Hello,

Just discovered your game. I am a big ARPG fan, played lots of D1, D2, D3 and most recently PoE. Something that concerns me when I was reading here was about singleplayer. It is not clear to me whether or not items and the actual character are stored remotely on your servers even when playing singleplayer, is this the case? Otherwise some of the mystery of the game will quickly vanish in the form of character editors and other various cheat tools.

Not to mention the multiplayer. I hope you guys are developing last epoch using a server-authoritative architecture so that the clients are dumb and the server holds the truth, just like in any mmorpg. These days, asking for an internet connection to be able to play is really not too much to ask for. In my opinion, the trade-off is worth it without a question. In the end, this comes down to the long-term health of the game. Please, keep the secrets on your servers, don't let people manipulate the game and discover stuff they are not supposed to.

Just my 2 cents, thanks for adding to the ARPG-genre!

The single player version of the game is offline single player, with the restriction that such characters cannot be used for online play. Even games with restrictive online-only DRM, these games are heavily datamined because of all the local strings and what not. They're really aren't that many "secrets" in such games.

Spot on. One additional thing to note, online characters will be able to be converted to offline characters.

Regarding secrets/datamining, because we intend to support offline play we will not able to prevent datamining to the degree we could if the game was purely online. It's unfortunate, but it's a necessary compromise to offer the features we want to have

Side question; will you be supporting/allowing (offline) modding?

It's something we have discussed, but haven't reached a conclusion on. We would like to support offline modding if we are able to, but we need to make sure we are able to before we make any promises.
