582s don't you guys just throw together a
584s dozen build changing uniques and throw
586s us non-ct's a bone instead of making

598s uniques are not super easy to make oh
600s first let's start there there's there's
602s a lot that goes into making unique um
605s there's lots of different stages some
607s stages of making uniques are really easy
610s uh and some stages of making uniques are
611s really easy compared to others so
613s there's um

616s like there's there's the
618s ideation stage where you're just like
620s picking what it's going to be
622s um
622s and that's surprisingly involved
624s actually just getting like the exact
626s stats that are going to show up on it
627s even though the exact that's just like
629s the rough stats and just getting that
631s laid out where it's not gonna break the
632s game obviously and it's gonna be
634s exciting and it's gonna like all the all
637s these things just getting that
638s decided upon
640s is surprisingly involved time wise oh we
643s got a bunch of stuff oh deadlifts has

669s uh the i think the easiest part about
671s making a unique is actually like taking
673s the is getting the functionality running
675s for the most part sometimes there's
676s really difficult things to do for it if
678s it's a really specialized feature but

681s lots of the time ooh a temporal center

684s lots of times just getting the item from
687s this is what i want to it's in the game
688s and it works is actually pretty easy

692s big cdr that's nice um

697s and then there's the art as well which
699s can happen pretty quick but uh
704s there's there's a lot of other things
706s that that go on at the same time
708s um and then what probably takes the the
710s longest part of the process actually
712s is um
714s balancing tuning and testing

718s um when i say time i'm also not
720s referring to
721s like just number of days i i guess
724s referring to time more of uh from a man
726s hours perspective or a person hours or
729s uh development time perspective so like
732s how many
733s hours is spent in total so if if 10
736s people spend one hour each that's 10
737s hours or if one person spends 10 hours
739s on it that's 10 hours um
742s and because at this stage you get a lot
743s more we get a lot of people involved in
745s it um you end up with a lot of time
747s investment
749s and so quite often we do like to do a
750s bunch of them all together
752s um
753s but the key thing is that if we did
755s decide to do like a unique pack
757s um
759s it it also
761s delays all the other things we're
762s working on
767s because we we'd like to
769s i guess
771s limit the limit the number of things
773s you're working on simultaneously
775s um
778s because quite often working on like
779s eight things at the same time like
781s context switching tapes takes a long
782s time fun fact about uh
784s like little aside here context switching
787s takes a lot of brain power compared to
789s keeping on the same uh thread so there
792s was a um
794s a jeopardy contestant i don't remember
796s his name not ken jennings but like the
798s next
799s highest total winnings and but then he's
802s also the guy that won the most
805s per episode he was on so he didn't last
807s as long as ken jennings but he won more
809s per episode um can't remember his name
811s but he he pioneered
813s he like quit his job
815s and practiced for a couple years where
817s he pioneered a technique where he would
819s um bounce around the board and up until
821s this point everyone would get in the
823s category they like and just run the
825s whole category down
826s but it worked really well because if
827s you're in a category you're good at and
829s you can run the board down um you can
830s get them all lots of points really
832s quickly but at the same time everyone
833s else gets used to that category and gets
836s comfortable and starts answering them
837s and they can jump in and steal
839s and so this guy he
841s practiced jeopardy questions by context
843s switching really quick by bouncing
844s around categories was never the same
846s category twice
847s um
848s and and this led to a technique where by
850s jumping around and context switching so
852s much
853s and all the other contestants were just
855s sitting there confused and they couldn't
857s get a handle on it and
859s he would just run away with games like
861s crazy
862s he did he did quite a few other things
863s as well it wasn't just that but that was
865s like the big thing and it actually had
867s this ripple effect throughout the
869s jeopardy uh the world is as as a whole
872s where suddenly everyone started
874s practicing this way and doing this it's
876s common practice now in jeopardy and he
877s changed the whole face of how jeopardy
879s is played which i think is really cool
880s that a game that have been around for
881s that long can get like an entire
884s strategy revamp with no rule changes
886s like someone just discovered something
888s new i think it's really cool
890s um
890s it's like someone discovers a new
892s technique in a speedrunning glitch or
893s something you know
894s anyways um
896s what am i getting at here so it's a
898s similar thing with work with with um
901s with game development anything really
903s context switching takes time
905s um
906s and so question we try to limit that if
909s possible and so we'll try and do a whole
911s bunch of of items all at once
914s and it's
916s there are things you can put on the back
917s burner and just be like okay well every
918s day i'll work a little bit on this as
920s sort of like a cool down or something
921s that's easy to do and that works too but
923s um
925s we we we like to bundle things together
927s when we can
930s i was right it was saint jude's
931s children's research hospital ha ha

939s that's that's one reason why we and and
941s okay then on top of that as well um
944s quite often you can get there's there's
947s there's very few knock-on effects for
949s unique items
951s so we can quite often get quite a lot of
955s unique items done near the end of a
956s patch cycle
957s and
960s it doesn't really cause problems
962s elsewhere in the game very often
964s sometimes it does but normally we can do
966s it without without big issues so we we
968s like to shift that towards the end of
970s the of the patch cycle now i will say
972s that we are going to be in a longer
973s patch cycle here which is i mean like
976s um
977s things may change so i could be wrong
978s with us maybe we'll do something but
980s right now the plan is not to um
984s release a sort of like a a larger
987s hotfix patch mid-patch cycle if that
989s makes any sense
991s um
991s and i know it sucks to have a weight
993s like that and maybe we'll talk about
994s doing something but right now there's no
995s plans for it as far as i know
999s um
1001s i i think of all the things we could
1002s release in something like that
1004s uh yeah
1006s um
1009s uniques i think would be a good
1011s candidate
1013s um
1017s just doing the patch in general is
1019s tricky as well so um
1022s a lot of time
1024s goes into
1025s producing an appropriate build candidate
1027s a build release and and all these things
1029s and like stability testing for releasing
1031s patches
1035s and if we can avoid taking all the time
1036s for that
1038s that saves us time in the long run so
1040s it's it's sort of a balancing act of
1042s what do we need to get done what do we
1044s want to get done and what can we get
1046s done
1047s and um

1050s the total time we have between now and
1051s launch is like
1054s it's fairly limited it's fairly finite
1055s and so we have to
1056s look at all the things
1058s that um
1061s if we're gonna do something like that
1062s that's that's gonna take up some amount
1064s of that time between now and launch um
1066s that's going to add total time to the to
1068s the development like
1069s like hours of development time uh
1073s it needs something else needs to get cut
1075s or it's going to push the deadline you
1076s know and um we don't really want to do
1079s either of those things
1085s so i'd say it's unlikely but possible
1091s yeah that you okay uniques are easy to
1093s make quote yes um
1095s i probably should have said uniques are
1096s easy to make relative to many other
1098s things
1106s there's a lot of other things that are
1107s way harder to make
1115s i was probably referring to the
1116s implementation side of it mostly
1118s which is generally the easiest part
1126s but i don't know we'll see like we i
1127s don't think we've had uh a patch cycle
1129s this long so things could change i don't
1131s know

1171s i i think uh the easy answer
1174s is like one of the
1176s uh one of the new mastery classes
1178s um so for me to be the falconer
1180s personally
1186s is there a more interesting answer to

1196s for me it's definitely the falconer
1198s uh little things like this like 15 plus
1200s is gonna go away and it's gonna just be
1201s the actual number that's really exciting

1206s we have uh we okay here's something
1210s we've recently
1211s here we go
1212s we recently uh changed the way
1215s we do
1217s uh network communications for
1220s ailment
1222s statuses and ailment information in
1224s general
1226s and this comes along with some other
1228s changes to ailments as well that allow
1230s this this change to happen
1232s which is going to
1233s uh
1235s sort of a roundabout way of be saying
1237s we're probably gonna wait gonna have a
1239s way of fixing the
1240s poison problem
1243s so uh the poison problem is that every
1245s single stack of poison reduces the
1247s target's poison resistance
1250s and in multiplayer those stacks can get
1252s incredibly high incredibly fast even
1254s single player they can ramp up really
1256s fast and this like self multiplicative
1259s effect of each stack making every stack
1262s stronger
1263s um
1266s causes some
1267s scaling issues compared to other
1269s ailments
1270s um so this this these new systems we
1272s have for both
1274s communicating across networks how many
1276s stacks everything has and also
1278s um
1281s uh just just changing the structure of
1283s the element code in general has has
1285s given us the ability to fix the poison
1287s problem
1289s so i think that's exciting as well um
1291s it's also going to give us some
1293s new tools to make other elements a
1295s little bit more interesting and unique
1297s so the one thing that we hear quite a
1298s bit is hey
1300s bleed and ignite are basically just
1303s um damage type conversions of each other
1306s they're exactly the same thing there's
1307s no difference
1308s and
1312s now we're gonna have a way to
1316s bring a little bit more
1318s interesting mechanics to those
1321s more unique mechanics make them feel a
1323s little distinct have them function
1324s differently
1331s uh what is the total time uh between now
1334s and launch if that amount of time is
1336s finite great question
1339s uh i'm not going to answer that i'm
1340s sorry
1341s and and okay so technically it's not
1343s finite really um
1347s well okay it's
1348s it's finite but not exact how about that
1351s um
1352s it's an unknown finite amount
1357s we have a goal and we want to hit that
1359s goal
1360s um if the game's not ready by that goal
1361s we'll push it and release it when it's
1363s ready um
1365s but everything we do plans for hitting
1367s that goal
1380s so yeah we we
1383s we always want to be going as fast as we
1385s can and you know like get everything
1387s done as quickly as possible and like
1390s we want to launch the game now but you
1392s know we're still missing some features
1393s it wouldn't exactly be a finished game
1395s if we did right now

1417s uh will achievements view thing if
1419s you've got a question for me don't
1420s forget to put at last default game in
1422s the question i'll be more likely to see
1424s it's a little slow day today because
1425s there's something else going on in the
1427s world you know who knows what that is

1447s my goodness there's a few enemies here
1451s one or two you know here and there

1480s uh an increase in monster density it's
1483s always fun to clear lots of monsters at
1485s once in other arpg's um
1488s i i think that there will be so there's
1490s certain zones where there's a lot more
1491s monsters than others and especially
1492s noticeable in monolith there's some
1494s density issues in certain areas in
1496s certain situations and part of that's
1498s because the monsters are added
1500s procedurally and sometimes those
1501s procedural systems have gaps
1504s so yeah there will be
1506s changes to that system to make it more
1507s consistent that will be increasing the
1509s density in certain situations
1514s but i wouldn't say yes to like an across
1516s the board yeah it's just going to go up
1517s or anything like that

1584s there's a void version conversion in uh

1600s it's less awesome on uh forge guard but
1603s there is a version where it uses a
1604s hammer throw
1606s to proc it that's really strong as well
1610s also personally uses javelin to proc it
1612s that's really strong

1642s local saves like you you won't you won't
1644s move your characters that you have on
1645s your computer on to our servers we're
1647s not going to do that

1657s dangerous misguided eyes there's a few

1938s those things being repurposed a little
1940s bit and tweaked and adjusted and maybe
1942s brought back in a slightly different
1943s form maybe it's not an item maybe it's a
1945s node maybe it's a set bonus maybe it's

2027s development process of getting any one
2029s of them made sometimes like one item
2031s will
2032s have just like one little
2033s theme from it get turned into another a
2035s whole different item
2044s weapon swap with teleport on the swap

2107s conditioned i do too so on multiplayer

2110s just you're so conditioned to open a
2113s chest
2114s um and like it glows and sparkles and
2115s you can click it everything still and so
2117s it's it's this like
2119s you're just so used to it you just click
2120s them even though you know nothing's
2122s coming out you still click it

2137s picked up a pair of those

2215s but it is a design decision of why we
2216s don't have weapon swap

2224s networking stuff too but um
2240s i do remember ah i i don't remember the
2243s conversation well enough to go into all

2246s part of it had to do with snapshot
2248s problems
2249s just making snapshotting even easier and
2251s um
2252s making it basically required um and then
2255s ending up with the burden of optimal
2256s play being too intense
2261s uh it was a big was that was that was
2263s part of it there was something else that
2264s was really major too i can't remember
2264s what it was
2266s it was a really good reason it was a
2267s really good reason i'm sorry i can't
2270s remember what it was
2271s um
2274s i was sad but i agreed with it
2277s um
2280s trying i'm sorry
2282s the
2283s we are working to to handle uh
2285s snapchatting stuff more as well so

2290s reasons can go away
2291s but um there was something else that was
2293s enough even without snapshotting
2301s because that that is something that's
2302s going to be gone

2311s the throwing tag for skills was there

2315s put towards thrown weapon types

2323s um we kind of wanted i guess throwing
2326s skills to be possible as um

2336s you could still do something else with
2337s it now that the part of the big thing

2542s doing with healing hands would be really
2544s broken in multiplayer
2547s and so we wanted to be able to test it
2549s and get a feel for it as we were making
2551s that skill tree in a multiplayer
2553s environment to make sure it was
2555s fun and useful and not mandatory and you
2558s know all these things
2559s in um
2561s in in a multiple environment or first
2562s making so you have to remake it this is
2564s that like not doubling up on time spent
2567s issue again
2569s uh so yeah there's there's things that
2571s we've intentionally held off on specific
2574s for that and then other things that
2574s we're preparing for multiplayer so the
2576s the as i was talking about before the

3506s action marks can only wield one weapon
3508s but at the same time they get
3510s uh they get an aura built in so you get
3512s one aura for free just for being an
3513s acting merc and then um you could you
3516s can get two you get one more for having
3518s a weapon so you can get two auras
3520s there's other ways to get them too but
3521s that's the main two ways that most
3522s people get them but then act five marks
3524s yeah you can dual wield so you can get
3525s two of the weapon
3527s auras which are generally actually
3528s stronger than the built-in ones and um
3532s it was
3533s that was
3534s it was it was a really
3537s elegant solution to the problem of
3539s only act 2 merck survival
3542s i think that's one of the biggest things
3544s that dlv2 suffers from after
3546s being played without updates for
3549s decades literally um
3552s is is it's kind of solved like

3560s archetype and i can probably tell you
3562s what your stat distribution is in like
3564s in your ideal stat distribution

3569s it's almost exactly the same for every

5095s it too but i don't think it's going to

5105s the dnd set is it's technically the same
5107s thing right like it's a different
5108s franchise but the
5110s the overall theming in the general
5112s setting is so similar that it feels like
5115s it could just be another magic plane

5119s show so i have a ton of um dnd cards in
5122s in my decks i've a whole deck that's a
5125s venture into the dungeon deck
5126s um i love it but i guess just because it
5129s feels like it could be magic to me like

5134s warhammer fantasy i think would fit
