one of the more interesting early experiments in music podcasts, and produced some great music and remixes)
