For my own inscrutable purposes, it pleases me to allow knowledge of my powers to escape into your world. Some of that power resides in the form of Black Books, and some is placed into the hands of those called Arcanists.

@KryptechKnight A lack of predestination. A fate unknowable and unresolved. Certain tasks require mortals whose futures I cannot discern. Otherwise the outcome I dislike cannot be changed.

@AlexiBlast An astute question... for a mortal. As one of your limited perceptions can understand things, the spellcraft of the arcanist and the spellcraft of the shadow mage are apparently unrelated. Yet in the very foundation of all that you term "magic," they are of course as one.
