All of them being grey and only discernible by a # makes keeping track of who is saying what much harder when trying to plan what you’re doing as a team. Can each role get their own color in addition to being a different number? Something like top grey, jungle green, mid blue, red bot, yellow support so that it’s much easier to distinguish who is saying what at just a glance.
In terms of visual clarity, having all names in champ select be Ally # in grey ain’t it chief.

Considered that, but when folks end up swapping roles through agreement in chat it could very quickly become confusing.
does this happen so often that the downside weighs so much that it's not worth the advantages it would bring?
For accomplishing the goal of "Players in the lobby can more clearly distinguish who's talking" there are executions that don't have downsides like this one. Like I mentioned elsewhere in this thread we're changing the names for 12.23!
