338s has made me want to improve our like
341s dev mode tools because because i still
343s have to like drop a bunch of items to

356s is not like just me picking stats and
359s creating them it's like i'm still going
360s through the process of dropping gear and
362s crafting on and everything

406s playing the world junior hockey
407s championships is insane

411s 52-3 or 52-2 or something like that 52
415s wins and two loss something ridiculous

420s and and like there's only like two
422s titles to speak up in that in that range
425s like two two wins or one winners it's i
428s don't know what it is
429s but in the round play they just crush
432s everyone
436s i like weird statistics like that so
440s julian it's been a really good game
441s against finland
443s that's i mean sweden is always a great

456s and usually this tournament happens in
458s between christmas and new year's and so
460s it was a real treat getting the summer
469s we got yeah maybe i just haven't found
471s it they'll be humming me already today

518s how to actually make a legendary uh work

522s the end of the dungeon yeah so if anyone
523s doesn't know you have to actually do a
525s time travel event

527s it kind of hints at it tries to tell you
529s sneaky where it says like
530s go back in time to do it and the like
532s the ability you have in the dungeon is
534s traveling through time
536s it's sort of like it's been the dungeon
537s teaches you what you need to do at the
538s end or tries to anyways
540s might need to be more explicit because
541s we do see that question come up here
542s once in a while
544s but here okay let's start off with a
547s classic
550s here is a little peek at a new an old
554s ability that has been revamped to look
558s pretty nice
565s so the visuals specifically looking at
567s the actual totem itself is what the new
569s thorn totem model looks like
572s so you can see like the little spikey
573s bits going into that better vfx and
575s everything

590s so we're we're in the process of
594s uh so a lot of our totems
596s up until now have uh have basically just
599s been the same model with a couple things
601s slapped on like literally just taking
603s some models from other things and just
604s been like attach it to the model

610s um and so like all the totems were
612s basically the same model with just like
614s a color shift or
617s a couple spikes sticking out of it you
618s know um
621s okay look at the server key so we're
622s taking some time to
624s improve the quality of the models a
626s little bit
627s um give them some better vfx give this
630s better animation it's just sort of a
631s general polish pass that we're doing on
633s uh on a lot of different things and this
635s is a neat one that i thought we'd share
638s and it feels like a leak for you yeah
641s just for you no one else everyone else
643s should close your eyes
653s seems like the 0.9 update will be bulky
655s i mean the the main thing is still
656s multiplayer that's the
658s that's the big thing but we're doing a
659s lot of other little stuff too oh this is
660s a cool this is a cool idol if you've
661s ever seen this before
663s um this is one of one of three unique
665s idols um it's a single slot one so

669s if you have only one of them equipped
672s uh you do more hit damage
675s uh but you can't crit

680s if you're not stacking crit but you're
682s going a hit build anyways

777s so like ev every single enemy in the
779s game has had
781s changes done to its

784s combat feel
785s both in the way it attacks and the way

791s tons of abilities have had vfx

794s this is a cool gloves actually just got

798s play online and i just just picked up

808s it's not really like one big thing

815s it's so many little things that it's
816s it's different for everyone so i've seen

833s one element of it and you're like looks
835s really similar and then like once it all
837s comes together you're like my goodness

843s relates to combat improvements just in
845s general uh to show off a few specific
847s elements of that and how it looks

902s can you talk about what last epoch
904s leagues i think you call them cycles yes
906s are going to be like at all or something
908s you kept under the wrap still i mean so
910s it's it's tricky so it's not really
912s something we're keeping under wraps so
913s to speak but more of the sense that we
915s don't have any concrete details
917s decided on yet
918s um
919s so there's there's nothing that's like
922s it's specifically gonna have these
923s elements so like uh here's a good
925s example our like when we have a dungeon
927s we have to find properties that have a
929s dungeon so dungeon is now this is
931s tangential but a dungeon is um there's a
934s specific extra ability that goes with
936s the d key there's a specific mechanic
938s that that interacts with in the dungeon
940s uh it's usually two floors pseudo random
942s generation
944s um there's and then there's a boss at
946s the end and then there's some sort of
947s unique reward after that so it's it like
950s like that's that's the definition of a
952s dungeon framework there's no i can't
954s give you like a definition framework for
956s what a cycle is going to be
958s um
960s and
962s the the goal is is definitely to get
964s them closer to something like more
966s similar to what poe does if we're
969s looking at like d3 and poe is good um
971s comparison examples
973s uh on that spectrum of d3 to poe it's
976s like closer to poe

979s but obviously they have a huge team uh
983s and and we always like to do things our
985s own way so it's it's hard to describe
987s exactly what it's going to be it's just
988s the best way i can relate to something
989s that is

992s known
994s so like well we'll be looking at
996s obviously maybe not obviously but things
999s like balance changes that you'd see in
1001s just about any major patch um
1003s like new unique items possibly new
1006s skills possible like it's just sort of
1008s more stuff we're gonna add to the game
1010s sort of in every category maybe maybe
1012s there's uh maybe maybe hypothetically
1015s maybe there's a
1016s um
1017s a cycle that like adds some new dungeons
1019s and there's like a new mechanic that
1020s goes with all the dungeons or something
1022s like that or maybe there's a cycle that
1024s like adds a new end game system
1027s you know or maybe there's a cycle that
1028s like completely shuffles
1031s the islands in the uh in the in the
1034s monolith and like like i don't know like
1037s corrupt some of them or something like
1038s that or like adds a new one it takes one
1040s away or something that like mixes that
1042s up in some way maybe there's one that's
1044s like like things like that of that
1046s nature
1048s these are literally things i'm just
1049s making up right now
1050s um
1051s that style
1054s we're trying we're trying to add new
1055s content to the game
1057s in in each cycle so that it changes the
1059s experience for you
1061s hopefully for the better
1066s you give me new stuff to do new stuff to
1067s find new stuff to kill new stuff

1096s um because of the structure of leagues
1099s so to speak like the first league is
1101s just launch really

1116s we've we've been trying to so for the
1118s last couple years we've basically been
1119s doing a patch every three months or so
1122s and pretty big patches that i would
1123s suggest are
1124s uh close to the size that you'd be
1126s looking at for a
1128s a cycle really
1132s just and part of that was because we
1134s wanted to to learn what it was like to
1136s be on this tight dilemma schedule that
1138s that needed to be constantly changing
1140s and all these sorts of things and
1142s and so we wanted to practice for that
1145s um
1150s yeah
1152s but i don't know when we'll see it we
1153s like a lot of that's going to be decided
1156s based on how things go so like
1159s how the next ct multiplayer test goes
1161s will determine when the open multiplayer
1164s testing starts and how that goes will
1165s determine when
1168s um
1169s like 0.9 releases and when when that
1172s uh how well that goes we'll determine
1175s how fast 1.0 releases you know like all
1177s these types of things are
1179s uh dependent on how well the thing
1180s before it goes
1185s like we may we may get to
1187s uh releasing the the first
1190s like one point of launch and go okay we
1192s need a few months to settle things down
1193s a bit before we can actually start
1195s getting cycle content in so what maybe
1197s or maybe things go great we're just like
1198s yeah let's go
1201s you know
1207s this is this is it's so interesting so
1208s i've already gotten used to it i just
1210s looked at the staff and when something's
1211s wrong here that doesn't make any sense
1212s and it's i've already gotten used to it
1214s it's been like a week that it's been in
1216s in the
1217s um
1217s back-end version where
1219s the melee
1222s where you see fun fact if you alt tab
1225s uh when you're in game it will leave the
1228s item tooltips on screen and see i can
1229s move my cursor around and the item
1231s tooltip stays there so you can take easy
1232s screenshots
1234s but this melee physical damage
1238s the the physical is gone it just does
1240s melee damage and the adaptive spell
1241s damage the adaptive's gone it just says
1243s spell damage and they they both work the
1245s way that adaptive spell damage works now
1247s it just says melee image and spell
1248s damage now some of them do have specific
1251s elements that go with them but
1253s almost every single one of them is just
1256s generic now uh it makes buildings so
1258s much more like it opens up so many
1261s things that um i get why we did it
1264s initially but it wasn't working for what
1266s we did why we wanted it initially and
1269s i'm really glad that we did this
1273s really glad let's go get some keys

1299s the game going to the same place price
1300s on release as it is now
1302s currently we have no plans to change the
1304s price structure of the game

1310s i can't guarantee that nothing changes
1313s up or down but uh right right now our
1315s plan is and i'd be really shocked if it
1317s changed i just don't want to promise
1319s something that i don't really have
1320s control over
1322s but yeah like it's
1324s we have no plans on changing the pricing
1326s structure
1329s we've we've been through a few uh we've
1331s been through a lot of planning with it
1333s over the last few years and we're really
1334s happy with where it is
1343s helmet
1344s not happening
1346s all right lots of questions here uh do
1348s you have power creep in the back of your
1349s head when you add new stuff to the game
1351s absolutely uh and any idea how to avoid
1353s it we should do so for example d3 and pv
1355s both suffer greatly from it
1357s power creep's a really tricky thing um
1359s because they're by no means the only
1361s games in the world that that that suffer
1362s from this like it happens in everything
1364s i was
1365s um
1367s one of my friends telling me references
1369s to magic a little bit um
1371s one of my friends has a magic deck that
1374s requires creatures that have one power
1377s so really small creatures
1378s um and anything that's more than one is
1381s just useless
1383s and
1384s late and the most recent set that just
1386s finished spoiling yesterday that's gonna
1387s come out in a few weeks there's only two
1390s creatures in the entire set that are the
1392s right color that have one power only two
1395s in the whole set
1397s um
1399s five years ago there would have been a
1401s dozen you know
1403s um it's just everything's just getting a
1404s little bit bigger things that were one
1406s one before or now two one or two two
1408s like it's just like it's even just
1409s getting a little bit stronger
1411s and it happens it happens in in just
1413s about every every game that gets
1415s frequent updates like that it's really
1417s tricky to avoid
1419s um
1421s and we've been trying like we've even
1423s seen it a little bit with us already
1424s um
1425s like we added legendary items and
1428s power levels went up we've we've been
1430s we've we've had sort of a general plan
1432s for power levels at 1.0 that we've been
1435s aiming for since we started development
1437s um and so like it's it seemed like power
1440s creep but because like that's the point
1441s we've been aiming for in the first place
1443s it's it's actually what we always
1444s intended to be the level so it's a
1446s little a little weird um
1449s but yeah the one of the ways that i
1451s think power creep happens is
1453s there's so many things that it's hard to
1456s incorporate
1458s new
1459s mechanically interesting and different
1460s things without just making them better
1463s it's and it's really tricky to do that
1466s um
1468s i i think that we have one very distinct
1471s advantage
1473s um
1474s over actually both poe and d3 is in that
1477s a lot of the power
1480s um
1481s and we're trying to dial this back a
1483s little bit but it's gonna be there
1484s anyways is that a lot of a lot of
1486s functionality and power is isolated to
1488s specific skill trees so so this is not
1491s directly connected to this in any way
1495s um
1498s and and because that we can make really
1500s fine changes
1502s um
1503s like okay so a good example in poe if
1505s they release a new support gem
1507s it has to function well with every
1509s single
1510s maybe not everything because there's
1511s always exceptions but with most of the
1514s um
1515s abilities that are out there like uh
1518s there's like the greater multiple
1519s projectiles or whatever um
1522s what if they what if they if they added
1524s a
1525s mega multiple projectiles that was like
1528s it's it's ten of them or something you
1530s know um
1532s and i look like an idiot they've already
1533s done that i just didn't know about it
1534s but anyways uh it it it affects the
1537s balance of every single projectile
1539s ability in the game
1541s but whereas we we can just put it
1544s on a single node in a single tree and it
1545s only affects that tree
1548s um so i think the compartmentalization
1550s is a good tool for us
1552s to be able to
1554s balance um
1556s and add new mechanics without
1558s having to worry too much about knock-on
1559s effects for power creep
1564s and i think that's the key part of the
1565s key is is having
1566s mechanically unique and new things to
1568s add
1569s that aren't necessarily just more power
1571s that's a good idea
1584s do a bunch of questions here that should
1585s probably catch up on so we're going to
1587s do that oh run
1589s uh well secondary question what uh what
1592s form are you anticipating your online
1594s platform to look like at this stage the
1596s rpg market has quite a few online mode
1599s versions there's poe d2 system where you
1601s basically
1602s where it's basically bubbled worlds
1604s you have d4 coming out where it's shared
1606s world concept or grim dawn's fully
1608s instanced invite only online system um
1612s i think the the most similar thing
1615s uh
1618s the most similar thing
1620s will likely be path of exile i think
1624s um
1629s yeah because you're gonna be able to
1630s you're like we're
1631s we're planning on having town scenes
1633s where you can see multiple people
1635s um but having when you go into the world
1637s it's instance
1640s with just your party
1642s can we hope for something to have a
1644s weapon conversion mechanic similar to
1646s javelin
1647s or like how shurikens can be converted
1649s to chakram for blade dancer uh like if
1652s you deal with daggers then the skill
1653s converts
1655s uh them
1657s into
1658s i'm not even trying to pronounce that
1659s adding chain related sub mechanic i mean
1662s we do already have
1664s things like that so i don't see why we
1666s wouldn't
1667s maybe add more

1674s there's no specific plans for that
1675s specific thing but i mean that style of
1678s mechanic is already in the game so i
1680s don't see why you can add more things of
1681s that style of mechanic i guess
1688s oh could you guesstimate how many new
1690s skills are coming in point nine if none
1692s what about revamped skills so skills is

1695s are pretty late in the development cycle
1697s generally so

1701s right now there's no new skills actively
1704s that have been created yet

1733s skills pipeline basically shut down for

1742s um like balanced tweaking i wanna say
1745s not really revamping
1746s um and there's been a lot of like
1750s uh just making things more clear making
1753s things work better
1754s there's been a lot of little stuff like
1756s that that has a huge impact when you put
1759s it all together
1768s yeah we just we just spun our skills
1770s development back up last week
1773s and it wasn't for the patch

1947s list and shaman specifically is
1949s totems as a mechanic

1952s that theming everything that goes with
1954s it
1956s it would be pretty surprising if we did
1960s uh totems on another class
1963s uh i could see like the only way i'd see
1966s totems on another class like likely
1967s actually showing up
1969s is um
1971s in some sort of like item that could put
1973s a totem down on any class or something
1975s like that not happening um
1979s that'd be like theme for shaman
1981s and best on something but like you can
1982s use it on anything
1984s that sort of thing
1990s or like give a shaman totem skills to
1992s another class something like that might
1994s be cool
1995s but i i think you know shaman's sean is
1998s the totem spec
2000s at least for now
2002s even even though like the other classes
2004s that
2005s we've
2007s sort of talked about and said that we
2008s liked more than the other
2010s potential classes for follow-up classes
2012s you know the one like nothing's set but
2014s like the ones were like oh that's a
2016s winner let's let's make sure to keep

4396s ubiquitous sometimes that's through
4398s adding other options sometimes that's

4408s or like the core functionality what it
4410s does but more just like um
4415s keeping the feel the same
4417s but reducing the power a little bit i
4419s guess is the
4421s is the target there sometimes or or just
4423s adding in other options that are
4426s competitive with it

4431s subtle so sometimes that's by um

4438s certain abilities that are really good
4440s to go with certain builds that share a

6854s build guide like a video build guide
6856s says for this build you're going to use
6858s num lock autocast trick and that you
6860s have to do it for this build and
6862s be clear everyone who makes those guides
6864s and has those things in it i'm not
6865s saying stop doing that because if that's
6867s how the build works go ahead do what
6868s you're gonna do um but i'm saying the
6870s way we designed the game that makes it
6872s so that that's the right thing to say is
6874s the problem so it's our mistake

6906s what's gonna happen but i think
6907s personally it's
6908s it's the best
6910s option that i've heard so far
6912s uh right now for example detonating
6914s arrows scales four percent increased
6916s damage per point of dexterity
6919s if we change that to say
6922s one percent in one percent sorry if we
6924s change that to say one percent more
6927s damage per point of dexterity
6929s um
6930s it causes multiplicative scaling
6932s where
6933s um like dexterity becomes very valuable
6936s and the primary source of dexterity is
6938s on your gear so that pushes that damage
6940s scaling onto your gear more now maybe
6942s it's
6943s putting other inherent scalings in nodes
6946s as well
6948s maybe it's putting things in a node that
6951s says
6952s like okay here's an example um
6957s uh here's so you deal increase damage
6959s the next damaging non-channel skill
6961s after shifting but maybe this instead
6963s says
6964s um it's
6967s uh
6968s i don't know one percent increased
6970s damage
6971s uh per crit chance
6973s or per dodge chance or per you know
6976s something that scales off another stat
6978s that you those are bad examples actually
6979s i just realized but um
6982s maybe it's something that scales off of
6983s something you get primarily from gear
6986s or
6987s uh maybe it specifically looks at a gear
6988s slot so there's certain abilities that
6990s that like in forge guard that look at
6991s specific gear slots so maybe this is
6993s like um
6995s uh you get increased damage equal to the
6998s increased move speed from your boots
7002s that's cool right um and suddenly that
7004s that damage
7006s it scales as you get better gear so you
7009s put the point in
7010s and that point initially gives you a
7012s certain amount at like level 10 you only
7014s have 10 increase movement on your boots
7016s great ten percent increase damage per
7017s point um and then by level 100 maybe
7020s you've got 50 increased damage increase
7022s movement speed on your boots which is
7023s also not 50 increase damage so this so
7025s this node scales with your boots as well
7028s with your gear as well and so things
7029s like that
7030s to get the scaling
7032s of the damage to go through your gear
7035s um and be dependent on your gear i think
7037s is important just so that it it
7040s i think that's the way we do it um and
7042s it's still up in the air it's still
7043s being decided on still being worked on
7044s um
7047s but that's that's that's what i think is
7049s a a
7050s front runner style and i really want to
7052s be clear this is style not specific
7054s examples
7057s uh something po we did lately was take
7059s over hosting a peewee wiki any chance
7061s you guys would consider hosting an
7063s official wiki it's a nice quality of
7064s life not to have ads everyone looking up
7067s game info yeah ads suck i agree they're
7071s really it's really helpful for people
7073s who are running these these sites and
7075s put a ton of work into these sites
7077s um
7078s and it's like it can be someone's job
7080s sometimes especially people who are
7081s running like solo running a site
7082s something like that i think it's
7084s uh like
7086s yeah it's it's really important for some
7088s people and i think there's different
7089s types of ads too like some ads are so
7092s intrusive like there's sometimes you go
7093s to if you're looking like a recipe
7095s on a recipe website you like like i take
7097s screenshots just to be like
7099s my screen is four percent information
7101s and 96 advertisements you go come on
7104s guys like i'll look at some ads but like
7107s give me enough room to see the content

7110s uh so i there's responsible ways to do

7114s i think and i hey
7116s whatever um anyways point is um
7120s rant over i uh i don't think we have any
7123s plans to
7125s uh to to take over the wiki at the
7128s moment
