906s about the mobility gap between classes
908s and skills yeah there's
911s uh that's a difficult problem that i
914s wish i had a great answer for you just
915s right off the bat um especially with
918s unique and legendary items in play will
919s pan out because currently given off the
922s current numbers there will be people
924s playing slower builds not engaging with
926s content while the friends run ahead and
928s clear the map part of the reason why d3
929s and pue can feel bad in group play
933s yeah this is this is a real tough
934s problem this is a problem as you pointed
936s out right there in the question that
937s other games other large games in the
940s genre have struggled with this exact
941s same problem and and it's really
943s difficult to come up with a good answer
945s we've already started to take some steps
947s to improve this actually because in our
949s really early play testing
951s we see certain build certain classes
954s even just in early leveling just whoosh
956s way ahead of everyone else
958s um and this along with some not overly
963s awesome nodes in lunge
965s is what led to the lunge rework and it's
967s actually a lot better now in multiplayer
969s than it used to be which is great
971s it's not perfect yet

975s i i think there will be a little bit of
977s an expectation and like people love to
980s go fast
981s bottom line people love to go fast um
984s there's this there's this tug of war
986s between
988s um
991s i i guess like class fantasy and class
994s balance class identity class fantasy
996s class uniqueness and class balance
999s so having that
1000s um
1002s everyone
1004s moves the same
1005s it takes away from that class identity
1007s that class fantasy that class balance um
1010s and we try and put that in how they move
1012s how they use the move skills so
1014s shift
1015s is basically
1017s teleport transplant they're basically
1019s the same thing you press the button you
1020s go the distance it's pretty similar
1022s um
1023s a lot of what changes between the three
1025s is i mean teleport and transplant are
1026s much more similar because you can um
1029s you don't actually travel the distance
1031s you you just teleport and
1033s um
1036s uh shift is a fixed distance where the
1038s other ones aren't but
1039s anyways it's it's very very similar
1041s except shift is a shorter distance and
1043s it has a lower cost and a lower cooldown
1046s so you use it more frequently and and so
1049s you can give them a base a really
1050s similar
1052s um
1054s a really similar
1056s initial
1057s mobility potential
1062s the cap on a lot of these is really hard
1065s to
1066s define
1068s um
1069s by the skill alone because the cap on a
1071s lot of these moving skills is is
1073s actually defined by the sum total of all
1075s of the things that can influence that
1077s movement skill in the game and that
1078s comes down to things like cool down
1080s reduction um just flat mana available
1083s mana regen
1084s um
1086s there's a lot of things that it impacts
1088s right
1089s and and
1090s those things in particular mana regen
1092s and cooldown reduction are stats that we
1094s uh hold quite close to our chest and
1097s don't do a lot with or we try not to
1100s um
1104s and i i think that a lot of the problem
1106s with
1108s movement skills in a lot of games that
1109s we've seen online already like diablo 3
1111s and path of exiles um disparity movement
1113s skills between classes comes a lot from
1116s just playing with random people
1119s um
1121s like
1122s i mean the game i always use as an
1123s example diablo 2 has the biggest
1125s disparity movement skills from class to
1127s class of any game i've ever seen
1129s um
1130s and they in a way kind of fix it by
1132s giving everyone teleport with with
1134s enigma it's sort of a weird way to fix
1136s the problem because i don't
1139s kind of hate the teleports there at the
1140s same time but anyways um
1146s by giving everyone access to teleport
1148s you kind of you kind of fix that by
1149s making everyone equal but at base
1154s sorceress is
1156s unbelievably far ahead of everyone else
1160s like
1161s so
1163s you can keep up a little bit with a
1164s bunch of them there's um
1167s charge can go pretty quick
1169s um
1172s there's elements of it that work with
1173s other things too nice
1175s um
1176s but yeah it's it's just so overwhelming
1179s how much better teleport is than
1181s everything else
1182s and
1183s so this problem's been around forever
1185s right
1186s i think a lot of fixing it is
1189s like playing with people you know and
1191s being able to
1192s talk and play together and not just run
1195s off on each other
1196s and and i i know that's not really a
1198s solution and it's definitely something
1200s we're trying to make easier to to do
1203s to
1204s like play with friends and not have that
1206s disparity be so huge at least have the
1208s potential to not have that disparity to
1210s be so huge but in in random play
1214s like if you just if you're just joining
1215s a group with someone you don't know it's
1217s almost impossible to get that moving
1218s potential to be
1220s similar with each other just by sure
1222s happenstance unless both of you are
1224s hitting the theoretical limit
1226s and that theoretical limit for all
1227s classes is relatively similar
1230s and we do try our best to make that the
1232s case
1233s um
1237s but it can force people into the like
1240s okay well i have to go as fast as
1242s possible
1243s um
1244s so there's another way we can then look
1246s at how to how how to i guess
1250s um
1251s normalize movement speed across
1252s different classes
1254s and and that's
1256s um environmental
1257s punishments for going too fast which i
1260s know sounds really weird but it's like
1263s the first enemy like say you had an
1265s enemy that had
1267s um
1268s an ability i don't really know even what
1269s i'm doing in this
1271s uh
1272s monolith echo here i'm just sort of
1273s going and talking um if you say you had
1275s say you had an enemy
1277s where the first
1278s um
1279s thing it encountered
1283s it uh it had an attack that like always
1285s hit
1286s and it like
1287s nuked that person's mana just the first
1290s person that meets it just nukes their
1292s mana or it nukes their cooldown
1293s reduction or it nukes their movement
1294s speed or something like that like it's
1296s just
1297s um
1298s it does something to like heavily slow
1300s down the first person it sees and it
1302s gives a chance for someone else to catch
1303s up right
1305s there's a reason we don't do that it
1307s feels awful
1309s and it feels even worse if the two of
1311s you are really close together
1314s and um
1315s it just nukes one of your movement
1317s speeds and then one one falls behind
1319s because of it now there's workarounds
1320s for that as well where you can say like
1321s okay it's it's it nukes the movement
1323s speed of isolated people that it reaches
1326s first so it's like okay if you're really
1328s far ahead of someone then it'll it'll
1331s oh
1334s that's a nice helmet
1336s uh it'll it'll like just wreck whoever's
1339s first if they're isolated
1342s but then you get into problems of like
1343s okay well then there's
1344s um
1345s in a four-person group maybe three
1347s people are up high up close to this
1349s person really far ahead and one person's
1350s lagging behind
1352s um
1353s so there's sort of every single one of
1355s these things that has options to fix
1356s these there's problems with them and i'm
1358s not i i know i'm just bringing up a lot
1359s of problems i don't have a good answer
1361s to this right now
1362s um but i guess i'm just trying to
1364s illustrate that we're
1365s we are thinking about this and we are
1367s working on it
1368s um
1372s partially illustrated in the changes to
1373s lunge a few patches back
1376s and teleport is high on my list of
1378s um
1380s rework skills
1384s i think it needs some love there's a few
1386s nodes in teleport that are not doing
1388s what they're designed to do
1390s um and they're being used quite cleverly
1392s by the community in different ways um
1394s and and doing it's doing exactly what it
1397s says it does and everything but it's
1398s it's not the intention or like the
1400s server key that's three keys already 23
1402s minutes in
1404s ones from a boss that i'd perhaps that
1405s doesn't really count i guess
1408s um
1413s i do really want to get into a dungeon
1415s today and finish one off
1419s a bunch of cash i think don't they
1421s yeah i got like five mil
1426s totally obtained perfectly legitimately
1429s 100
1433s i'm a paragon of
1435s trust and honesty

1462s level 90 zones we're pretty under
1463s leveled for it but we are cruising
1465s through it pretty nicely which is good

1476s get some better gear on
1479s kind of tempted to go back into a lower
1481s level monolith that i can just
1483s just cruise through
1485s and just hit all the xp nodes
1489s and get another blessing
1494s the jaw spurs are uh

1517s put in a bit of a filter to highlight
1519s gear that i really want
1524s yeah i don't care about crit
1526s will there be streams of skill design
1529s for new masteries no i'm sorry
1534s uh skill design goes through so many
1536s different stages that um

1541s that's what's gonna stay as
1543s it's so far into this into it that it's
1545s basically done

1552s i mean it's possible we might do
1553s something little but

1563s you'll start to see teasers

1573s once it's once it's being worked on but
1575s no it's it hasn't been touched
1577s still exactly where it was
1590s they're tricky because we like
1593s multiplayer's taking up a lot of work

1598s and the the goal is really to hit to hit
1600s 1.0

1603s in a really good state with the grip on
1604s like hit the ground running with 1.0 and

1610s that's our main goal

1628s why not gain a bonus like you did with
1630s the pets on mobility if you're too far

1643s in a way that a computer can can detect

1652s and then how to find the group

1663s it's that's really difficult to do with
1666s with all sorts of stuff but like for all
1668s sorts of reasons
1673s i'd say almost impossible to do well
1675s without having like
1676s weird random like
1678s having things be really

1684s so with with the pets a head is really
1685s obvious because the head is just towards
1688s the creator you know like that's that's
1690s not a head it's distance from
1692s um
1694s and you can't do like
1697s having having very quickly changing
1700s uh move speed
1702s is frustrating so having like if you're
1704s just walking you're just like slow fast
1706s slow fast slow fast
1708s sucks
1711s and
1714s having um
1716s speed ups happen
1718s where you can be like walking along one
1721s direction
1723s and maybe like a head is defined as like
1725s perpendicular to the direction you're
1726s walking and so as you're walking towards
1729s this point where you get closer and
1730s closer and closer
1732s and then you you're at the closest point
1734s you're getting further further away so
1735s something you're walking away so
1736s suddenly you slow down for seemingly no
1738s reason
1739s you know you're walking the same
1740s direction there's there's a lot of
1742s like that's the simplest example but
1744s there's a lot of weird things like that
1749s and there's lots of things you can do so
1750s you can like give it a um
1754s like a minimum time you need to be like
1756s outside of the range for it to slow down
1757s or something like that so if you like
1758s dip in and out of it it's better
1766s i think we'd like to try as many of the
1769s uh like almost like standard speed
1772s balancing things as we can first like
1774s just making the maximum potential move
1776s speed on that you can get out of
1778s spamming teleport spamming transplant
1781s spamming shifts split spamming lunge
1784s you know like what's the max spinning
1786s fury leaf what's the maximum speed you
1788s can get out of all these things if you
1789s really spec into it hard
1791s being just similar to each other as
1793s similar as we can and and and getting
1794s that as close as we can to to decent
1796s first is is the first thing we want to
1798s do and and getting feedback from larger
1801s audiences another key i am really lucky
1803s at keys
1805s um and getting feedback from a larger
1807s audience on how that feels before doing
1810s i am putting new systems like this like
1812s some sort of catch-up mechanic for for
1814s speed scaling i think is is
1816s a better overall plan
1820s see there's lots of games that that sort
1822s of thing works great in like mario kart
1825s great catch-up mechanic in america
1826s there's two of them one you just go
1828s faster when you're further behind
1829s um
1832s and two you get better gear when you're
1833s further behind let's catch up
1836s but that one there's a really
1838s unbelievably clear and easy way to say
1841s who is behind and how far behind are
1843s they like that's really obvious
1846s that that metric is almost impossible
1847s for us to define
1855s because like say there's a
1860s uh there can be multiple objective
1861s points and you can be splitting up to go
1863s to specific ones and then it's like okay
1865s we're gonna send this one person off to
1867s another objective
1868s and it's actually faster for us all to
1870s just stand here
1872s at the at the like the branching point
1875s while you go and do that objective
1877s because if we all stand here you would
1878s do that objective on your way back to us
1880s because we're in a big group you'll get
1881s to go faster
1883s and that's really unfun when it's like
1885s the best thing i can do for the party to
1886s go faster is literally nothing stand
1889s here and wait that's boring
1892s and and opening up the strategies like
1894s that is
1895s is really difficult to
1897s avoid and if you do have strategies like
1900s that they are not well received when you
1902s take them away
1918s most of everything i've talked about
1919s today with regards to this is something
1921s is stuff that we've gone over in
1922s meetings this is not the top of my head
1923s for the most part
1925s um so as you can see this is something
1926s we are talking about this is an active
1928s discussion this is not just uh oh my god
1931s another key
1938s uh
1939s so we have four keys and we're 32
1941s minutes in
1949s that's a little weird
1951s that's it's definitely uh
1953s extremely good luck
1955s it's fun if you're not getting keys at
1957s that rate do not be surprised
1961s just turn streamer mode on and

1982s support for scaling meaning build around
1984s them in the future possibly um
1987s one of the things mirror images are a uh
1990s hotly debated
1991s mechanic in mage in general
1995s i love them
1996s i think mirror images is like a key
1999s thematic uh style for mages i think it's
2002s really important
2003s it's a nice
2004s fire damaging night um
2007s i think it's a really key thing for
2010s uh mage to have as like a fantasy to do
2013s um
2014s we really don't want mages to be a pet
2017s class
2018s for the most part that's that's the like
2020s we class identity is a big part of our
2022s game design pillars and um
2025s we want to have
2028s some classes that aren't great with
2029s minions and some classes that are great
2031s with minions and you know not having
2033s that be just like okay well what's the
2035s mages minion spec what's the primeless
2038s minion spec what's the sentinel's minion
2039s spec like we don't we don't want that to
2041s happen
2042s and that's why you're gonna see falconer
2044s um
2045s be different than a normal minion spec
2047s because it's not a minion spec because
2048s we're trying not to have rogue minions
2050s back that much
2051s and that's why shadows are different
2053s like they're um
2055s they're not like normal minions right
2056s like there's these mechanics we use to
2058s make them different and i would say that
2059s i personally would like mirror images to
2061s seem more like shadows than minions
2064s um
2066s where they're this this like extension
2068s of you used to conf like used to confuse
2071s the enemy
2073s used to increase your
2075s magic damage potential or maybe reduce
2077s the power of each hit by increasing the
2079s number of hits for different synergies
2081s things like that
2083s and i think that's definitely possible
2087s something we'll have to look at
2093s ah community design subclass mode live
2096s on stream that'll be pretty cool

2099s i mean
2101s we pay attention to the forums and
2102s suggestions to get posted on discord and
2103s everything so if you've got suggestions
2105s for things like that can't hurt to post
2107s them i know it's hard to make
2108s suggestions on a system that you don't
2109s know much about of what's already been
2111s designed

2115s but sometimes we see suggestions for
2117s things that we use other places
2118s sometimes we see suggestions for things
2120s that fit surprisingly well sometimes we
2122s see suggestions that are so good in line
2123s systems that we change how the system's
2125s gonna work entirely to match that that's
2127s happened before
2131s i can't think of an example of it right
2133s now but i know it's happened

2271s ones for some easier achievements and

2274s uh oh you're the first person to reach
2276s level 100 in the new cycle
2283s so a little some more exclusive ones i
2285s think that would be cool

2990s be something you could start with

2997s cosmetically we're different for it you
2998s wouldn't have access to it to unlock the

3252s you're probably a really powerful

3270s are that are a little a little tough

3282s and and joel were being overtuned is a
3284s big part of that which is fine i'm not
3285s gonna debate whether or not that's true

3297s difficulty oh yeah the mechanics
3299s actually change tier to tier
3302s so the time between
3304s her large aoe like i'mma kill everything
3307s in this you gotta jump the time between
3309s those shrinks as you go out higher in

3316s and there's a couple other other things
3318s that are a little bit a little bit like
3319s bigger a little bit more difficult a
3320s little bit faster moving

3323s and and maybe that's a little bit too

3328s it does take learning the fight really
3329s well to be able to do those
3335s um i know that's tough to do because
3336s it's tough to get keys to learn really
3337s well but it's a it's a process i guess

3518s um and the power level difference
3519s between them is really not much at all

3526s like that but that's about it

3533s it's it's really pretty pretty similar
3535s power level between 90 and 100 there's
3537s not a lot that changes

3547s i think it happens too quick right now
3548s so i i can see that being something

3558s time spent post 100 anyways

3617s started playing wow in wow classic like

3622s burning crusade is when i started
3623s playing so that's that's where my wow
3625s knowledge comes from i played for
3627s uh two two expansions
3630s um anyways the uh

3638s what they were well is you you wear them
3640s and every time you get a kill or gain
3641s experience with this tabard on you gain
3643s reputation towards a certain faction
3650s and then you can use that that
3651s experience or that reputation to to buy

3659s gear actually which was cool
3661s but i i would say there's
3663s a good use for late game experience in a
3666s system like that
3670s i'd really like to see that
3674s i think you could uh theme them around
3676s the gods as factions really easily
3684s then have like a god hunter faction or
3686s something like that where it's like an
3687s anti-god faction or something and
3694s then that also adds in a really easy way
3696s to add new factions down the road
3700s uh with content so i think there's a lot
3702s of space there which would be really
3702s cool
3704s that's what i'd like to see

3779s there's always builds that will
3783s thrive at certain tasks

3787s a lot of that has to do with the variety
3789s of content so for example
3791s arena that i'm standing in right now is
3793s a great example that having
3795s uh long distance movement skills to
3797s advance through a zone quickly is
3800s completely useless here
3801s um
3802s it is useful to have fast repositioning
3804s abilities so like shift really shines in
3806s an arena setting because you can quickly
3808s reposition out of um oncoming attacks
3811s great um volatile reversals really
3814s shines in arena because you can quickly
3816s move yourself out of um
3818s danger and stuff like that but it
3819s doesn't actually help you
3821s shift kind of does but it doesn't help
3822s you just zoom through a level super
3824s super fast
3825s um
3826s and so i think that
3829s just by the nature of having varied
3830s content you're gonna see builds that
3832s that thrive in certain situations and
3835s other builds thrive in other situations
3837s just naturally so there's always going
3838s to be like this character just because i
3840s can make this build
3842s really focus on
3844s all the damage types that are in this
3846s this area like um
3848s uh sulfide bastion it's like physical
3850s fire necrotic you can basically ignore
3853s every other resistance
3854s in that place there's a little bit of
3856s some of the other ones but basically you
3858s just ignore everything else so you can
3859s go into there with like your gear can be
3862s specifically set up your character can
3863s specifically set up just like ignore
3865s cold resistance ignore poison resistance
3867s there might be a little point in there
3868s but my point is is that like
3871s you can tune your build to the content
3872s you're doing really easily in a lot of
3874s different situations
3877s and it can help a lot
3880s let's do that why not i'll figure out
3882s that later
3883s i always say that the bill just gets
3885s really janky um
3890s so i while i think we and then there's
3893s like all-round builds where it's like
3895s okay this can do basically anything
3896s maybe it doesn't do anything
3898s great but it can do basically anything
3900s and i think that's fine too and i think
3902s that um
3905s as long as it's not considered
3909s like
3912s as long as we don't get into the
3913s situation it okay it's a balancing act
3916s and i i can see us making minor
3919s balancing adjustments
3921s to uh to improve
3923s this type of thing
3924s and when i say improve i guess i mean um
3928s avoid situations where there's like
3931s content that maybe there's two builds
3933s that can do so so let's use the l2 as an
3935s example and the um
3938s uh pandemonium event chaos tristram
3940s uber uber diablo uber mephisto and uber

3951s really
3953s really difficult
3955s almost impossible to do that content on
3958s well i'm going to say pre-patched g4
3960s cause i haven't actually played 24 yet

3963s um if anyone doesn't know there was very
3965s recently a major balance change to uh
3967s diablo 2 the first one in over a decade
3970s unbelievably exciting can't wait to try
3972s it out and play it more i'm kind of
3973s waiting for the ladder to reset

3977s anyways the the like the final hardest
3980s thing to do in that game

3984s a couple classes kind of can't really do
3986s it
3987s they can
3989s um pulling it off on an amazon is really
3992s hard pulling it off on a druid is really
3996s hard

3999s there's like a couple sorceress builds
4001s that can do it and they're weird
4002s sorcerer's builds too like
4005s um and and when you get like
4008s full godly gear set up and you're just
4010s like i am

4013s let me let me look at every piece of
4014s gear in the game let me like write down
4016s the absolute best in slot for everything
4018s which is almost impossible to do in that
4019s game yes you can you can find a build
4022s for every class that can do it but for
4024s most people with a reasonable amount of
4025s time there's a lot of character classes
4028s that just can't do it
4029s um and then you have a paladin
4032s that i there's a video that came out a
4033s little while ago of someone doing it
4035s like level 32 or something ridiculous
4038s and not even that perfect gear at the
4041s end of the video they were like looking
4042s at their ring and they're like oh my god
4044s this ring is like plus four health
4047s there's like basically they did a super
4049s level missing a piece and they're like a
4050s key piece of gear
4053s and and so there's like there's a lot of
4055s disparity in that and that's an extreme
4056s example and if we get that far
4059s there's something wrong and we want it
4060s we want to fix it
4062s but if if we're looking at it where
4065s um
4066s people are building specialized maybe
4069s like they're late game
4070s they've they're it's late in the season
4073s or it's in standard league and they're
4074s like they've got these like really
4075s specialized characters to complete this
4077s content really well but they've got
4078s other characters that could do it just
4080s not as quickly
4081s i think that's totally fine
4083s i don't see a problem with that myself

4086s that might not that viewpoint might not
4088s be agreed with by everyone on the team
4090s so i don't want to
4091s um
4092s i can't say we've had major
4093s conversations about this recently
4099s but so i i feel like we would take
4100s balancing steps to ensure that
4102s most content was completable by most
4105s reasonable builds
4106s but i don't want to say all content with
4108s all builds because

4110s there's some weird ones out there but

4112s there's like there should be probably at
4114s least one way to build each class that
4117s should be able to do all types of
4118s content

4173s pure rogue for the last couple months
4175s um i'm having a ton of fun with it i've
4178s been basically playing this this
4179s character i'm playing right now in
4180s multiplayer

4183s just it's nowhere near as good in
4185s multiplayer because i play
4187s actually actually weekly i play the same
4189s amount of each character right now but
4191s um
4194s the uh
4197s this one started
4198s like 40 levels higher 50 levels higher
4210s and there's stuff that doesn't work in
4211s multiplayer yet so
4212s it's hard to
4214s get quite as much out of it
4219s uh my first time seeing this game how is
4221s it different from other games like it oh

4226s we work on it it's pretty cool i like it
4229s um i would say one of the key things
4231s that sets last epoch apart from most
4234s other games like it is our skill system
4237s so every single skill
4239s asterisk has a
4242s skill tree that goes with it
4245s i say asterisk because there's one that
4246s doesn't but it will
4248s um

4250s and so uh you specialize in five skills
4253s um typically people use those five
4255s specialized skills in their bar there's
4256s a few times where you don't um
4259s and
4260s they go up to level 20 you can get items
4262s that push it above the 20 threshold um
4265s and you specialize and build the skill
4268s tree out for each skill and they're
4270s unique skill trees for each skill
4275s so the amount of
4277s like you can it's kind of like a a build
4279s a skill system where you can kind of
4281s make your own skills um within the the
4285s confines that we've given you so like um
4290s it lets us do it's very similar in a
4293s sense there's a lot of similarities to
4294s path of exile's um
4296s skill gem system where you can kind of
4298s build a skill right with uh with support
4300s gems
4302s the big difference is that we can make
4305s really specific things on these nodes
4308s for these trees because it's like
4311s because we don't have to worry about
4312s those support gems or those nodes
4314s working on any other skill tree
4316s so the the nodes can be really
4317s transformative really interesting and
4319s and change the skill very heavily so
4321s it's almost unrecognizable
4323s um sometimes that that is just something
4325s a little like an element change um
4330s but we don't want to have the ability to
4332s change and this is part of the reason
4333s why we can do this is because
4335s um while we may want fireball to be able
4337s to be like we have a node and fireball
4339s that lets you add lightning damage to it
4340s so it becomes a plasma ball so it's fire
4342s and lightning there's no way to make
4344s fireball into a frost ball so we don't
4346s have to have like just a
4348s fire
4349s um
4351s or a lightning conversion support gem
4353s that works on anything and a frost
4354s conversion of that works on anything we
4356s can pick which things these
4358s conversion gems or support nodes work on
4360s type thing
4362s so we have other ones like a volcanic
4364s orb which is if you play dl2 it's very
4366s similar to frozen orb just a fire
4368s version um and it has a node in there
4370s that converts it to
4371s frozen orb but there's nothing in there
4373s that converts it to lightning
4377s that's a really basic example of that
4381s i think that's the
4382s one of the most
4383s distinctive things

4691s unique that that will be accepted in the

4696s forge is reduced by one so say you're
4698s like okay i've got a little 50 unique i
4700s want to make into a legendary and i'm
4702s doing one that lets me do level 80 or 80
4704s or lower you have 30 attempts you know
4706s it's kind of a weird way to do it but
4708s yeah there's
4709s there's some wiggle room in there
4710s possibly i i don't know what we would do
4712s for it i do like the idea of having
4714s multiple attempts i think 30 is too many

4716s whatever there's it's a discussion we

4730s uh one distinctive thing is the mastery
4733s system with a basic mastery in advanced

4741s this is our passive system so your base
4743s class i've picked a rogue these are
4746s these are my passives it goes up to the
4747s right increasing to the right once you
4748s get to 20 of them
4751s and you unlock a master you gain access
4753s to the mastery so
4754s um
4756s master passives and skills to go with it
4757s so i have selected marksman but there's
4759s also blade dancer and will eventually be
4760s falconer as well so there's three
4761s mastery classes per base class
4764s um and you can kind of multi-class i've
4766s i've gone into blade dancer a little bit
4767s i wanted these five points um
4770s just like dexterity and glancing blow
4772s chance so
4774s it's good it's good note i might put
4775s more into it later
4777s um and you can only get it up to the
4778s bottom half
4780s multi-classing so i don't have access to
4781s these at all because they're in the
4782s upper half of blade dancer and then as a
4784s marksman i get these extra bonuses for
4786s just being a marksman i get this skill
4788s and because i'm pretty far into marksman
4790s i get
4790s all these skills as well access to
4794s these are all the skills i have access
4795s to these are the blade dancer skills
4796s that i don't have access to because
4797s they're greyed out
4799s um and right now rogue has the fewest
4801s skills of any class by quite a large
4803s margin it's missing a base class skill
4805s it's missing a mastery class a
4808s base class passive unlock skill
4810s it's messing one blade dancer skill one
4812s marksman skill and five falconer skills

5874s only way we found to actually make it

5877s good still is by capping the maximum per
5880s ailment type at 15.

5888s to fix so there's no cap and it just

6026s like increases or decreases the total

6038s uh to compare two builds to each other

6043s that you can say like this one's better
6045s because it does
6047s um like it's got 4 million dps okay well
6051s this one has 10 million dps okay the 10
6053s million dps one's better
6055s like there's just there's this number
6057s that you can compare them together with
6060s um and and not having that number i
6063s think helps a lot

6066s and i could be wrong i i don't know i
6067s don't really evidence really back this
6068s claim up it's is that the
6071s not having that number
6073s increases the bill diversity because
6075s even if you have build guides that
6077s people are following it's really hard to
6078s say like
6079s conclusively this one's better

6084s and so you end up with maybe not a
6086s different number of builds but maybe a a
6089s larger distribution across those builds

6093s the play style is taken into greater
6095s account when selecting which build you
6097s want so it's it's instead of just like
6100s um oh i've this build does 10000 dps and
6103s this build does 20 000 dps it's
6105s both of these builds can complete
6107s t4 jewelry and i like the way this one
6110s plays better
6112s and i i think that's kind of what ends
6114s up happening which i think is positive

6119s i'd wanna have a lot more data to back
6121s that claim out before i
6123s said anything conclusive about it really

6437s sound as well so there's now we actually
6440s made a bunch of new tech for sound
6442s events just in general for hammer throw
6445s so there's now like a unique sound for
6447s when they're rotating around you there's
6449s a unique sound for when they start
6451s returning to you if they're in return
6453s mode and and like you catch them there's
6455s a different sound there as well

6464s so there's lots of new new visuals for
6466s hammer throw i really think it's a big
6467s improvement personally
6472s it was an old school hammer throws like
6473s one of our first skills i think it's
6475s really important to have the skills that
6476s are unlocked really early so like flurry
6478s shurikens shift acid flask having these
6481s skills that you start the game with
6482s being really solid getting that good
6483s first impression is important

6488s what's your opinion on the current state
6489s of summon bear skill from prime list it
6492s is really old
6494s and
6495s um we've learned a lot of really good
6498s things about how to make good skills
6500s since we last worked on prime list
6503s primal summon bear
6505s and it needs a lot of those principles
6507s applied to it in order to make it be
6510s not terrible
6518s some bear is high on my list of rework
6520s skills
6521s so saber tooth

6525s the visuals need to be updated for them
6526s as well
6528s uh and we do a lot of work on visuals in
6530s conjunction with functionality for
6532s skills now so we um
6534s before we updated the functionality for
6536s the skills and and
6539s like get new animations and new uh new
6541s visuals on on the the bear itself and
6544s saber tooth itself for like say like
6546s there's like a cold note on the
6547s saber-tooth and how those visuals get
6548s applied to the savory skin we wanted to
6551s have the most up-to-date
6553s version of that the version we're gonna
6555s release with on that before we started
6556s doing those making those changes

6707s but if you give yourself like a specific

6716s building building a commander deck for
6718s magic it's the thing that i have a lot
6719s of experience with um
6721s and so you can
6724s uh
6725s like build a a deck with no restrictions
6727s and you'll put
6729s uh arcane cigna into that deck you'll
6731s put soul ring in that deck you'll put
6732s command tower in that deck
6734s um
6736s you'll put like there's a good chance
6737s you'll put it like i just need generic
6739s cards because they work in basically
6740s anything you put like a scroll rack in
6741s that deck like you'll put there's a lot
6743s of things that you'll put in decks
6744s because they're just good and they just
6745s go in anything
6746s um it's kind of boring but it's you know
6749s it works or whatever uh and then
6752s say you put a restriction on that deck
6755s like
6755s uh suddenly you can only have and this
6758s is something i've done and it's
6759s ridiculous so you can only use odd
6762s converted mana cost skills or now it's
6764s called mana value so
6766s um cards that cost three one three five
6769s seven nine
6772s eleven thirteen fifteen
6774s are there fifteens oh there's fifteen
6775s now one just got made that fifteen
6777s it's probably a few more before it
6778s anyways um
6782s point is as soon as you do that all
6783s those a lot of those cards i just said
6786s you can't you can't put them in the deck
6787s anymore and you have to find different
6788s ways different creative ways to achieve
6790s the same goal
6792s and i think that's a really that makes
6794s it really interesting and then like
6797s on top of that you put another stretch
6798s down maybe only rare and mythic cards
6799s you can't put comments on comments which
6800s seems weird but like are you making a
6803s three-man value
6804s or an odd value deck
6807s um
6810s and you can only use rare cards suddenly
6811s you can't use things like
6813s um
6814s cultivate kadama's reach and like really
6817s common green rant spells and there's
6818s like these things that you just like put
6819s into every deck that works that i can go
6821s in so you just can't
6823s and
6824s it really gives you these um forces you
6827s look at creative solutions to these
6828s problems and i i think that type of
6831s philosophy can be applied basically
6833s anywhere
6835s if there's a
6836s uh a system like this and
6839s i think it works really well in the um
6846s like with skills as well like say you
6848s were gonna be like okay i'm only gonna
6849s use skills with a fire tag
6852s and
6853s um
6854s the movement skill you normally use
6856s doesn't have a fire tag so you have to
6858s like find a creative way to still move
6859s quickly across the map maybe that's like
6862s um
6863s using to send in
6865s uh descend nodes in uh smite and so
6869s using smite is like a teleport instead
6871s of its normal abilities
6876s these look exactly the same just more
6877s damage more health
6880s oh i'm staring at that for so long sorry
6885s so i i don't this is this is the talking
6888s about the fire tags on every single
6889s skill
6891s i
6895s i i think that if every skill has every
6897s conversion
6899s those restrictions are less
6903s like there's there's less restrictions
6904s and you end up with staple skills more
6906s frequently so you end up with situations
6908s where it's just like well every bill is
6910s going to use this and there are staple
6911s skills that work really well and and i
6914s think that
6915s is
6916s you know i'm not a huge fan of the fact
6917s there's so many stable skills in a few
6919s classes i think rogue's probably the
6920s worst for it but partially that has to
6922s do with the the volume of skills rogue
6924s has i think as well
6927s um and that's something that we'll see
6929s change over time as we get more mastery
6931s classes as we get more base classes as
6933s we just add more skills to the classes
6934s that exist as we add more items you know
6937s all those things change
6938s um
6942s and then on top of that why do some
6943s skills not have certain uh tags it's
6945s just the skill identity um
6950s and somebody was talking about a little
6951s bit earlier how we have like fireball
6953s has you can add lightning damage to it
6955s but you can't add cold damage to it
6959s um i think that's because like the skill
6962s identity of fireball
6965s is such that
6968s it makes a lot more sense to convert it
6969s to lighting or add lightning to it and
6971s have this plasma ball thing but as soon
6973s as you have but trying to make it cold
6975s it completely changes the identity of
6978s the skill
6980s um
6981s and i know i know forge guard
6983s thematically fires very heavy presence
6986s and sometimes we add
6988s extra conversions or
6990s tag editions through items as well
6994s and sometimes the reason we do that is
6995s to make it mutually exclusive with other
6998s things that could make them too
7001s strong it's a game it's another
7003s restriction
7004s because it's suddenly like okay well
7005s you're going to make a let's say rive
7007s had a fire sword that gave rive
7010s uh or or um it is right say this is a
7014s sword that gave rival fire mode um but
7016s all of a sudden you can't use this other
7018s sword that like double drives damage
7020s um i know it's kind of a weird example
7025s but then suddenly you have this
7026s restriction um okay i'm gonna make a
7028s fire arrive build i have this
7029s restriction where i can't use any other
7031s weapon it happens this one weapon so
7033s it's it
7035s makes you get creative about the other
7036s things that those i think the better
7038s example is say there was um
7042s say that weapon uh
7044s gave mana back on ride views or
7045s something like that and that you sustain
7046s it so they used to find a new way to get
7047s mana back and that's a better example
7052s let's go arena key
7062s you talked about how you guys want to
7064s change how flat melee damage works to
7066s make it more
7068s uh like adaptive spell damage is that
7070s coming next patch um i don't know when
7072s that's coming um
7074s the timeline on next patch might be
7075s different than we're used to as well
7077s um
7080s i i think that
7082s there's a

7086s have that in a testing state yet we
7088s don't we don't have a version of that
7090s that we're like working on or anything

7094s it's mostly theoretical at this point

7105s it'll probably be worded as and spell

7125s implicits will will switch that's the

7133s just take the word physical out of there
