I want to address directly the fact that many players do in fact actually enjoy Swiftplay thoroughly, and discussions around this mode should really keep that in mind.

For me, as a chronic norms draft player and almost only that the last year or so, when I get home from a long work day, finish up making dinner, housekeeping, or whatever else I had to do, I just want to hop into a game of league and unwind. League doesn't have to be an ultra-competitive, ultra-optimized game. League can just be a video game, something to have fun with, and I think much of the regular posting here does not consider that fact.

I had tried wildrift but league on phones just isn't good if you're used to it on a PC. Not for me. Plus, phones are horrific insofar as their ergonomics are the equivalent of holding a weird brick with the palm of your hand. When the rework from blind to Quickplay came, I was optimistic. The thought of being guaranteed your pick(s) was the most alluring. However, this mode didn't hit the mark for me. While it was still a step up from blind for casual experience, it was still league but with far worse bounds on matchmaking because it couldn't garner an audience. Why bother to play this when it offered little over the regular normal draft game? Then Swiftplay was announced, and holy sh*t, what a feat! Farming still matters... but less! A lost lane doesn't mean sign you up to be a drag for upwards of 30 minutes for 4 other players. People just don't care as much! We finally have a mode to screw around with builds/champs/roles that'll you can actually hit since its so forgiving. Its FUN!!

Swiftplay has completely scratched that casual league itch for me. So why bother to write this post? I've read several post over the last weeks where someone has something negative to say about swiftplay, criticizing it when its not so swift. Fair. The sudden death changes seemed to be a little heavy handed but it looks like they'll be tuning this a bit more. What really grinds my gears is when I see people say "this mode has no point to exist" or "this mode is setting league back" or "this mode is training wheels for bad players." It can be demoralizing to read too many of these post because it degrades actual critical conversations that are posted by true Swiftplay gamers or Swiftplay curious.... or even new players!

To these permanently challenger individuals who dominate the highest echelons of League's ladder, I would like for you to think of the every man who gets home from work and wants to screw around on summoners rift without the pressure. This mode is for them.

Thanks.
