353s with multiple on the horizon are we
355s getting any sort of online lobby system
357s for creating games inviting people or is
358s it more of a hot drop party system right

362s what's available that we have in our
363s testing is
365s there's no law there's no lobby system
367s right now the goal is more to have town
369s function as a lobby system to some
371s degree
374s um that could change though we do we we
376s have been getting a lot of feedback from
377s early ct's about um
380s the process of finding uh pickup groups
382s and and people you don't know to play
384s with and and how that feels and
385s everything like that and like so in the
387s in the very early version we gave them
388s there was literally nothing it was just
390s chat and if you can find someone on
392s discord usually
393s but that was a the first version that we
395s gave them type thing
398s but that was a pretty big piece of
399s feedback we got was that there was a lot
401s of people who were like i don't have
402s friends who play this yet um partially
404s because there's like a pretty small
406s community that that has access to
408s multiplayer still um and it was it was
410s tough finding someone to play with
411s because you know there's not
413s thousands and thousands and thousands of
415s people trying to do the same thing you
416s are
417s with such a small testing group
419s uh so they were i was one piece of
421s feedback we did quite a bit
427s you mean eight six for september yeah
429s we're not oh did i say eight five i'm
431s sorry yes
433s eight six was originally um slated for
435s september and we changed 86 to
438s 0.9

448s a certain other similar style game has
450s launched a new league today um

455s i will not be surprised there's a little
457s less engagement today than normal that's
459s totally fine
462s because they usually launch on fridays
463s this happens what three times a year

472s it's all good so i'm just going to enjoy
473s myself and play a little
477s bomage if multiplayer implementation
479s gets delayed for any reason do you see
481s the possibility of implementing some
483s non-multiplayer features new unique
484s items small things like that to hold
486s folks over um
490s maybe it's
491s it's really tough so here's the problem

495s we've completely merged developments
498s uh now so there there is no
501s offline version of the game and online
504s version of the game separate builds like
506s a crate or anything like that it's just
507s the game gets made
509s um and in that you can play offline or
511s online but it is um
514s it's not separated at all so
516s the time it would take us to
519s re-split that in order to make
522s uh a buildable version with some of
525s those those small features

529s for for like a surprise patch

535s baffling like like
538s the the amount of extra time there is is
539s just insane
541s so so i would say very unlikely we would

546s it's not impossible
548s get gets really powerful tools so we we

561s qa i would have to flip to that for like

671s items are unique versions of base types
674s that already exist so like like a
677s longbow is a is an item that you can
679s just get um
681s winter is just the unique longbow or a
683s unique longbow and every once in a while
685s we do make a unique
687s base type that doesn't drop and you
689s can't have magic exalted rare uh
691s versions of it it can only be on that
693s unique or set item too
695s it's pretty rare but there are a couple
696s examples of it there's a poison spear i

702s there's a shield that's like that
705s this is a catalyst that's like that
710s could be wrong on a couple of those

725s about asking like a diablo 3 armory

728s um quick switch your gear loadout and
731s skill specs so you can just say like

746s and um you just walk up to it you're
748s like okay switch to my loadout it just
749s switches um this is not a feature we
752s have planned and we actually have
753s specifically planned not to have this

764s there's sort of a
766s a loadout templating system we've
769s considered adding
770s um we don't really have plans to put
772s this in but we've considered one thing
774s we talked about doing is having a
775s templating system whereby you could say

778s you could you could like load up a build
780s and when you go into the tree it would
781s like have like little asterisks beside
784s the like
785s the ones that are part of the builds
786s you'd like know what your build was
790s not huge on that the big problem with
792s something like that is that you end up
794s not learning the tree at all you end up
797s not like the trees are fairly digestible
799s i think so i i don't think it's
800s unreasonable to ask people to learn
802s even five trees really for for one
804s character um and not even learn but just
807s sort of like get a feel for it because
808s if there's if you just have a way to
809s like import a build and it's just like
811s just click all the asterisks and just do
813s what it says i think the vast majority
815s of people would end up having no idea
817s what any of the nodes do at all and it
819s would really take away from anyone's
821s ability to to have any sort of like
824s experimentation
825s and input and
827s and like we want to really foster that

830s feeling of like seeing what's available
832s and experimenting yourself a little bit
835s uh so so yeah
837s i'd say unlikely but possible
840s uh always open to suggestions not the
843s best time to stream pb leagues like yeah
845s i know it's not the best time to stream

856s frame for most of our our high

861s density player base so like most of our
863s players are in north america and europe

880s will be much less engagement and i'll

1044s played gloomhaven last night gloomhaven
1046s the jaws of the lion
1050s was great
1052s we were uh
1054s getting right down to the end of it
1055s little side story time right down to the
1057s end of it my buddy was like i'm going to
1058s get exhausted if you like running the
1059s cards you get exhausted you can still
1060s win the scenario but you're like out for
1062s the rest of it and i'm like
1064s i'm just going to go for the boss as
1066s much damage as i can
1067s and like
1069s pull the crit card
1070s and just like
1071s dealt over half the boss's health in one
1074s one turn and just boom done and he
1076s survived
1077s it was great wrapped it up no problem no
1080s sweat
1086s not happening
1089s highly recommend bloomhaven jaws the
1091s lion over regular
1093s gloomhaven i've not actually played
1095s regular blue haven but i looked into
1096s both quite heavily and uh
1100s unless you have six hours
1103s every day for
1104s a year you're not getting through
1106s regular gloom even
1111s you also kind of need a 3d printer to
1112s like
1113s build the box inserts that you would
1115s need
1118s to make regular blue haven fun
1121s all right back to this game are there
1123s any plans to increase useless of
1124s non-legendary uniques as some sort of
1127s crafting fodder component something that
1129s would at least incentivize those special
1131s moments when you get those jobs pushed
1132s towards them something useful for your
1133s characters yeah that's something we
1135s definitely considered and i think it's
1136s important to um to look at that
1139s because there are a lot of uniques that
1141s you just you're like nah well just leave
1142s it on the ground it's not even worth
1144s like picking up for the like the
1146s crafting mats or anything like that um
1150s and i could see like some sort of system
1152s along the lines of
1154s like you can shatter uniques and there's
1156s like
1157s a chance to get certain mods off them or
1160s uh maybe you can like shadow uniques and
1163s there's a different material that comes
1164s out of them or you can get like random
1166s runes out of it or like
1167s there's you can like build towards
1169s descendants runes or something like that
1170s you know there's there's lots of
1171s different ways you can build systems
1173s like that in um
1176s there's there's this weird situation
1177s that happens when you get to like super
1179s late game and you're dropping like a lot
1182s of unique items
1183s and um
1186s picking all of them up would be very
1189s inventory micromanaging intensive and
1192s avoiding that is also important
1194s um
1196s so it's it's tough to say exactly what
1198s we do it would it would likely have to
1200s be something that you'd be able to do on
1202s the fly so you wouldn't have to go back
1204s to town to do
1205s not necessarily
1207s so
1209s maybe something you could do at least in
1211s the
1212s m rest uh the
1214s the scene the the reward scene in
1216s between
1218s um
1219s echoes i don't know the actual scene is
1221s called like the zones called like this
1223s one's called twisted mirror i don't know
1224s what the proper name for it is
1226s the
1227s the scene code is m underscore rest
1238s uh since local play will remain in point
1240s post 0.9 does that mean single player
1242s will be handled like minecraft does by
1244s creating a local server no if so does
1246s this also mean that lan multiplayer will
1248s be relatively easy to implement no
1251s very difficult lan multiplayer requires
1254s us releasing our server code which is
1256s something we are not overly enthusiastic
1259s about doing
1266s um this was an unfortunate concession we
1269s made when designing our multiplayer
1270s systems
1271s um
1273s but
1274s will likely mean that multiplayer will
1275s release a year earlier than it would
1277s otherwise have
1289s land land mode's kind of up in the air
1290s it's something we we decided was
1292s um would have been really nice but
1295s uh it's more important to get the game
1296s out and finished than to include it
1299s at least
1303s initially and things change so who knows
1305s ooh keepers gloves love them
1307s no i'll drop everything
1314s my goodness mike you just kill things
1316s first and then pick stuff up what are
1317s you doing

1337s uh as a game dev
1339s uh what do you think about designing a
1342s game that is

1344s portable to multiple platforms like
1346s switch or xbox versus making a game on
1348s pc only where ui customization player
1350s created mods are more possible can you
1352s do both or do you have to focus on
1355s either or

1360s i i think that
1364s so i think there's a lot of pros and
1365s cons to to doing cross-platform stuff or
1367s even just multi-platform stuff um the
1370s the biggest obvious bonus to doing it is
1373s you hit you hit a wider player base so
1375s not everyone has um
1377s not everyone has a gaming pc
1379s you know it's
1381s everyone that can just like afford a
1382s switch
1384s you you can get a like a lot wider
1386s player
1387s base
1389s there's a lot that goes into making
1391s console games that i have zero
1393s experience personally with um but i've
1396s talked to like you go to conventions and
1397s you talk to other people in the booths
1399s beside you um you make you make friends
1401s at conventions that are it's just
1402s awesome i love love conventions for just
1404s like meeting your booth neighbors that's
1406s like one of my favorite parts anyways um
1408s we we talked to a lot of people who like
1410s make are making console games
1413s and most of them had made them before
1415s um but everyone whose first time it was
1417s that i talked to was just like blown
1419s away with the amount of
1420s um
1422s like
1422s startup
1424s red tape that goes with a lot of it
1427s um especially uh well yeah it doesn't
1429s matter and and so i i think the
1432s like the key part about making a
1434s crossover title that does both is
1436s um
1440s is is just controller support right off
1442s the bat and that's something we did
1443s start with because we knew how much done
1445s this one
1446s something we knew that we were planning
1447s on having is controller support
1449s originally and so
1452s as long as you can really have that
1453s controller support it doesn't really
1454s matter i also think that the whole
1456s um
1458s the whole like mods no mods thing with
1460s like your pc version that's mods and
1462s your console version doesn't it can it
1464s can lead to a little bit of like
1467s um
1468s like mod envy from the other side type
1471s thing and
1472s yeah that's not
1474s awesome
1475s um
1478s but at the same time i don't think it's
1480s that huge of a deal breaker really like
1482s as long as you make the game
1486s if you make the game with
1488s mods being an integral part of the game
1490s right from the start
1492s you better make the console version
1494s moddable as well type thing

1497s if you're making the game to be a
1500s like
1501s a complete product without mods and like
1503s communities create modding communities
1506s out after the fact i don't think it
1508s matters that the console version doesn't
1510s have access to those
1511s that'll be my personal opinion on it

1581s mostly because like the it's gonna be
1584s released when it's ready and we're not
1585s gonna put uh
1588s this is done stamp on it until we're
1590s happy with it

1597s so sorry i can't give you an answer

1602s no but it's also not not planned for
1605s that like

1625s elements any visible nerfs and buffs um

1649s and some extreme single player cases

1660s multiplayer versions of them because my
1662s goodness it was broken um

1676s it's it's less about yeah specific
1679s balance changes and we're adding more
1681s features to the system

1693s those are but i don't know if they're
1694s off on my head

1737s roll ranges on set items i see you're

1743s like a long-term solution for the system

1750s any progression in it like you're not
1753s necessarily finding the

1758s like you're not starting with like the
1760s the base versions and then like finding
1761s better versions always you might you
1764s have the same chance of finding a good
1766s version to start as you do a bad version
1768s to start typing
1770s and as we've learned people hate
1772s weighted rolls my goodness that gets so
1776s much negative feedback it's crazy
1781s even when you put the fact that it's
1782s weighted and how it's weighted in the
1783s tooltips my goodness that's a that's a
1786s negative response

1791s so you can't you can't say like okay
1793s it's got like a
1795s 10 chance to be above the 50 mark you
1797s know one percent chance to be above the
1799s 90 mark or anything like that you just
1801s got to be like

1814s like the ideal solution for set items is
1817s likely something

1823s empowering them in some way some sort of
1826s like in the same way that rewards happen

1836s changing set items that you already have
1838s in some mechanically functional

1877s all the features are in

1917s system no more specifically the respect
1919s part of the in the upcoming patch um

1934s we did had a i know this is like minor
1937s concessions type thing we did add in the
1940s the like accept button you can use the
1942s enter key on now this might actually be
1944s in the game already i can test it out um
1946s that was a while ago so like it's it is
1949s smoother to do it
1950s um because you can just be like respect
1953s enter respect enter you don't like move
1954s your mouse cursor as much

1960s but as far as just like
1962s right click to remove left click to add

1969s not currently being worked on by anyone

1993s negative roll values i'm curious if last

2010s rarity so we wouldn't have that mod

2026s a negative roll system so much as just

2382s newer skills or skills we've updated

2387s part of that had to do with the

2391s just just the workload that was required

2396s if if you have each one of them convert
2399s let's say so let's let's say you have um
2402s an ability
2404s that has three sub skills

2411s you you that you then want to con you
2412s want to convert the skill to another
2414s element

2416s if you also convert a little sub skills
2417s that adds an extra
2420s oh wow that's a nice helmet that also
2422s adds an extra um
2426s what am i trying to say an extra like
2429s three
2430s skills you have to create that all have
2432s their own bfx and everything
2434s um
2440s fire damage not ideal
2444s this is a great bow for the one i'm
2445s playing online right now

2450s anyways what am i getting so yeah all
2451s the sub skills and then then you put a
2452s so now now that you've um
2454s you've done those three extra skills
2456s and
2458s um you set the precedence that when you
2459s do a conversion it converts all the sub
2461s skills as well
2462s so then then you add in a second
2464s conversion so then now can us another
2466s conversion instead of it just being one
2468s skill to convert it has the
2471s um the technical debt of having to
2472s convert all the sub skills as well so uh
2475s one skill conversion suddenly becomes a
2477s four skill conversion
2479s and then um
2481s once you do that if you want to add
2482s another sub skill anywhere in the tree
2484s uh suddenly instead of just adding one
2487s skill you have to add three skills
2488s because there's two conversions that go
2489s with it as well and it's it's this
2491s multiplicative effect that happens every
2492s time you add either a new sub skill or a
2494s new conversion it just multiplies by the
2496s number of the other categories there is
2499s um
2501s so that's probably why in the past we
2503s haven't always done it this way now
2506s our ability to make skills um
2509s efficiently and awesome
2511s has uh definitely increased in speed
2514s uh
2515s inefficiency
2516s better than it ever has been so i think
2518s there's more room for us in our pipeline
2520s to do those things
2522s and i think it's likely we'll see more
2524s and more of those as we go forward
2528s which i know doesn't help in the
2529s consistency of it right now which is
2531s frustrating probably
2532s um
2534s usually the ones we prioritize
2536s converting are ones that are really
2538s um thematically appropriate and
2540s functionally synergistic so fire is a
2543s pretty low synergy element on
2546s uh primeless in general it's a secondary
2548s element so there's not a lot of fire
2550s anywhere now that that might be the the
2552s flip side of that argument as well
2553s there's not much so you should like
2555s support it where you can type thing and
2557s and yeah that's probably true so i'd say
2559s probably should convert them

2565s but that's uh i guess an insight into
2567s why we haven't in some situations yet
2573s but if there's specific things like that
2574s that you want to suggest this converting
2576s it's always a great uh
2579s type of thing to suggest yeah

2887s vanishes a little bit and doesn't get

3399s damage multipliers as possible
3403s um so short answer is yes we've
3404s considered that um
3406s and and i know it's such a compound
3408s answer so if you consider this i mean

3415s i think there are too many
3420s i think the
3422s distribution of more damaged nodes
3424s throughout the skill tree
3426s is too inconsistent for what it should
3429s be um so there's some trees that have a
3432s lot of more damaged nodes and some trees
3433s that have almost none or in some cases
3435s probably no more damaged nodes
3438s um
3439s and i think i think having that be more
3441s consistent would help quite a bit in in
3443s the power level of
3445s um
3447s of where damage is coming from just
3449s skill to skill
3450s then on top of that i think there's that
3452s the the more damage nodes that do exist
3455s probably have too many points available
3456s to go in them
3458s um
3459s and they're probably too much damage per
3460s point
3462s we do still want people to be able to
3463s invest in damage in a skill tree
3466s but
3467s it's
3468s so clearly the right choice
3471s in almost every situation
3474s that it's it's less
3476s it's not interesting anymore like you're
3478s just
3479s i like the sort of the
3482s that's not even a joke just the way that
3483s it's done most the time is just like
3485s open the skill tree type more and take
3487s all the nodes that flash you know and
3490s um
3492s that's that's not ideal
3495s um i also think that there
3499s likely is
3501s not enough emphasis on items for damage
3504s scaling in general with the way steel
3506s trees work

3509s and that that is something we're
3510s addressing

3577s functional ones you can grab those right
3578s away and then fill the damaged ones
3579s later but still um if if the damage was
3582s so heavily tied to the level of the
3584s skill uh respecting would become even
3588s harder to do um
3591s and we're trying to find a striking good
3592s balance there so i think that there's
3594s um there's room to pull back on the
3597s damage associated with with nodes on the
3599s skill tree um both in quantity of nodes
3602s number of points that can go in those
3603s nodes and values per point in those
3606s nodes um
3609s and
3610s like
3611s some or all of those in each case and
3613s it's always the case by case basis on
3615s how we do each one of them um and we're
3617s like replacing some of those nodes with
3618s extra things or or adding more
3620s mechanically unique things to some of
3622s those nodes or you know like
3625s spicing them up a little bit making them
3626s more interesting we do try and put
3628s slightly less complex nodes near the
3630s center um so we've got like attack speed
3633s attack speed scaling up uh there's
3636s uh
3637s ailment application stuff just flat
3639s damage
3642s you know there's this one's a little
3643s more complicated it's not right at the
3644s start uh and then like leech and it's
3647s because slurry it's based on each
3649s uh each hit so there's like
3652s you generally get these like more
3653s straightforward you can explain it in
3655s like one point and then you get
3656s as you branch off you start getting like
3659s um triggered buffs that come into play
3661s and they have like named buffs with
3663s certain effects and then things that
3664s modify those buffs and things like that
3666s and you start you start getting
3668s more detailed as you go out now there's
3670s not a lot of
3674s basic simple less detailed easy to
3677s understand i don't know the right term
3678s for it is there but but more
3680s straightforward nodes in the center um
3683s and there's not a lot of different
3684s things you can do
3686s and so quite often we do end up putting
3688s more damage in there somewhere
3691s um and here this bill doesn't take it
3694s um
3695s it's not always the best thing to take i
3696s guess
3698s um
3700s but you know like there's
3704s sometimes it's hard to get those ones in
3706s the center to be really nice
3708s um and straightforward and
3710s like unique so you don't just have like
3712s every single no tree has a crit node
3717s i think we are also learning more as we
3719s develop more skill trees like the
3721s process for making skill trees is
3723s evolving still too like
3724s we we started making skill trees a whole
3727s new way for the most recent skill trees
3729s we've done
3733s which was
3734s just pretty great it was it was awesome
3736s like the ideation where we're
3739s uh where we just get together and just
3740s like throw everything we can at a wall

3831s um you get enough overwhelming feedback
3833s from your player base on and you listen
3835s pretty closely
3837s uh so if if after you've tried it

3842s you can it's totally fine to get
3843s feedback before you tried it but just
3845s know that this is the sort of thing that
3847s i think really
3849s is important to try and will probably
3851s wait feedback of people that have tried
3853s it heavier um so once you get a chance
3855s to try it i encourage you to give
3856s feedback on this topic

3862s uh question well yeah like playing out
3864s playing down level scaling is there any
3865s sort of stuff like that
3867s so currently the system is such that
3869s there is no level scaling in place at
3872s all if you are a level 100 and you go to
3874s level one zone you are dealing level 100
3876s damage and you are
3877s slaughtering stuff like you're like a
3879s level 100 god you are
3881s um
3882s if you are a level one then you go into
3884s a level 100 zone you are getting your
3886s ass handed to you like a level one nude
3887s that you are
3888s um
3890s it is it is there's nothing there the um
3893s one mechanic that is related um that
3896s question comes up as the next question
3897s after this is okay if i'm a level one in
3899s a level 100 zone and i've got a level
3900s 100 carrying me am i gaining experience
3903s like in the level 100 zone like normal
3905s no you're gaining level experience it's
3908s the same way that's already in game now
3910s you cannot gain experience faster than
3913s five levels above your current level so
3915s right now
3918s level 96 it doesn't matter so in that
3920s situation where a level 1 is in a level
3922s 100 zone
3923s and like an enemy dies you gain
3926s experience as though that enemy was
3928s level 6 because that's 5 levels higher
3930s than what you are so it still is an
3932s increase
3934s and to power level someone the most
3935s efficient way would be would likely be
3937s to just take them to a zone where they
3939s could survive
3940s um while the high level player
3943s um kills things rather quickly so like i
3946s don't know an early monolith perhaps
3949s where uh the level 100 could just cruise
3951s through no problem and
3953s um the level one would still level up as
3955s those level six zone but would be pretty
3957s quick and then um
3960s you'd be able to keep going and
3962s you wouldn't out level the level
3964s differential bonus
3965s or penalty too fast
3968s that makes any sense
3970s um
3973s and then the the other follow-up
3975s question that usually comes when i
3976s answer something like that is whoa whoa

3978s a level one into the monolith yeah um if

4625s and with enemy health like really nicely

4631s harder and as you get better at your
4633s like your character gets stronger
4634s getting started your character gets
4635s stronger um
4637s healthy just like naturally keeps up
4640s and it's it's just like oh that's nice
4642s and and so it's it's hard to
4646s um compare that to like a flat health
4648s gain on crit because that doesn't it
4650s does scale with your crit chance which
4652s does generally go up as you get on um
4655s but not always and
4658s maybe you get to like 100 crit early and
4660s then it's never going to go up again

4667s that there's there's yeah it's it's
4669s tough to

4672s to balance it because it scales so well

6129s we created the dungeon system um
6132s we changed how arenas work we ch we did
6135s a lot of things and it kind of made lost
6136s memories not really the original vision
6138s we had for them just sort of be like
6139s well that's not gonna work

6144s and so a lot of the stuff we had
6145s considered sort of just went out the
6147s window but there's some of the thematic
6150s stuff that it really hits
6151s and we had a couple other ideas for ways
6153s it could work that were really good that
6154s we were like okay let's keep it on as
6156s like a name for a feature but we'll
6158s we're gonna remake the feature something
6159s completely different

6164s and so that that happened like well two
6166s years ago now

6172s and we've really done anything about it
6174s since then really i haven't like added
6176s the features or really worked on them
6177s specified exactly what they're going to

6186s but as far as like a favor system we've
6188s talked about uh when we've talked about

6194s but i i think one of the key things
6195s about it is
6196s is having a

6199s a progression system that's not tied as
6202s stringently to your character level
6205s um but more tied to
6208s multiple systems throughout the game so
6210s so so it's a it's
6212s something that you can advance
6214s without being like okay like when you're
6216s playing model if you're advancing your
6217s model with progression when you're
6218s playing
6219s dungeons you're vince and your dungeon
6220s progression and there's there's a little
6222s bit of crossover with the keys and like
6224s the gear you get from things like that
6225s but it's there's no direct like um you
6228s can't unlock a new dungeon tier by
6230s completing a monolith you can't unlock
6232s any monolith island by completing a
6234s dungeon right there's no direct cross
6235s progression unlocks there
6239s um and so i think that that's that's an
6241s important part about a a
6243s like this nebulous favorite system we've
6245s sort of touched on is is having um the
6249s progression to that not be tied directly
6251s to
6252s any one in-game system
6254s like any one game activity i think is
6256s better way to put it probably
6259s um so you are still
6262s like
6263s a little bit more able to
6265s have that progression where it's not
6266s tied to your character level or any
6268s other end game systems as much where you
6270s could focus on it and or ignore it and
6272s like you might see like a level i don't
6274s know level 70 level 100 that have the
6276s same favorite progressions
6278s um
6280s that'd be pretty unlikely but i like i
6282s bet i bet it could be done sort of thing
6284s and that's still very much up in the air
6285s on details for it so
6289s that's why i'm talking in such broad
6290s strokes for
6292s i think that's some of the like the the
6294s general like really overarching
6296s mechanical goals for what it does why

6464s plans to change that either
