490s comment is their plan to look at the
492s current sets and rework them

506s sets are really interesting feast
507s because there's this
510s there's so few sets that i think are
513s done the way that i like sets to be done
515s personally in any arpg that i can think
517s of so few it is really difficult to make
521s work

524s and i think the important thing that
527s sets bring to the table is
529s this um
532s like this this extra restriction or
535s constraint in the puzzle
537s that is picking out your gear
539s and i know that might seem like a bad
541s thing but i think it makes things more
543s interesting where you're like okay well
544s if i want to get this bonus it has to be
547s these two slots
548s which
549s maybe it's for a build that say um
552s so you doing a throwing build
553s and historically there's a pair of
555s gloves that works really well with like
557s basically every throwing build
559s um
560s and you really want these gloves it's
562s the classic choice you know they're
564s solid they're good there's a lot of
565s damage but there's the set item
568s the set comes along and it's like
570s suddenly there's these there's these
572s gloves as part of the set that are
574s really good
575s and they are uh the set bonus is
578s actually worth more than the gloves but
581s the gloves have a
584s um
585s the the bonus the gloves have is a
586s gameplay change like say it's it's one
588s less mana cost to throwing attacks and
591s it's like just enough that the sustain
593s it changes the sustain rate for your
595s attacks and the build doesn't really
596s work without that sustain so you then
598s have to go outside of the usual slot and
601s find something maybe less optimal
603s to um
605s to to account for that
607s and that might seem it's not a fantastic
610s example kind of coming with stuff on my
611s head um and that might seem like a bad
613s thing but that um
615s cascading effect because i want to use
617s this it affects what i'm going to put in
619s other slots
621s and it changes it restricts my decision
622s making so i have to get a little bit
624s creative with it and pick
626s um
627s off off meta or less classical choices i
630s think is really healthy and good
634s um the one of the problems comes in when
636s you have sets that are too big
639s and
641s uh suddenly there's
643s like
645s more than half of your gear is just
647s decided upon because you're like well i
649s want the set bonus
650s so
651s i know what my helmet chest legs belts
656s um
657s and boots are all gonna be just because
660s i'm using this set it's there's no
661s decision making there at all
664s and i think i think that's an issue that
666s comes with setups which is why a lot of
667s our sets are very small so i think we
669s have that one taking care of no problem
671s um
677s and i think keeping them interesting
679s relevant and and not
682s not making them just an auto pick but
684s also not making them useless is a very
686s fine line to walk
690s um
692s because set items do take up more than
693s one slot they do sort of
696s um
697s have this the second half of them is
698s that they
699s reduce the amount of decisions you get
701s to make in your in your gearing puzzle i
705s think it makes those decisions more
706s interesting if done right
708s um but it does reduce the decisions
711s or combine decisions together they might
713s be more accurate um
717s and since we have this is a struggle
719s between uniques and sets because set
720s items really are just unique items that
722s have an extra special bonus for using
724s two specific uniques together
727s or more multiple units um
730s and and so right now we've kind of
733s unfortunately left set items because
735s there are way more unique items as well
737s as problems with them
738s unique items are
740s in general a lot better and there are
742s way more unique items that are popular
745s and useful and
746s you know
748s it might seem like we're
750s just saying like oh yes well sets our
752s uniques are better than sets and we'll
753s just leave it at that and and for now
756s that is the way it is um
759s but that's more of a we don't have a
761s perfect solution for our we don't even
764s have a really good solution
765s um that we're prepared to
767s roll out for seven we've got a few ideas
770s and a few things that i think are very
771s promising but none of them are done
773s enough
781s so just sort of leaving sets as
785s niche okay in some situations items and
789s um
792s they definitely will get changes we just
794s don't know what those are going to be
795s yet and we don't want to put um
798s too much time and effort into making
800s those changes if we think they might be
802s uh undone or redone you know
806s so we'll see we'll see what happens with
807s settings
813s i really hope that it's something to do
815s with a dungeon mechanic how there's like
818s the unique dungeon and then there's like
820s the exalted dungeon there's like the set
822s dungeon and
824s like i think that would be really cool

836s newer set items are more uh individually
839s strong like uh for more set the power of
842s the end doesn't seem to be concentrated
844s in the set bonus it's intentional we
846s might see more of that in the future uh
848s for that one it was a bit of an
850s experiment so that's something you also
851s may see is experiments on sets like
856s and and they may not pan out they may
857s get rolled back they may get changed

870s uniques that are coming later that were
872s mentioned in the patch are there any

945s keys drop rates didn't see this one

951s drop rates outside of some rng streaks
954s uh many people are reporting them not
956s dropping even from bosses

959s yeah so i'm there's
962s there was a bug initially with
965s uh drop rates of beats
968s um
969s where it was it was only doing the
970s sanctum it wasn't doing the other two
974s and that was the problem
976s um i don't think there are any existing
978s bugs anymore with it
980s excuse me it's possible it might be
983s um
987s i think that we'll want to see
991s i i think we'll want a little more data
992s on it before we make any wide sweeping
994s changes to it um
1000s i think that the
1001s drop rates are
1003s probably pretty good
1005s and that a lot of the
1008s more prominent forum posts we're seeing
1011s might not have
1012s as accurate data as the people posting
1014s and think that the data is and i'm
1017s trying i'm warning you very carefully so
1018s i want to say that i don't think there's
1019s anything malicious or intentional going
1021s on
1022s but
1023s um collecting data on things like drop
1026s rates or anything that's chance based
1029s unless you're actually like
1032s um
1033s recording it and timing it and getting
1036s like actual data for it if it's if it's
1038s just oh i played for about this amount
1040s of time and i i recall getting about
1043s this many um
1046s you know like
1049s that is very useful information
1052s uh definitely because how it feels is
1054s just as useful is as what's actually
1056s happening for sure
1058s um but i think we might be getting a
1060s little bit of
1061s um
1062s skewed data based on opinions or
1065s feelings or like what
1067s is sort of coming out and also based on
1070s um
1073s the there's another thing that's maybe
1075s causing the data to skew a little bit as
1077s well um
1079s a lot of people are jumping in with
1081s characters that are already level 100 or
1084s are already level 80 plus at least
1086s and
1088s um
1089s are ready to do those things immediately
1091s and we've kind of designed the
1095s drop rates around
1097s the normal leveling curve and and and
1100s how a player would level normally
1101s through the game and get to these points
1104s and at the start of like a league and
1105s everything like that we're trying to get
1107s those
1108s those numbers set up properly for the
1110s for like the 1.0 experience
1115s um
1119s and i know i know that can be
1120s frustrating as well um but i think it's
1123s healthier for the game in the long run
1124s if we do that
1126s um and we do make concessions and
1128s sometimes change drop rates and
1129s balancing of things slightly
1131s because we know that there's a lot of
1132s people that are in the situation and we
1133s want people who are playing and testing
1135s early to have a good experience
1137s so sometimes we'll kind of meet in the
1138s middle with things like that as well
1142s um
1147s i want to be really clear here i'm not
1148s saying that anyone is lying about any of
1150s the information they're putting out
1151s about how many keys they're finding um
1156s i definitely don't think that's
1157s happening i don't think someone's going
1158s to be like okay i'll drop this number by
1160s two to make it sound worse or anything
1162s like that
1163s um at all
1166s um
1169s and and i also want to be clear that the
1171s numbers might be too low still if that
1172s is possible
1174s um after changing the after the b patch
1176s we want to let things settle a little
1178s bit and get a little bit more
1178s information and data on it
1184s before we make any more changes we also
1186s do have

1189s the the model of changes that are coming
1191s here in
1193s hopefully next patch i think
1194s next optics um not nexontex hotfix um
1198s which should actually in a roundabout
1201s way make it so you end up with more
1204s slightly more uh keys i think

1210s i think you'll end up doing more bosses
1212s like you'll end up killing bosses more
1214s frequently and i think that'll mean

1563s know how best to scale up the damage

1567s uh i can see my global modifiers on the
1569s character page but at my current state i
1571s can't see what the flat damage of the
1573s ability is true
1574s flight damage is currently available on
1576s some third-party sites like i think tank
1579s lab has it and last epoch tools i think
1581s both of them have the base damage skills
1583s um i could be wrong there might be one
1585s more
1586s uh
1591s can't see what the flat damage the
1592s ability is physical dps versus fire dps
1594s dot versus ignite tick versus bleed
1597s efficiency rates of dots without this
1599s information i don't know if flat is
1600s better or multiplicative modifiers hit
1602s damage or dot there's also no indication
1605s that attack speed adjusts the hit second
1607s rate which apparently is hugely
1608s significant
1610s judgment is another great example my
1611s skill shows 18 000 dps uh how much of
1614s that is up front hit of judgment versus
1616s the dot from consecration
1618s not much is the dot uh is it both if so
1621s how uh how is it possibly both does it
1623s calculate the amount of time that
1624s consecration will run after the
1626s spellcast and adds judgment front load
1628s damage and divide it all up in a per
1630s second rate yes that's exactly what it
1631s does uh what all of this means is that
1634s even after 130 plus hours i still have
1637s to pick up nearly all the gear that i
1639s can that can work for my character and
1641s swap items in hopes the dps number is
1644s telling you the truth
1645s which it's not uh which is doubly
1647s annoying because as a dual wielder i
1649s have to swap weapons in both slots and
1651s look for improvements
1653s all this makes incredible loot filter
1656s uh
1657s somewhat useless except to hide
1658s non-class matching items yeah great
1661s question lots of good examples there for
1662s sure
1663s um i was adding in some stuff that
1665s wasn't all the question in case anyone's
1667s listening um

1670s short answer yes so the very first
1672s question is yes there we do have more

1742s um all that information and where it's
1743s coming from and and what we what we do
1745s with it and why we show what we show and
1747s all sort of stuff
1749s because this is a great question and um
1751s i know it's i know it's something that a
1752s lot of people ask especially people who
1754s are
1754s um
1757s like
1758s usually usually people who ask this
1760s question or questions like this are
1761s players who are
1763s um i would say medium new players
1766s who have lots of rpg experience or just
1770s um
1772s lots of
1773s like gaming fantasy rpg gaming
1775s experience type stuff
1778s generally who ask these questions that's
1780s not exclusively true at all
1782s um
1788s the dps number the primary role of the
1790s dps number on the skills bar right now
1792s this number here this damage per second
1794s is to give
1796s um
1798s less experienced players
1801s a uh a good
1803s idea not great a good idea of what's
1806s going to be an improvement for their for
1808s their character
1810s easy
1812s so it's supposed to be a quick sort of
1814s like
1815s um okay is
1817s like is this helmet going to be an
1818s upgrade like let's check our puncture
1820s 3938 flip it out okay it didn't affect
1823s it
1824s okay that one it went up that time
1826s you know like okay that's that was
1827s better so maybe i'll switch it out
1833s yeah i should probably actually look at
1834s these helmets and see which one they
1835s actually want to do
1837s if any of them
1840s i don't know the dancing straights or
1841s that yeah
1844s i actually do kind of like that one lots
1845s of defense on there
1848s dex is nice anyway sorry um so it's it's
1851s it's supposed to give you a good rough

1860s and it's it's a great place to start
1862s it's a great way to
1864s get you learning about what sorts of
1865s things to look for what sorts of things
1867s have big impacts on there
1873s now because of the way our skill
1876s system is set up a lot of a lot of
1880s things that skills can do
1884s the dps calculations don't understand
1889s um
1890s and we try and we try and do things that
1892s emulate
1894s it and approximate it and uh to get a
1897s good idea and we do we set each one
1898s those up manually
1900s so there's there's a script that runs
1902s the um
1904s the changes that happen to a skill
1906s through the skill tree and through
1908s passive tree and through items you have
1910s and all sorts of things it's called a
1912s mutator
1914s um so the mutator does all sorts of
1916s things theater does things like um
1919s everything from
1922s okay this skill now ha now triggers
1924s smite when you use it okay the mutator
1926s handles that uh to
1928s okay it's it's now cold converted and it
1931s needs to have cold visuals instead of
1933s fire visuals or something
1935s the mutator handles that like sound
1938s shape
1939s hit rate and anything that changes how
1941s the skill functions in any way visually
1943s or mechanically the mutator is what does
1946s that
1947s so it actually carries out the orders
1950s um
1952s and there's a lot of really unique
1955s uh stuff for each skill
1957s because every skill tree is a little bit
1959s different you know and and we do
1961s almost all of these interactions on a
1964s per scale basis the more common ones we
1967s do have um
1969s we we make a generic version of them and
1970s all sorts of stuff
1972s now because there are so specific
1976s um like the dps calculator doesn't know
1979s that when you're cast that when you when
1980s you're
1981s throwing out uh
1983s a hammer there's a chance it could
1984s trigger smite
1986s you know
1987s we have to tell the dps calculator that
1989s this could happen
1992s and so it's a calculated the damage of
1993s smite
1994s and
1996s um how have it be a chance that that
1998s happens and then add that on to the the
2001s damage that you're doing for hammer
2003s throw um
2005s but but not but but then multiply it by
2008s the chance for it to happen
2010s um and then for things that are like aoe
2012s there's we
2013s sometimes will if it's like specifically
2015s used as an aoe skill we'll sometimes be
2017s like all right this is
2018s like let's assume that it hits two
2020s enemies most of the time or something
2022s like that you know there's there's
2024s approximations we do
2026s um on certain skills to to try and get a
2028s better feel for
2030s how they're going to be used in the wild
2032s and how that how these change is going
2033s to affect them
2037s so that dps number is
2040s quite often
2042s close
2043s and almost never exactly right
2047s um
2050s and so so things like
2052s plus five melee attack damage is really
2055s easy to calculate and uh
2057s for like basic attack you know
2059s and just just see if that changes the
2060s damage
2061s like but things like
2063s um
2064s oh there's a chance to to trigger
2068s uh
2070s a buff that will grant you more attack
2072s speed
2073s uh that you can consume to grant crit
2075s like there's no way the dps calculator
2077s can can really
2079s take that into account properly
2083s um so there's lots of things especially
2085s unique effects
2086s that and and unique passives and unique
2089s um
2091s effects on the skill streets as well
2092s that the the dps calculator just can't
2095s understand
2097s um
2099s and in a lot of cases they just get left
2101s out we just don't even try with a lot of
2102s them
2104s and these are things that we're trying
2105s to improve
2106s um
2108s and and we make changes to how each
2110s individual skills dps calculator works
2112s every patch
2113s and i mean we hit every single one of
2115s them every patch but
2119s every patch at least one of them gets
2120s changed somehow
2125s and
2127s and and that's not going to change we'll
2129s keep doing that for sure
2130s but i think what you're after is more is
2133s more granular and specific information
2135s about
2136s um
2137s what it's actually getting so you don't
2138s have to like manually add everything up
2140s yourself so how much
2142s uh increased
2143s damage total does your
2147s physical melee fire skill have
2149s at any given time so you don't have to
2151s like do the math on all the things that
2153s are shown for just the global ones and
2154s the stats that aren't even shown in the
2156s character sheet right now at all
2158s um
2160s like
2161s increased melee physical damage is not
2164s here
2166s at all
2172s so one thing we're we are planning on
2174s doing is we we have a rework for the
2177s character panel coming
2179s we've been working on it on and off for
2181s like three patches four patches now um
2184s the visual layout for it is pretty well
2186s done and we are working on
2188s the functional
2190s um
2193s the functional updates for it to make it
2195s actually work nicely
2199s uh blowbee
2201s bow bleed
2204s knights
2208s sharkins physical blasts nice

3437s i feel about that there is with with
3439s monolith of fate right now is that there
3440s is
3441s very little incentive to
3444s take your time at all in them
3446s in that the
3449s uh
3452s the the idea is very much how fast can i
3455s finish this echo because however fast i
3457s finish this echo determines how quickly
3459s i'm going to get the special reward
3461s for that echo and also
3463s um
3467s uh affects how
3472s uh not just the special order for the
3474s echo but but how much stability how fast
3476s you have stability per hour let's call
3477s it like what's the rate of stability
3479s gain
3480s um because that's the most important
3481s thing for
3482s getting to the boss faster right
3484s and you get stability by completing
3486s echoes so faster you call the echoes
3488s faster than the boss testing stability
3489s fascinating
3492s um so that's the interaction we're
3494s trying to augment we we want there to be
3497s um some incentive to slow down a bit
3500s in in the monolith uh that's that's
3503s that's natural and feels
3505s uh
3507s i want to say like intuitive and
3509s rewarding and
3511s uh we've we've attempted to do this a
3513s little bit in the past when we
3514s scale the rewards of the chest based on
3517s the number of enemies you kill
3519s in the monolith and that's been
3522s wildly unsuccessful i would say

3527s it was just just to be
3528s it's really under uh understate that

3550s pretty beefy here but i just want to

4276s we love skill trees
4277s that's the short answer we love skill
4279s trees and and
4281s being able to have that really
4284s um
4285s specific unique and independent control
4287s over each skill is something that we
4290s we've sort of been the core identity
4292s of our
4294s um character building
4297s as a whole not just skills but like the
4298s whole like the passives are predicated
4300s on that like gears predicated on that
4303s it's it's all about
4305s that skill trees
4307s um
4308s existing the way they are like every
4309s every system is built with the skill
4311s trees the way they are in mind
4314s um
4317s and and one of the big reasons we wanted
4319s to do this i think the easiest
4320s comparison is something like path of
4321s exile
4322s um where you have
4325s where it's very similar that they have
4327s very granular control and you can sort
4328s of build your own skill right
4333s there tends to be a little more generic
4337s uh generically useful
4339s support gems that go into skills in path
4342s of exile so like basically every
4344s projectile can have a
4346s uh like a multiple projectiles
4349s like
4350s like a greater multiple projectiles you
4351s need to basically any skill there
4354s and you can't do that to puncture
4356s puncture's always a single
4358s single hit i
4360s may be wrong about that actually might
4361s be a triple there somewhere
4362s but like there's there's always that
4364s like
4366s um flurry is always
4368s a single one here i mean you can you can
4371s get multi-shot to proc with flurry which
4373s is great
4374s um
4376s but there's there's a lot of things
4377s there's a lot of constants that we can
4379s keep true about certain skills that
4380s really keep the essence of that skill
4383s and
4384s the like
4386s the theming of that skill really strong
4390s um
4391s and we and we have these unique skill
4393s trees for each one so that we can be
4395s really specific so we can we can we can
4397s put in mods that
4399s for one skill that just would never work
4400s on any other skill at all
4403s and and and
4404s i know pathogen kind of does this too
4405s where those certain certain mods don't
4407s work on certain skills and all sort of
4408s stuff um
4410s which is a great way to get around get
4412s around it
4414s um
4415s but like every time they release a new
4417s skill
4418s um they have to take into account
4421s every single support gem that exists
4424s and decide okay is this gonna work is it
4426s not gonna work what does it look like if
4427s it does work all these things
4429s um
4431s whereas i think a real advantage we have
4433s from a design standpoint
4435s is is that we can we can
4437s compartmentalize skills and say like
4439s okay well this skill is affected by its
4441s skill tree
4442s and not this other skills skill
4445s treatment
4447s um i think that helps us with balancing
4449s makes it easier i i really understand
4452s i'm not saying one's better than the
4453s other but that's um
4455s one of the strengths of our system that
4457s we are
4458s leaning into and
4461s one of the things we like about it from
4463s a design like that makes our lives
4464s easier for as designers
4466s um
4470s where am i going with this
4472s skills uh modified specific things yes
4474s skill trees so um
4477s you're right it's a lot of skill trees
4479s right you have five
4481s for just your skills and that's part of
4482s the reason we introduce them slowly as
4483s you're leveling them so you become
4484s familiar with them and you're generally
4487s working with one or two at a time
4488s primarily to get to endgame then you're
4490s advancing them each a little bit at a
4492s time
4494s um if we had
4496s 10 skills on the bar
4498s uh you'd really frequently start to see
4502s specific skills
4504s become
4506s um
4508s like let's feel that like a um
4511s you'd be able to use exactly one point
4512s wonder skills
4515s uh so static
4517s is a great example of a one point wonder
4519s skill in diablo 2. you put one point in
4521s it you get the skill and it does what it
4523s does really well without putting any
4526s more points into it without any
4527s investment whatsoever
4529s um and it's just that's all it ever does
4534s um
4536s i think we'd end up with a lot of skills
4538s that were
4539s frequently used as
4541s 1.1 or so speaking we do get that a
4543s little bit with triggered skills that
4545s don't need to be on your bar so you end
4546s up with um unspec skills that do end up
4549s on your barber once in a while i think a
4550s really good example of that is something
4552s like decoy
4554s where you put it down and it's gonna do
4555s its basic thing
4558s it's not gonna get the extra benefits
4559s from the tree but it's gonna do the
4560s basic stuff
4562s just right off the bat
4565s and i think you'd see um the the number
4568s of people
4569s actually running decoy as a specialized
4571s skill
4573s plummet and the number of people total
4575s using decoy skyrocket
4577s um
4580s i'm just using decoys an example there's
4581s a lot of other skills that will probably
4582s fall into that category
4584s anyway i know there's some that do
4586s anyways
4587s um
4591s and with with 10 skills on your bar i
4593s think you'd end up in the situation
4594s where you're you've got a lot of skills
4596s sitting on your bar doing basically
4598s nothing
4607s and you still have a really similar play
4608s experience except it would be more
4610s complicated
4611s so you get all this extra complexity
4614s with very little depth and i know i've
4616s i've gone on this depth complexity rant
4617s a few times
4619s um but i think you end up with a bunch
4620s of complexity without doubt by doing
4622s that
4623s and
4625s um
4628s on top of all that all of our skills are
4630s designed exactly with the number of
4632s skills
4633s that we have in mind
4635s um and at this point if we want to
4638s release
4639s anytime soon
4642s we cannot add more skills to the bar it
4644s would it would cause such a backup on
4648s our entire design pipeline and
4650s development pipeline like it would it
4652s would just
4654s it would be absolutely insane to do that

4957s a four-point node that has 25 percent of
4959s lightning blast per point is converted
4964s and you're in these weird intermediary
4966s states and it just doesn't work

4972s uh that's that's i think it's sort of
4974s just why those are specifically one
4976s pointers

4979s and we try and get as many
4982s more gameplay impactful nodes as we
4984s possibly can especially ones
4988s um personally i know that i really like
4990s i think it's a good example of this is
4992s the berserk nodes on warcry
4996s a bunch of multiplayer nodes i think
4997s they're very it changes how you play
4999s with warfights very heavily
5006s i really like that it's one of my
5007s favorite notes

5013s um this is like yeah we might not want a
5015s skill to have
5017s increased poison damage on it or or
5020s increase poison chance or like added

5152s in that stage in that period where the

5164s and we are designing this for
5169s one point
5170s it's an unfortunate side effect of being
5172s in early access and leaving the
5173s characters

6128s you you could because it's a constantly

6134s have anything moving on it's because you
6135s can't see when the loading is actually
6137s happening

6142s and we're that's something we are
6143s actively working because we do want to
6144s get something moving on there so it's
6146s obvious that it's still loading
6147s something still happening that sort of

6151s but that's that's the main reason why a

6157s time travel effect as a loading screen

6160s it looked awful everyone thought the
6162s game was scratching we had so many crash

6168s for a second and people would all tab
6170s and the game would crash
6173s and as soon as we split those two
6175s those loading screen crashes crash

6179s almost every single one of them just
6181s vanished overnight
6183s it was crazy we're getting so many the
6185s all of them are gone
6192s and we've improved the stability of
6194s loading a lot since then but that one
6196s thing was actually had no effect on
6197s loading stability

6209s points to minions and resuming them uh
6212s can't the same be done with equipping
6214s and unequipping gear to prevent

6356s uh and open it and then move a little
6358s bit closer it'll close the inventory

6363s it's actually the same bug that happens

6367s um but it's so much harder to detect
6370s uh and it only happens in like a couple
6373s combinations of npcs but because the
6376s stash and shop armor shops are almost
6379s always like the exact distance apart to
6382s make it happen
