Starting today, we have revised our Restriction and Ban policy to include the use of input macros to automate gameplay. While input macros can be a beneficial accessibility tool for many—and we intend to keep it that way—some have been leveraging these tools to automate gameplay.

Players detected using automation to circumvent idle detection or perform automated activities to earn loot may be restricted or banned. Loot includes, but is not limited to, XP, materials, or drops (e.g. Exotic class items). Automation or circumvention includes, but is not limited to, the use of programmable controllers, keyboard/mouse adapters, advanced macros, or artificial intelligence.

We have no plans to retroactively issue bans or restrictions to anyone, and any bans or restrictions related to this policy change will be issued for future infractions. Players who are currently using or have used macros for the above purposes may receive an in-game message warning against the future use of macros.

Additionally, a small amount of account actions have been issued over the last few days for unrelated Terms of Use violations.

As a final note, accessibility in games is important to us. As we continue to look at opportunities within Destiny 2 to expand upon accessibility options, we want to ensure players who are using macros for the purpose of accessibility will not be actioned upon.

Seeing some Q's around checkpoint bots.

We have no plans to issue restrictions or bans to checkpoint bots under this policy change. Breathe easy.

On that topic, hit us with feedback on what activities you most often use checkpoint bots for, and why. Happy to pass that along.

I dunno man, all the actual data we have on these bans is that they were handled in the most petty and unprofessional way possible, with people being targeted based off a role in a discord server.

This is where things get tricky from a "Security" standpoint. On the community side of life, we can't share the exact details on the ToS breaking actions as we don't want to specifically teach bad actors what can be detected / give them goals on what to work around.

We've double (and triple) checked with our security team on the actions that many are worried about. They were issued on Friday and some infractions leading to action had taken place over the course of a few months.

Sometimes restrictions/bans don't happen the moment something is detected. Timing isn't always felt to be perfect and leads to quite a bit of FUD (Fear/Uncertainty/Doubt) from innocent players. Ultimately, if you aren't looking to cheat or manipulate the game for purposes that break our rules, you're in the clear.

In the case of using macros, we've issued the statement above, amended our policy, and will be issuing restrictions before bans take place for future infractions.
