EDIT: Official updates have come out since this post was first written. Check out the following if you haven't already:
Hi there, Keeper here. We just got a bunch of information about what's going to be coming soon and I wanted to break most of it down here for you. Let's get into it!
Announcement Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C7oZiGoRvs
Release Date and Platforms
Legends of Runeterra will be returning on January 24, 2020 for an OPEN BETA, not a Closed Beta as was previously announced.
Anyone that was given access to a previous preview event will be able to play one day early on January 23, 2020. You can still register now on PlayRuneterra.com to get access a day early and get an exclusive Guardian.
Patch notes for the Open Beta will be coming on January 22.
The full release on both PC and Mobile is coming "In the first half of 2020." Not very specific.
The Open Beta is still PC exclusive.
There will be no more progression resets from this point on when the Open Beta starts.
We did not hear any news on how global regions will work in LoR.
Ranked Mode
Ranked mode is coming in the Open Beta.
Ranked will feature "some similarities to League of Legends" with an LP system and ranked divisions going from Iron to Master.
Once you hit a "tier" in Ranked, you will not be able to demote down from that rank over the course of the season. This means if you get Diamond, you can never demote down to Platinum, but you could still go from Diamond I to Diamond II for example.
There's a heavy emphasis placed on keeping the meta diverse, frequently updating things, and making sure people don't feel forced into only playing S-tier decks on the ranked ladder.
Friends List
The Open Beta will contain a "Social Panel" and a "Challenge a Friend" feature. Here's another picture of the Social Panel.
All of your existing League of Legends friends will automatically show up in the Social Panel and you'll be able to see what Riot game they're currently in, even if it's not LoR.
More features are coming down the line to encourage playing with friends, but no more details were given.
Cosmetics Shown
It was emphasized that they want to make the game as accessible as possible when it comes to earning cards and focus on selling great cosmetics instead of focusing on selling cards. They want to create a game where, "...how much you spend does not determine how much you win."
Mentioned they're going to be "doubling down" on cosmetic features offered.
New Game Boards are coming, one for each region: Demacia & Noxus, Ionia & Freljord, and Piltover/Zaun & Shadow Isles
Game boards will feature new music and other unique features.
New emotes are coming but none were shown.
No information was given on pricing or if these can also be earned without spending money.
Expansion Information
Multiple sets are coming over the next 12 months with each introducing a new Region.
Each expansion will also bring new Champions for all previous Regions along with new gameplay mechanics.
It was not clarified whether new expansions will bring cards besides champions to old Regions.
Card Balance Changes Shown
Anivia has been changed a lot. 7 mana, can block, and levels up when Enlightened.
Pack Mentality was changed to +2/+2 from +3/+3 but now targets all friendly minions.
Catalyst of Aeons is now 5 mana, up from 4.
Cloud Drinker is now a 3/5 down from a 3/7. Mana cost unknown.
