He decided to science rush and try to get thru the tech tree as fast as possible. I decided to build resource production and base defenses as a priority and just bang thru science when I got around to it.

I decided it was time for the PVP part. So I made 10000 land mines and mined the area between our bases, all the ore patches around his base. and then blow up his copper mine and load it with landmines. Then I made forward observation bases with solar panels and radar dishes hidden in the woods around his base to keep an eye on him, also protected by land mines. Then I found his oil and blew up his pump jacks and pipes and, you guessed it, more land mines. But I left the tanks full of oil. Im not completely evil.

I also broke into his main base and sprinkled a few land mines here and there which he still finds now and then. His fault for not building defenses.

So as it stands he is still way ahead of me in the tech tree but is now constantly dealing with the landmine infestation. There are so many landmines between me and him I doubt he'll ever get to my main base without a lot of work.

Oh and I killed him once and looted his Power Armor off him, which I didnt have access too yet, which is nice.

Last of all, he found the best way to deal with the landmine was the flamethrower, which ended up burning down most of the trees near his base causing a ton of extra pollution. Up until then his pollution was low and he wasn't aggroing the biters as much as my monstrous smog beast of a base which is under constant assault by the natives.

Now those lack of defenses are starting to hurt him. Good thing my landmines are keeping the worst at bay for now.

I wonder why Factorio PvP is not so big. (I also have never tried.)

Are there rules, like you cannot attack each other until a certain time limit or tech threshold?? I guess if the win is determined by a tech goal, that keeps things on track...?

There are many configuration options in the PvP scenario: screenshot

So you can create a match to suit the people who are going to play it.

You can also set it up so you don't even fight each other, just working cooperatively from separate factories with independent research.
