I burst out laughing when I saw that. Can't believe they actually embraced that meme.
Now we're getting another person who also claims to be from Ixtal. He's probably going be a con artist in leagues with Qiyana.
All /u/Reav3! He had the idea and wrote the jokes himself. Here are three more we didn't use since we didn't have space:
The Fiora and Shaco defamation case continues. You won’t believe these shocking clips from the trial.
High wind warning: Yasuo shares top tips to keep your belongings safe as you face the wind.
Wellness Watch: Nilah’s tips on staying positive, loving yourself, and dealing with your own demons.
I dont get the Fiora Shaco one. Is that supposed be a Johnny Depp reference?
I knew it!!
Seriously, y'all did a great job with this roadmap, I enjoyed watching it very much :)
None of this would be possible without the input from our devs! The folks who worked on this (Editorial content team + Player Community aka your friendly patch notes friends) all actively play League, but we can't do any of this without the support from the amazing dev team who are insane-o tryhards.
Hi! So the order for releases is
So at the time of writing this Darkin was before Ixtal, but that has changed a bit as Darkin needs a bit more time. This could always change again, but currently its KSante > ASol > Ahri > Ixtal > Darkin > ?
Also ? is going to be so sweet, can't wait to be able to talk about them
Riot finally listening to the community and adding a dedicated “harass” ping.
Haha. We filmed this a while ago, but harass ping only lasted a few days. As some noted, it was an iteration on the "poke" ping which was too niche, so we tried to make it more general with "harass", but it's still too niche so now it's gone
/u/Reav3 are you able to share those high res teaser pics, the Ixtal enchanter one is too adorable to not share
Why is Ahri's ASU coming out next year? At this speed, Zilean, Gragas, Cho'Gath, Jax, Shaco will not be getting a VGU/ASU before 2040.
I can't speak to the specifics of that team (since I'm not on it) but Ahri has SO many skins to go through. And they have to update everything. Model, animations, VFX, SFX, rigging, splash, etc.
And some stuff just can't be worked on in tandem because you need to see how everything plays together in-game. So even when all the stuff is done, you still need it all together to make sure it's not too distracting/busy on screen.
Does this mean that the regular pre-season videos will not include champs and SR gameplay? Or will they include updated versions?
These came a bit early and obviously missing Competitive for example.
We haven't quite figured out what our approach is for Season Start this year. But there will 100% be dev videos. Whether it's traditional "Champions", "Gameplay", and "Skins" is unknown. We're thinking about shaking things up and trying a different approach, but we WILL likely cover all of these things and more!
We want to highlight more devs and teams on League so they can talk about all of the work going on!
Hey Reav3 :)
I remember someone asking you, which other roles (than top lane tanks) are in need of a high-skill champion. You then mentioned that the enchanter support roster lacks more difficult champions.
So I was wondering: Is the male Ixtali enchanter meant to be a high-skill support champion? That would be really cool!
No, he is not. We wouldn't want to release 2 very high skill champs so close together as that audience is a little more niche. Also we don't want our first male enchanter to be unplayable by a lot of players
And they have to update everything. Model, animations, VFX, SFX, rigging, splash,
Even the Splash-Arts? Wow I had no idea ASU's were going to be THIS extensive, though I'm glad for it! I can see now why it's taking a bit.
I am 99% sure that Caitlyn had some splash updates with her ASU!
"So the goal of mid-scope updates isn't to reimagine a champion's visuals, theme, or gameplay... Instead, we want to freshen up champions that aren't living up to the expectations of the players who love them. We try to strengthen their fantasy even more, rather than reinvent it... We saw really great responses to these projects, as well as healthy play rate spikes after their release. Given all of this, we want to keep pursuing mid-scope updates and we already have a few champions we're exploring..."
omg. omg. omg. It's happening, finally-
"...including Neeko and Syndra"
Oh. Come ON! Rell, is RIGHT THERE. You know, the girl that was advertised as the champion who would wield her enemy's armor and magic resistance as WEAPONS to crush them but ended up becoming a more clunky, punishing, different flavor of Leona that nobody wants to play even in the times when tanky engage supports were meta + she had a strong winrate?
The one who rides a horse of metal CONTROLLED BY HER MIND yet moves at the same speed as everyone else (until she uses her abilities which inextricably make her crawl around at a snails pace). That champion that takes 200 years to clear a simple ward?
Rell is 100% on our midscope list. Its more a question of when then if
u/Reav3 loving everything you do, however why is there not justification why the Ahri ASU is taking so long when she was announced in the beginning of the year? With so many champions isn’t only 1 ASU and 1 VGU every one and a half to two years too slow?
One thing I think people don't fully understand about ASUs and VGUs is that we also have to rebuild ALL of their skins from scratch. Some champions have multiple Legendaries (Which take even longer and have a lot of unique animations) or even maybe a Ultimate skin like Udyr. Ahri has a MASSIVE amount of skins. They all need new models, vfx, and in some cases splash art as well. A New Champion, by contrast, only has a launch skin, so they take SIGNIFICANTLY less time then a ASU or VGU. VGUs in the past were done on champs with a lot less skins, many of which didn't even have legendary skins, so they were a lot faster to make.
I know a lot of people think, well Riot is a big successful company, so they can just hire massive teams and do them faster. But even though LoL and Riot have been successful we still don't think the correct way to make high quality products is to just throw a ton of bodies at it. We still largely work in small autonomous teams, were the teams can communicate with each other a lot and build healthy relationships. It does mean sometimes things feel like they take a while, but we also hope that people see the love put into the the projects when they release (I say hope, because even when we put a lot into the things we do they don't always come out perfect.) Lord knows I can think of multiple things I could have done better on almost every project I have worked on
/u/Reav3 I am incredibly excited for K'Sante. One comment mentioned how they speculate he'll draw inspiration from mali prince Sundiata who was called the lion king. Can you comment if the team is going for that sort of west african inspiration for K'Sante?
I'm not sure if the team took specific inspiration from prince Sundiata or not, but Nazumah and K'Sante take inspiration from West African Culture
Hey Reav3, could you potentially share what kind of weapons were used as inspiration for K'Sante's weapons? The name given seems to be a new one with no real world counterpart so I am having trouble imagining what they could look like and what that would mean for him. If that's something that we will just have to wait and see for that's cool too.
You are just going to have to wait and see!
Hey Reav3, i wanted to ask you about Aurelion Sol - What are you looking for him to be?
I really, really prefer the battlemage version of him, but either way, it'd be nice to know what kind of champion at least Riot looks for him (and anyone else) to be. I understand that you are trying things out, but what is the more specific direction?
Because i've seen his playerbase split into Battlemage/Roamer (with anecdotal evidence more preferring the former), and i am not really sure with this presentation what he is intended to be.
The new Asol will be much more of a battle mage though he will have some roaming potential
Hey u/Reav3, hope everything is fine there! I came here to thank you guys in advance. It's probably going to be a non-white champion and I'm really happy to see that. As a person of color who grew up with virtually zero media representation, I insist on buying this new tank within the first week and mastering it ASAP.
I am very happy to see more diversity within this game that has helped me in such difficult times. Thanks! 💙
Thx! Better diversity and representation has been a big goal of champions team for the last few years now so it’s always great to hear from players when it matters to them
/u/Reav3 I don't want to rush to conclusions ... but.. aurelion sol have in the kit only skills that characterize his being a dragon (which is cool but he is not only a dragon), the idea of letting him scale in late (maybe for his passive) as a feature of being a divinity, besically, AND just a black hole on the ground as a feature of his being the creator of the universe.... Meh... Even if we don't know 1 skill, the kit synergies only with q w, and it's actually horrible as a thing. Standing still for do a rumble q... U can do better no? Should I expect something cool? I really love ASOL, and i love what u do. i don't lose hope. Your recent reworks are so good... Pls don't rush my ASOL, take your time. Please
I was intentionally showing dragon themed stuff in this video. His ult is very Star forger themed
Is that the ability we were shown earlier, or a different one? Also could you tell us if he is going to be a battle mage more like Anivia and Cassiopeia, or more like Swain and Vladimir? I.e. more of a late game DPS mage or a late game drain tank?
Late game DPS. His late game is pretty insane tbh
Hey Reav3 we were told to ask you about the Udyr color story. What happened with that? Please tell me he isn't gonna be stuck with his outdated old one that still features a tiger.
We are currently discussing how we want to do short stories going forward, and how they play into our greater story arcs, especially now that we have more teams the just LoL working in Runeterra's narrative. In the meantime we included all his relevant lore is his bio
