We've penciled it in for start of 2028

/u/RiotMeddler you mentioned you'd be able to share more about champion bio updates in this dev update. Is Xin Zhao going to be part of it, now that we will be following his journey this season, and any updates on Camille/Seraphine and other champs?

Alsowould you have any thoughts on Shyvana now that work has picked back up on her again, it'd be great to have a kick off dev blog

Camille bio - has been completed, picking a release date at present (as in, was under discussion yesterday)

Seraphine - almost updated, about to pick a release date (might bundle with Camille, TBD)

Xin - You'll see some more of Xin this season. I expect we'll update his bio at some point but that's not where we want to be primarily driving storytelling if it's possible to use other mediums or tools

Shyv - nothing to share at present

Remember when they stopped doing the winter wonderland map because it was too much work with the new dragons? Pls bring it back

As part of developing these map variants for SR, plus other stuff like Arena and Bridge of Progress ARAM, we have improved our internal art tools for making maps. No promises, but that would make it easier to do things like larger map visual changes at some point in the future

Ah yes, the yearly "inting/griefing" new detection system, just for nothing to happen, because AI cannot realistically determine if someone is soft inting or griefing.

Can understand the skepticism, we'll talk more about this one in a future update once we can share some data and specifics on what we're seeing + pick your brains on whether you're feeling any changes in game or not

Could you share with us how many new champions will be added this year? Only 1 left ?

We're doing one new champion per season. So Yunara will come out sometime in season 2 of the year, then another new champ sometime in season 3.

Mr meddler, will we see more about the darkin weapon in season 2 in terms of story, I'm not sure what is Canon and what not but I'm still hoping we will see the new darkin in season 3 ;_;

Season 2 will have some direct continuity with Season 1 in some places, plus some separate themes as well. I want to be vague as to what and where to not undercut the planned ways that stuff will get experienced/revealed. I know a lot of people will look at Spirit Blossom and assume this is a less canon season than they'd expected, there's a lot of canon Runeterra stuff going on and Spirit Blossom itself is a core part of Runeterra, even if the skins within it are then interpretations of the spirit concepts onto existing champions.

Why wait? Still 8 more months of 2025 to sneak it thru

are we getting lore of any other ionian champions this season, or is it just Xin and spirit blossom focused

It's not just Xin and Spirit Blossom. We're also very trying to focus on a limited cast of champs with this seasonal storytelling right now though. We can't do justice to every champion in a faction at once (hell, Arcane with 2 full tv seasons still needed to focus on a subset of the Piltover and Zaun champs). We think it's better to get a bit more depth/context per champ we do cover than go super broad but really shallow.

u/RiotMeddler Hi there, you guys may or may not have considered this already but I hope players who opt out of chat to avoid toxicity while keeping good behavior are taken into account with the changes to Honor.

The team better than anyone is aware toxicity is impossible to fully get rid of despite all efforts. It's a tad unfair to be punished and kept from progressing honor for choosing not to engage with or see toxic behavior while trying to play to the best of one's ability.

something that's on our radar, in particular making it more clear what things contribute to honor and tuning those ratios appropriately

i understand you don't want to be primarily driving storytelling through bios, but isn't it a problem if someone goes to a character's bio page and the information there is incredibly outdated?

Yeah, that's a problem and we know we have a number of champs where that is the case (and has been for a while for some).

Not wanting to do storytelling through bios for me at least is more about not wanting to debut major new info or character arcs there. So good/great to reflect them there, but ideally we're debuting stuff in ways that connect with a broader audience and take advantage of other mediums or capabilities

Could I ask for your thoughts on a retro for season 1 or is that still too soon? Are you guys happy with how storytelling so far

We can share some reflections at some point for sure. I'd like to give it a bit more time though, given I expect some things will be clearer once they settle a bit more and players see where there is and isn't connectivity with future seasons

Could you tell us Yunara's role? I heard she is a support?

She's not a support

Kill streak SFX is SUCH a fire addition that I didn’t know I needed until now. Just throw in the Halo kill streak announcer’s voice clips and I’ll be happy

The amount of those Halo streak voice lines that have been spoken during this development is quite high

So glad they're adding the ability to swap roles now though, a good change given the above changes.

Also RIP grey-screen memes with the new spectator UI. Hopefully this means we can permanently disable the eternals popup again lol.

The eternals popup is removed, and the death screen is still a tint of grey.

u/RiotMeddler Spirit Blossom Ashe will be legendary or exalted? bc on PBE she has the exalted icon... I was SUPER happy with her, I was saying to everyone on my page and stream that you guys rocked with this legendary skin, but is she an exalted skin? or was exalted and became legendary?

It’s a legendary skin, icon is wrong

I'm late to the party but questions:

1 is atakhan sticking around the whole year?

2 you said before we would see classic sr again this year, i assume that's still happening a bit later?

3 which of the three season is your personal fav?

1 - yes, at a minimum Atakhan should be around for the rest of the year at least. If we did want to remove him entirely at some point would want to do so at the start of a year if possible given removing an epic objective entirely is pretty significant adjustment to make during the year from a competitive impact perspective

2 - yes, still planning some standard SR visuals at some point during the year

3 - I’m pretty torn. Maybe season 3 for certain elements in particular but there are aspects of each I really like in different ways

appreciate the answer, thanks! one last question, will the last champ of he year be like yunara and come during or in the middle of the season or will they be like mel and come relatively at the start? otherwise, i look forward to the reveals and stuff in the spirit blossom season

More like the middle of the third season than the start
