Hello Everyone,

EDIT: I need to add this at the beginning since some people will not read past the first few sentences; this change applies to ALL OF PVE. TESTING WAS DONE OUTSIDE OF THE NETHER. This is such an easy thing to test yourself, go into PVE and pick up a brick. As long as it is not an Ammo Finder brick, you will get the exact same ammo each and every time. This number can vary depending on how many reserve mods and scavenger mods you have, but the number will stay the same per pick up. The new number is generally lower than the minimum you could receive pre patch, hence the "nerf."

EDIT2: If I could edit the title I would, I don't want to make it sound like Bungie is doing some sneaky sh*t, just wanted to spread awareness. Overall, this is a slight nerf to total ammo received per brick, but getting consistent ammo every time is honestly a great change for consistency.

Final Edit: Bungie has confirmed this is a bug, will be fixed.

I want to preface this by saying this may not have been intentional, as I have not seen anything in the patch notes about it, but I do believe this may be the first step of many to how they will be revamping the ammo system in Frontiers.

To put it simply, Bungie has removed the variability in how much ammo you receive per brick for ALL special and heavy weapons. No longer is it a random value between x and y, it is now a set number, every single time. However, there is some variability in what this set number is, depending on a few factors;

  1. Mag size

  2. Reserve mods

  3. Scavenger mods

Yesterday while in the Nether, I noticed that my weapons were receiving slightly lower ammo from bricks than pre patch. My weapons of choice at the time was a trench barrel Prophet of Doom and Thunderlord, both of which I have used extensively. I chalked it down to being a unique modifier on the mode, since Bungie stated they wanted ammo to be scarcer. However, I noticed that outside the Nether, the ammo was still the same. I want to post Mossy Max's Ammo Reserve spreadsheet for context to what Bungie actually changed;

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1l3xBHFa6ZMe86e13segg8f-RB8vLNerYEgNC_Aq3kLc/edit?gid=194376820#gid=194376820

Let's look at shotguns, specifically prophet of doom with no mag increasing perks or reserve perks. As you can see on the spreadsheet, Prophet could receive anywhere from 6-7 rounds per brick, with an extra round if you have scavenger mods. After the patch, that number is now 5. It appears that finder bricks are unchanged, and still give a random ammo amount between 2 values.

Now you're asking, "One shot? Not a big deal". This is a big deal when you focus on weapons that have much larger reserve pools, like machine guns, rocket sidearms, and exotics like Choir of One. I proceeded to record my ammo counts per regular ammo brick for some of my favorite specials and heavies, I encourage you to compare these brick counts to what they were prepatch on the Ammo Reserve spreadsheet.

(Note: Testing was done in Patrol on the Cosmodrome with 3 reserve mods for every weapon type. Every weapon was tested with at least 3 bricks to confirm consistency. If you try to replicate the tests, be aware our numbers may not be the same depending on the 3 factors I mentioned above. Just notice that every brick you pick up will be the exact same.)

As you can see, every weapons ammo per brick has been reduced across the board. I hope Bungie can come out and say something, maybe it was a missed patch note or a change that wasn't ready yet. Overall, my thoughts on this change are mixed. I love consistent ammo per brick, and think its a fantastic change for consistency's sake. However, The amount of ammo received needs a slight bump, especially for MGs and a few special exotics. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the report. We're aware of an issue where standard Special and Heavy ammo bricks in PvE are giving 5-10% less ammo than intended. This does not affect Finder ammo bricks and ammo from other sources, which are unchanged. We're currently working on a fix, planned for an upcoming update.
