One of the fun aspects of this game is the ability for certain players to essentially roleplay as "pro-meteor crash" players. It surfaces in various ways - people forming churches and claiming to worship the meteor, players roleplaying as scientists who want to study it, etc. Ultimately, however, these types of players are left with very few options to impose their "pro-meteor" agenda.

In reality there are only basically two effective paths for pro-meteor players to meet their objectives: 1) Gain control of the government and make it illegal to craft or place lasers or computer labs, or 2) Secure the entire supply to one or more critical resources (e.g. gold) and deny other players the use of it. (Much, much more difficult.) However, no technological means exists for pro-meteor players to advance their agendas.

Enter this new suggestion - the creation of a Gravity Well item. The idea behind a gravity well is that it increases the gravitational pull of the planet, thereby speeding up the time to meteor impact. For example, the placement of a gravity well could accelerate the time to impact by X%. Additionally this item could apply a global movement debuff and/or increase fuel consumption of all vehicles - thereby making it more difficult to collect resources that make lasers or gravity wells. Ideally, it should require Electronics (of course) and probably cost the same amount of resources as a laser and have maybe the same power requirements as a laser.

This item would create competition in the markets over critical resources between pro-meteor crash and pro-meteor destruction factions, while also giving "pro-meteor" players the ability to have a technological/non-political way to impose their agenda. "Pro-destruction" forces could, of course, make the creation of gravity wells illegal, and/or declaim players who are pro-meteor and deactivate the gravity wells as well - thereby allowing pro-destruction societies to enforce their will over those evil meteor lovers.

Anyhow, just some 2 AM thoughts from an Eco addict.

I get the idea, but the ultimate goal of Eco is not to make the meteor hit. You can of course do, but we won't do any supporting measures to that.

You might not know, but once back in Kickstarter there was a tier that could make a nuclear weapon to the destroy the earth as antagonist, which seemed like a fun idea back then, but was taken back on the valid players backleash. Since then priorities have been shifted a lot and while we want to introduce new disasters and other challenges, we don't want to enable players to actively do stuff other than ignorance to speed up the destruction. It's not a PvP game in that sense.
