1233s to bring them up to current standards is
1235s that process basically the same as
1236s designing a new skill or is a much
1237s simpler process
1239s um there's a lot of similarities with
1240s that in designing a new skill uh the
1242s biggest difference I think is the fact
1244s that we do have expectations
1246s um to not ruin builds that already exist
1249s so even if even if a skill is really old
1251s there's sometimes
1253s um very popular builds that the skill
1254s fits into and
1257s um I think there's like a general
1258s expectation that we don't ruin the build
1261s type thing
1263s um and we and we don't let that stand in
1266s the way of us making something that's
1267s fun or making something that's new and
1269s interesting or or like that's a good
1271s skill like we that's that's a secondary
1274s consideration I think but it is still
1276s something that we
1278s um
1279s so funny when they do that uh it it is
1283s still something that's that we need to
1285s be aware of and be cautious of
1288s um
1289s and then at the same time there's also
1291s we'll we'll look at it and say okay we
1293s already have this functionality with it
1296s um so is is there things are things we
1298s want to keep things we like
1300s um and that speeds stuff up as well
1301s because we won't need to do as much work
1304s so there's there's already like
1305s functionality in there

1308s it also depends how old it is so if it's
1310s like really old well uh we'll we'll
1314s sometimes be a little bit more
1316s aggressive with the old scalpel

1323s but yeah it's uh it's pretty similar if
1326s if they're if they're really really old
1328s skills so like for example saber tooth
1330s uh we haven't started that rework yet

1432s it's a lot of Caspian resistances though
1435s another question I bought the game last
1437s week cool and had a look at your
1439s Kickstarter out of curiosity I saw
1440s something called the passive grid there
1443s which looked wild is that still coming
1445s or is that idea discarded
1447s that okay so that's that's a throwback I
1449s haven't I haven't talked about this in a
1450s long time I'm gonna I'm gonna grab a
1453s picture of this because that's actually
1454s really interesting
1456s um
1459s let's go get an image
1462s this the the passive grid um is is gone
1465s it is not being replaced it's not coming
1467s back or it has been replaced it's not
1469s coming back
1470s um that was the first version of our
1474s passive
1476s um
1480s passive tree so that was the that turned
1482s into this
1484s and you actually see lot of similarities
1486s there still so um if you'll notice
1489s there's like your base class and you've
1491s got three specializations to to go down
1493s to focus on
1495s um that each have specific passive
1497s bonuses related to that specialization
1499s and then specific uh nodes that go with
1502s it in certain certain some of them have
1503s connections like that individual
1505s connections
1508s um and so like just looking at that
1510s basic

1572s these there's these four axes going out

1583s and and what you would do is you would
1584s put points into one of the four squares
1587s in the middle
1588s and it would extend out along the axis
1591s line
1592s and any space that was covered in the
1595s resulting
1596s area that connected between the four
1598s different axis line edges were nodes
1600s that were available it's basically
1602s cooling of this line here that's moving
1603s up as you put points in
1605s um and you could put points into
1606s anything that was touching the
1608s highlighted area and certain certain
1611s nodes required other nodes to go into
1614s um so it's like you can the similarities
1615s are are very heavy here
1618s um and we had the the big thing that
1620s made this work was we ended up having to
1622s have two types of points as you can see
1624s the top there's access points and node
1626s points and so the access points lets you
1629s travel along the axes and the node
1630s points that you put them into the actual
1632s nodes
1633s and then you also get um bonuses based
1636s on the different uh quantity into each
1639s axis you have that lets you then
1641s specialize into a specific type so
1644s there's if you put points specifically
1646s into like the blue and the purple one
1647s you'd be going into the scholar subtype
1650s for mage or if you put points into the
1652s red and the green one you'd be putting
1654s you'd be going into the battle mage
1656s subtype which as we now know have
1658s evolved into masteries of sorceress
1660s building Rune master
1662s um
1663s and yeah so this was this is our
1665s original passive system idea
1668s um and I think there's a lot of really
1669s good bones here and there's a lot of
1671s really interesting stuff but it has some
1672s really inherent problems that we just
1674s couldn't break through and we we
1676s scrapped the idea
1678s um I'd really like to see something like
1680s this show back up as a like
1684s um
1685s I like like a separate mechanic specific
1688s like like a classless mechanic that
1690s interacts with something in the game
1692s World
1693s um and that's super vague but like
1695s um like like a dungeon reward or uh like
1699s another another maybe another end game
1701s system as a whole I I don't know
1704s um but I'd love to see something that
1705s kind of uses borrow some ideas here uh
1708s to to touch and touch on those things
1713s it was
1715s it was really
1718s too complicated it was it was over
1720s complicated

1723s and
1726s it just didn't just didn't quite fit
1730s so yeah that's what that is it's gone
1733s it's not coming back

1740s that was that was a system that I
1742s championed a lot in the early days
1746s um and was I'll admit it was that was
1748s tough to see go for me especially
1752s um I I had a tough time with that like
1754s it's it wasn't like a uh
1757s like fight or anything like that about
1759s it but like it was just like I knew it
1761s had to go
1763s um It's just tough to see something that
1765s you you work on a lot and are really
1766s involved in the creation originally and
1768s it's just to see it disappear so that
1770s was that was tough but it was definitely
1773s an improvement like we we it was the
1775s right decision
1777s um at the time I knew it was the right
1778s decision I do not regret changing it at
1781s all
1788s we look so a little bit of damage output
1790s here you know it's getting a little
1790s better

2156s doing warlock this week actually

2159s design we're still in the design phase

2243s other masteries that they're that

2251s trying to I'm trying to think like what
2253s can I say it's not a lot that I'm really

2257s um when we get closer to having they're
2259s not coming out until 1.0 so like there's
2261s a long way off on them

2264s and uh once you get closer to having
2267s those we'll we'll have more info

2270s but right right now they're very much uh
2272s concepting stage

2279s upgrades coming next patch yeah well
2281s things like logon's hitbox for example
2283s the Engine strikes working janky and
2284s Emperor of corpses being able to be
2286s pushed around too much get fixed those
2288s those are definitely unrelated to the
2290s combat updates that we're doing
2291s um those are just bugs
2293s um and the the things that we'd like to
2297s to improve and work on all those sorts
2299s of stuff but it's um very much unrelated
2301s I don't think either of those things are
2303s fixed right now they might be
2306s um
2307s but they are on the list
2312s look at that exalted chest
2324s just started playing every game of the
2326s game when multiplayer hits I'm gonna go

2346s it's a very cool one
2348s uh will you make the bow available to
2350s other classes I love the idea of a bow
2351s acolyte running with Arch with other
2353s with archer skeletons

2357s um one of the primary pillars of design
2360s we have for the game is class identity
2363s um so that that is kind of a broad term
2366s for saying if you can make something
2368s unique about a class and have it feel
2370s really cool and interesting uh do it and
2374s um so right now one of the things that's
2375s unique about a marksman is that it uses
2378s a bow
2379s um and that's that's kind of the Crux of
2382s that mastery's identity right now
2385s um and it's not only that there's a lot
2387s of other things too for sure but that's
2388s that's a big big big part of it so

2394s what's what's the like
2396s you know
2397s what's the chances of us adding bows to
2399s other classes it's possible there's a
2401s few
2402s um
2403s there's a few really good
2405s uh opportunities for it and things that
2407s we've definitely discussed and looked at
2409s there's nothing that's planned yet

2413s that doesn't mean it's never going to
2415s happen that doesn't mean it's off table
2415s or anything like that but it's just it's
2417s it's not uh
2420s we're not like okay well this skill is
2421s gonna be a better skill uh we'd also
2423s would probably make them hybrid skills
2424s so we need another skill that's a melee
2426s ability to have via a

2430s a meleebo skill to use
2433s um or or like make a new skill so
2435s there's uh there's only one melee

2463s space to put it on acolyte right now
2465s there'd have to be a new skill that
2468s would come along at the same time
2470s maybe they wouldn't have to be maybe it
2472s could be a bow only skill
2474s um but a boat only skill on a class that
2477s has almost zero bow support that's
2480s tricky
2481s um so then what's the other options the
2482s other options are
2485s um abilities that and something we don't
2488s have right now in the game may never
2490s have but it's it's technically possible
2492s we could do in a weird way
2495s um none of these are planned just saying
2498s it's it's not out of the question
2500s because I know sometimes I say those
2501s people like oh my God it's coming
2502s slowly roll
2504s um the you could have a specializable
2507s skill granted by an item so you could
2510s maybe there's like a unique bow and it
2511s grants a specializable skill
2515s whole bunch of stuff we'd have to design
2517s and function workout functionality wise
2519s before that could even be tried but
2520s that's kind of the other option to put a
2523s bow ability on any class is you see you
2527s make it so that the
2528s um the item grants the ability
2533s um so yeah there's this is something
2535s we've looked at for sure and there's
2536s something we've dug into a little bit if
2538s I was going to pick another
2541s um another class to put bow
2544s compatibility on it would be um the
2547s first choice for me and I think for a
2549s lot of people would be prime list
2551s um because it already has an ability
2552s that would work really well as a
2554s bowability and serpent strike
2557s um so you could you could have that
2558s melee bow hybrid
2561s um and I I think that would work really
2563s well so I I'd say that's likely to to be
2567s uh what would happen first if if there
2570s was gonna be uh

2574s another class that we get it I think I
2576s think you'd be looking there I think

2579s Sentinel has some good options

2713s um I I think one of the big
2716s uh upsides to
2719s uh to having that like uniqueness across
2722s the classes is you're not looking for
2723s the same items
2725s um all the time you're you're looking
2726s for different items most the time and
2728s like you get
2730s I guess like a good opposite example of
2732s this is and I always whenever I use
2734s Diablo 2 is a bad example I always feel
2736s terrible with myself because I'm like uh
2738s I love that game but yeah so there's
2739s there are things that it doesn't do
2741s amazing for example Shaco is way too
2744s ubiquitous that's I think shaco's not a
2747s good item for the game's itemization
2749s help because you can pretty well

2754s almost every and there's a few
2756s exceptions to this but like almost every
2758s item when you pick up a helmet you're
2759s just like is it better than Shaco
2761s that's that's the that's the line and
2764s almost always the answer is just no
2767s um or sometimes
2771s there's and there's like a few classes
2772s that really need specific items and
2773s everything like that but like
2776s you can pretty well always slap a Shaker
2777s on something that's good right really

2786s having more specialized things helps
2789s avoid that a little bit
2796s so having throwing be more of a sentinel
2800s Rogue type ability is likely going to
2804s stay primarily there
2806s um like again you could have an item

2811s there's there's interesting things you
2812s can do with that too but it's yeah
2816s it's possible but not likely soon there
2818s are no throwing abilities for classes

4088s there was a chance that you could
4089s fracture an item which is essentially
4091s the same as running out of forging

4094s um but it could happen just out of
4096s nowhere where you'd be like first craft
4098s fractured great that sucks
4101s um and it was pretty problematic but
4103s there's
4105s um
4106s you you would have to fracture a crown
4109s item in the crafting system at a chance
4110s when it fractured to turn into the
4112s fractured Crown unique which is where it
4114s got its name from
4116s um I will say that the because we don't
4118s have fracturing anymore in the game
4120s um the system's not identical however it
4123s is very reminiscent
4125s of the old system
4128s um and and combined with new mechanics
4130s that we use for getting unique items out
4133s of the crafting system

4482s just not having these multipliers

4493s yeah just like just like more damage
4495s like the skill leveling up so I'll get
4496s how to say this in um uh cdl2 as an
4500s example as you level up a skill
4502s um as you put points into that skill it
4504s doesn't do it doesn't change
4505s mechanically very much very often
4508s um I mean some of them do like uh as you
4510s put more points into someone's skeleton
4511s you get more maximum skeletons you can
4513s summon but most of them like for example
4515s let's use Fireball it's just firewall
4517s does more damage
4518s all right well there's more damage I
4520s also end up costing more Mana
4522s um but yeah firewall does more damage
4526s and um which which kind of effectively
4528s is like there are different nodes in
4530s different trees for like this kind of
4532s like super like single node skill trees
4533s and we considered having an effect
4537s um for each skilled skill tree that was
4540s unique to that skill based on the number
4541s of nodes invested
4543s um
4544s so for example things like
4547s have like Fireball nodes and the points
4549s invested in Fireball for every Point
4551s invest in Fireball it does two percent
4552s more damage or whatever and see 20
4554s points invested and it's basically like
4556s having a 40 more damage multiplier on
4558s the skill at max level compared to what
4560s it is at base level
4562s so yeah we have considered doing that
4564s um
4566s one of the big reasons we don't actually
4568s have that is
4571s um
4572s we struggled a lot to come up with good
4575s examples on how to do that for abilities
4577s like teleport for example
4580s um
4582s because quite often there is there's
4584s like a subset of abilities that are kind
4586s of like the whole one point Wonder
4587s abilities that actually do work decently
4590s well without investing into them
4592s um and we kind of like having those and
4595s as soon as you have those
4597s um usually the per Point investment
4601s changes uh for a skill and a skill just
4604s that's just like a base skill level up
4606s change on non-combat abilities for
4609s example teleport the obvious things to
4611s scale are Mana cost and cooldown
4613s um because it's basically all it is is
4615s just uh man across cooldown move uh at
4618s base
4620s um
4621s you you end up having to
4624s uh you end up with the final version of
4626s the skill either being so
4629s freaking
4631s fast and cheap and amazing just from the
4634s base
4635s um or you have the base skill just being
4638s unbelievably terrible to use because
4641s there's this interesting thing that
4642s happens when you unlock a new skill and
4643s you already have we've got to fix for
4645s that by the way that like running to the
4646s left every time yeah we've got a fix for
4649s it
4650s um just just was discovered the fix I
4652s think yesterday anyways
4654s um
4656s and what was I saying uh oh yeah like
4660s when you unlock a new skill there's no
4661s points in it and quite often what a lot
4663s of people do is when they unlock a new
4664s skill first thing they do is they just
4666s put on the bar and try and see how it
4667s feels
4669s um and if you have none especially
4670s non-combat skills like teleports the
4671s prime example here
4673s um you stick teleport in your bar you
4674s use it once and you're like oh that had
4677s a 15 second cooldown at base and costs
4681s 30 mana and I'm level 10 or whatever and
4683s it's like that was awful
4686s um and so having those those initial
4687s impacts and the abilities
4689s um
4691s and also just combined with the
4694s the fact that it's kind of interesting
4696s to be able to build a skill for utility
4698s specifically and not focus on the damage
4700s and and having those Universal uh
4703s effects on these skills really do steer
4707s them one note frequently so someone so
4710s the other flip side of this is say
4711s someone wants to really make their
4713s Fireball
4715s um like the big the whole point of
4716s firewall is to apply ignites to as many
4718s things as possible simultaneously to be
4721s able to trigger some effect off of
4722s having ignited targets
4725s and you don't care how much damage
4726s Fireball actually is doing at all all
4729s you care about is that it's applying
4730s ignite to as many things as possible
4733s um but what Fireball does when it levels
4734s up is it just gets more damage
4735s multiplier
4736s great that's doing basically nothing for
4739s you
4740s um and so it takes away that
4742s decision-making moment of do I want to
4744s put points into it being a damage
4746s ability or more of a utility ability and
4749s we think that's an interesting decision
4750s to make
4751s um most of the time yeah it is just more
4754s damage there you go
4756s um and I think the solution is likely
4760s um dialing back the amount of just more
4763s damage nodes that are available on on
4766s skills that have like six of those
4767s already
4769s um and more bringing them into
4770s conditional the more damage nodes uh
4772s bringing them into uh just just maybe
4775s more damage for fewer points in some
4777s situations or just reducing the total
4779s number of points investable so instead
4780s of a five point node it's a three-point
4781s node let's say
4783s um and then uh and then and then skewing
4786s some of that balance for power onto
4788s items a little bit more
4790s um and we've talked about what this is a
4791s few times
4794s uh where it's likely going to be
4796s something along the lines of those
4798s conditions because it could change a lot
4800s um having the so right now you see this
4802s is um getting four point uh four percent
4804s increased damage per point of
4807s intelligence
4808s um the primer where you get intelligence
4809s is through your items uh there are seven
4812s passes in a few other ways but primarily
4814s it's through items
4815s um so this is the like direct item
4817s scaling power on Fireball for you so if
4820s that was instead maybe one percent more
4822s per point
4824s suddenly that's multiplicative with a
4826s lot of other things on items and you're
4829s seeing
4830s um
4831s intelligence as a multiplicative power
4833s increase on your on your damage on your
4835s skills
4836s um
4842s so that's a really long-winded way of
4844s saying we're probably going to fix this
4845s the problem you're describing a
4846s different way

4977s um two prefixes two suffixes we can pick
4979s exactly which ones go on there we can
4981s use glyphs to modify the craft that's
4984s going to give us this this extra suffix
4985s here which is physical resistance so
4987s it's going to just add Fizz res to this
4988s item this reduces the chance of us
4992s losing forging potential so I'm going to
4993s use summertime 1 and 18 Forge potential
4995s and it is weighted towards the one a
4997s little bit
4998s um not heavily but a little bit skewed
5000s that way just so you feel like you're
5002s lucky more than you're not
5004s um 30 remaining
5006s um and this has a chance to just not use
5008s any at all
5010s um so we're just gonna start doing this
5012s um so there we use uh the Hope preserved
5015s it so we didn't use anything
5016s uh goof up again we lost three
5020s um we got a critical success
5022s um so what that means is it it doesn't
5025s use any and then it also gave us a free
5027s level of something else which I think
5029s could give us a free level of Mana which
5031s is cool
5032s um that we use 20 we're down to seven
5035s uh try to finish this off uh we didn't
5037s make it it's fine T4 Mana oh good
5041s um so now that we have an exalted item
5043s here that's level up in size it can go
5045s we're gonna go take this to
5048s um the one of the dungeons that the
5050s reward lets us combine uh an exalted
5053s item and a unique item with legendary
5056s potential of the same base type so
5058s they're both body armors it's that that
5060s that line that's directly under the
5063s um

5066s uh let's direct the end of the name so
5068s woven Flush body armor that's what
5069s you're looking for and Mage body armor
5070s is fine
5073s um and it will take the num it'll take a
5075s number of affixes from the exalted item
5077s the purple and put it onto the unique
5079s the orange item so equal to the
5081s legendary potential so it's going to put
5082s take one random affix from this purple
5083s item and put it on this orange item
5085s which is why I leveled all them up as
5087s high as we can go because I don't know
5088s which one it's going to take I kind of
5089s hope it takes the Vitality but I'd be
5091s fine with all of those

5147s tree specifically and and intentionally
5150s make them work really well together
5152s um with the understanding that the only
5154s way to really make the build work is
5156s that you need to get those extra points
5157s in order to be able to spread out in the
5159s tree a little bit more
5161s um so while we don't explicitly directly
5163s do it super carefully closely like

6134s finds High legendary credential a lot

6189s goal is to have every single item be end

6195s of being in-game viable or uh or just
6198s useful at all
6200s because what you can kind of do is you
6201s can kind of look at a
6203s um a four LP
6206s leveling unique as
6209s um the implicit values the entire
6211s properties that unique as just the
6212s implicit values of some exalted item

6217s because if you slap an exalted I don't
6219s want it the whole exalted goes there
6221s I guess exalted and sealed affix slots

6230s sealed affixes cannot be pulled

6592s things too uh passives items uh so
6595s there's class specific affixes on uh
6598s like like your helmet chest and
6601s uh Relic as well and and there's
6604s um
6607s throwing related things yeah there's
6611s there's just keeping
6612s keeping things focused a little bit and
6615s and restricting the the number of
6616s options that there are lets us
6619s um put interesting decisions on each one
6622s of them if every class can basically do
6624s everything then there's and you're going
6626s through the tree
6629s so there was to say we worked throwing
6631s damage into this tree
6632s um in order to not have it be so huge
6635s that it's overwhelmingly large we ended
6637s up merging nodes so let's like let's say
6639s we took these nodes and we switched them
6641s together and we made like the fire nice
6643s nodes and then we put three nodes in the
6644s middle here in place and then we we took
6646s these two nodes we switched them
6647s together and put another one there you
6648s know like and we're like we're making
6649s room by just squishing things together
6651s um
6652s and and suddenly the tree because
6654s there's so many different themes in a
6655s tree it becomes okay just take all the
6657s throwing nodes take all the fire nodes
6659s take all the spell nodes like there's
6660s you just whatever you're doing just take
6662s all the nodes associated with that one
6663s thing but instead we want to create
6664s decisions so you're having to like say
6666s like oh I'm gonna take this or this like
6668s what's the what's the thing I want to
6670s take from my specific build and then
6671s like when you build that class
6672s differently maybe you're using some
6674s nodes from the last time you did it but
6675s you're you're switching up other nodes
6677s so that's it's like it's different each
6679s time and
6681s um having that having that variation and
6684s the decision making is is interesting
6685s and fun

6688s and when there's too many themes
6690s involved in a single passive tree uh
6692s those kind of vanish

7115s there's some languages that it's really
7116s uh it's a lot more work to translate
7118s into certain languages because there are
7120s different
7121s um character sets we've done a bunch of
7123s work with that already

7127s there are settings that you can turn on
7130s um different character sets for chat so
7132s it will um it'll you'll start to see
7134s um people talking with Cyrillic and
7136s people talking with Han I think is the
7138s proper name for that

7147s and uh yeah it's it's something we we
7150s want to do we want to expand upon I
7152s don't know the details on when it's
7153s gonna happen or what extent it's gonna

7157s know that it's that a lot of people
7158s don't speak English and a lot of people
7160s like playing games like this so I I mean

7165s the the really hard part is this like
7168s this needs to be really clear there's
7170s really specific wording and and things
7173s get lost in translation sometimes uh the
7175s difference between increased and more is
7177s a really integral part of
7180s um defining what this node does I just
7183s got lucky that I found a more damage
7184s done right off the bat but like uh
7186s little things like that have a huge
7188s impact and because the people who are
7190s making these trees don't necessarily
7191s speak those languages having it be uh
7194s accurate and precise is really difficult
7199s we are partnering with a company that is
7202s experienced in
7204s um specifically game development

7208s localization
7211s um so they're you know
7215s they're they're good at that stuff
7217s we do have a lot of multilingual people
7219s on staff um like we're very
7220s international team
7223s um and so there's there's like there are
7225s people that are able to help
7227s um make that those distinctions on staff
7229s already and and help improve the quality
