We expect it to be used mostly for smaller servers, the big ones won't be as interested in using it.

Well, I hope whomever start a server with such configuration says so here, since I am basically waiting on the official stamina system to go play again.
As owner of the biggest one I can say that this is not really true. Big servers live from continous and permanent activity and the playtime of players do not matter as much anymore. We do restrictions to groups specifically, but not to playtimes.

We also made this an optional feature on purpose (as game developer), given we do not think this is how Eco should be played - it's an option for people that want to play it like that.

Isn't your server the one that specifically had to make rules stopping groups and had to increase the laser requirements 100x to make the server work at all?
Of course you depend on permanent player activity, you increased the requirements 100x, and need to constantly check on groups to make sure they are behaving.

Calorie limits would ensure that groups can't dominate servers due to lack of manpower and would make the 100x increase unnecessary, it would automate your workarounds while leveling the playing field.
I said that in my post, but we did not have to - we have chosen to as a server community. And it was not about play times, but about vertical integration. We still have people playing 14 hours a day, groups and singleplayers.

You are also getting line of time wrong. We increased the difficulty because we have so many players, not the other way round, to keep it interesting. This does apply to most of the big servers though and is absolutely nothing special.

The only thing the limit would do, is making the server mostly empty, instead of being a living world.

Dunno why everytime people understand eco wrong, sorry i have now to say something:

Some people miss always that Eco is game for an education class, were it is necessary that the teacher has a plan. so i think the main sever is always planning for the education-groups (US-Government spent some money for this great game).

If you are unhappy, you can make yourself a server were you can edit(h) everything and go public

For me Eco feels sometimes like a mess - when people want to rush the game within hours. Iron must be much harder to learn - dunno - for that you can really play Ark and not a better Version of Mincecraft.
That's not true for a long time. We still do use Eco in education, but the Eco since Kickstarter is developed with edutainment in mind.
